# Worklog — AVA (Advanced Visualization Agent)
Project: Audio-reactive visualization agent (AVS-style scripting, 3-band spectrum detection,
predictive beat tracking). Built as a Next.js 16 web app (reference implementation) plus a
Rust/Vulkan scaffold for the future native cross-platform export.
User requirements:
- 3-band detection: Bass 20–100 Hz, Mid 700 Hz–2 kHz, High 7 kHz–16 kHz (user-adjustable)
- Beat detection from bass + beat PREDICTION (keeps beat when bass drops out)
- Green dot beat indicator + "Set Beat" tap-tempo button
- AVS-style custom visualization script editor: edit, save as default, save to file, load from file
- Help section with variables/functions reference
- 5 preset scripts (user provided real Winamp AVS presets on Google Drive)
- Rust + Vulkan target for Linux/Windows/macOS export (scaffold + blueprint delivered here)

Task ID: 1
Agent: main (Z.ai Code)
Task: Project inspection + Google Drive preset retrieval
Work Log:
- Verified dev server running on port 3000 (Next.js 16.1.3, dev.log clean)
- Fetched Google Drive folder (public) — extracted 5 file IDs and downloaded all files:
- "Synth-C - Gap The Mind.avs" (12.5 KB)
- "zamuz - wonder 'bout.avs" (34 KB)
- "Synth-C - Quantization.avs" (14.8 KB)
- "zamuz - keep tryin'.avs" (19 KB)
- "zamuz - vorticity (brain activity remix).avs" (17 KB)
- Parsed binary AVS format (null-terminated strings): extracted Superscope code, Texer II
configs, movement expressions. These are scene classics from visbot.net.
- Decided engine design: AVS-eel-flavored expression language (if/above/below/equal/rand,
getspec/getosc-equivalents sv/v, reg-free flat variables) so the presets port naturally.
Stage Summary:
- All 5 original presets secured and understood; will be adapted to the AVA script dialect
(originals preserved as downloadable files in public/avs-originals/).
- Core engine architecture defined: expression compiler, script parser, BeatTracker (PLL-style
predictor + tap tempo), AudioEngine (WebAudio FFT, mic/file/demo synth), canvas renderer.

Task ID: 2
Agent: main (Z.ai Code)
Task: Project setup — deps, Prisma schema, DB, original preset files
Work Log:
- Installed jszip (for the Rust scaffold zip download API)
- Prisma schema rewritten: `Preset` (name/author/description/content/isBuiltIn, unique name)
and `Settings` (defaultScript + bandConfig + beatConfig JSON) — ran `bun run db:push` OK
- Copied the 5 original Winamp .avs binaries to public/avs-originals/ (downloadable from UI)
Stage Summary:
- DB ready; jszip available; originals served at /avs-originals/*.avs

Task ID: 3
Agent: main (Z.ai Code)
Task: AVA core engine libraries (src/lib/ava/*)
Work Log:
- types.ts — BandConfig / BeatConfig / BandLevels / BeatFrame + defaults
(bass 20–100 Hz, mid 700–2000 Hz, high 7000–16000 Hz as requested)
- expression.ts — full expression compiler: tokenizer → recursive-descent parser → closure
tree. AVS-eel flavored: if() is LAZY, && / || short-circuit, ternary, ^ power (right-assoc),
assignment valid inside call args + ternary branches (if(cond, x=1, x=2) works),
newline & ';' statement separators (newlines inside parens ignored), '#'/'//' comments,
deterministic hash rand(seed). 30+ functions incl. above/below/equal/band/bor/bnot/frac.
- script.ts — text format parser: header keys (name/author/description/mode/blend/persist/
linewidth) + [init]/[frame]/[beat]/[point] sections, error objects with section+line,
validateScript() never throws.
- beat.ts — BeatTracker: rolling-average energy detection w/ threshold+minInterval+floor,
interval learning (median + EMA period lock, spread gating), PLL-style phase predictor that
keeps firing beats when bass drops (confidence-gated, slowly decays), tap() tempo learning.
- audio.ts — AudioEngine: WebAudio AnalyserNode FFT 8192 (~5.4 Hz bins), byte-spectrum band
averaging with attack 35ms / release 220ms smoothing; sources: demo (synthesized techno:
kick 160→43Hz sweep, snare bandpass 1.8k, hats HP 8.2k, saw bassline — audible + analyzable),
mic (never routed to speakers), file (loops, audible). getWave/getSpectrum for scripts.
- presets.ts — 5 built-in presets ADAPTED from the user's real AVS files:
Gap The Mind (radial warp rings), wonder 'bout (bass-spawned expanding rings),
Quantization (grid-snapped dot rings), keep tryin' (bass burst dots + swirl),
vorticity (twisting spiral arms) + STARTER_TEMPLATE.
- engine.ts — AvaEngine: rAF loop (bands → beat → env → frame/beat progs → point prog ×N →
draw), canvas 2d renderer with additive blending, per-point color, 2-pass glow,
persistence trails, lines/dots/solid modes, DPR-aware resize via ResizeObserver,
throttled stats callback for the UI. Singleton via getEngine().
- SMOKE TESTED via bun script: all 5 presets parse & execute 120 frames; lazy-if/ternary/pow
OK; beat sim locks 124.1 BPM from 124 BPM kick train; predictor sustains beats through 10s
of silence; tap tempo locks 120 BPM from 500ms taps. (2 parser bugs found & fixed: assignment
inside call args; newline statement separators with paren-awareness.)
Stage Summary:
- Core engine complete and verified. Env variables exposed to scripts: n, t, time, dt, frame,
bass/mid/treb (+ _att), vol (+ _att), beat, bpm, beatphase, beatconf, beats, w, h, aspect,
persist, i, v, sv, x, y, red, green, blue, skip, size, alpha.

Task: API routes
Work Log:
- GET/POST /api/presets — GET seeds built-ins on first run and lists all; POST upserts user
presets by name (built-ins protected, 409 on name clash with built-in)
- PUT/DELETE /api/presets/[id] — user presets only
- GET/PUT /api/settings — defaultScript + bandConfig + beatConfig (upsert, JSON strings in DB)
- Created src/lib/ava/blueprint.ts STUB (interface Blueprint + placeholder) for Task 3-b
Stage Summary:
- Backend complete. Frontend contract: GET /api/presets → { presets: [...] };
POST /api/presets {name, content, author?, description?} → {preset};
GET /api/settings → { defaultScript, bandConfig, beatConfig };
PUT /api/settings { defaultScript? , bandConfig?, beatConfig? }.

Task ID: 3-a
Agent: full-stack-developer (UI)
Task: Complete UI for AVA — single-page app (dark club/VJ aesthetic) with header
(audio source controls, BPM readout, green beat dot + Set Beat pairing), visual
stage (canvas + engine loop), 5-tab control panel (Presets / Script / Detect /
Beat / Native) and sticky footer status bar.
Work Log:
- Read worklog + all engine APIs (types/engine/script/presets/blueprint/audio/beat)
and the existing API routes before writing any code.
- src/lib/store.ts — zustand store: throttled stats (AvaStats = EngineStats +
beatCount), beatFlash pulses, bandConfig/beatConfig mirrors that write the
engine live + persist (localStorage instant, PUT /api/settings debounced 600 ms
with shape guards), preset list + refreshPresets(), script text, active tab.
- src/components/ava/audio-source.ts — tapBeat() (engine.beat.tap + dot flash +
lastTap), applyScriptText() (validate → setScript, engine.setScript), and
useAudioSource() hook wrapping startDemo/startMic/startFile/stop with error
mapping (mic permission / no device / decode failure → destructive toast) and
store sync from engine.audio.kind (authoritative).
- src/components/ava/beat-dot.tsx — the green indicator: SVG phase ring
(stroke-dashoffset follows beat.phase, 150 ms linear transition), emerald dot
that scales 1.9× + glows 180 ms on audio/tap beats, and for predicted beats an
expanding outline ring (framer-motion, 450 ms) + "PRED" badge. Flash state is
derived (seq vs clearedSeq) — no setState-in-effect.
- src/app/page.tsx — useInitialLoad (presets + settings; server → localStorage →
first preset → STARTER_TEMPLATE fallback chain; applies configs + script),
useBeatWatcher (see decisions below), useSpaceToTap (Space outside
inputs/textarea/select/button → tap, preventDefault). Root layout:
min-h-screen flex-col, lg:h-screen with internal panel scroll (footer always
at viewport bottom; mobile pushes footer naturally).
- src/components/ava/header.tsx — sticky, backdrop-blur; emerald logo square +
AVA title + subtitle (hidden on mobile); segmented Demo/Mic/File/Stop control
(44 px targets, active state emerald, hidden file input); demo BPM slider
(60–200, only while demo active); right cluster = BPM readout (mono, emerald,
'—' when unknown) + BeatDot + Set Beat button, always visible, wraps to row 1
on mobile (source controls wrap to row 2).
- src/components/ava/visual-stage.tsx — owns engine lifecycle (engine.start/
stop + onStats → store), idle glass overlay with 3 big source buttons
(AnimatePresence fade), top-left FPS/PTS readout (pointer-events-none), top-
right fullscreen toggle (requestFullscreen on container). Canvas absolute
fill; engine's ResizeObserver handles DPR.
- src/components/ava/presets-tab.tsx — preset cards (name/author/description
line-clamp-3, mode + built-in/custom badges), Load (applies + toasts, jumps
to Script tab on compile error), ".avs original" download link for built-ins
via originalFileUrl(name), two-step Delete (3 s confirm timeout) for customs,
"New Script" (STARTER_TEMPLATE + switch tab), save-as-preset section (POST,
409 handled, refresh + toast). List: max-h-96 + thin styled scrollbar.
- src/components/ava/script-tab.tsx — toolbar (Apply ▶ / Save as Default 💾 /
Save to File ⬇ Blob download <meta.name>.ava / Load from File 📂 (.ava,.avs,
.txt, auto-applies when valid) / New / Help ?), gutter+textarea editor
(synced scroll, Tab → 2 spaces, min-h-320, wrap=off), rose gutter line on the
error line, live debounced validation (250 ms), status line "✔ Compiled OK —
mode: lines, n=480" (n from running [init] on a scratch env) / compile error
/ stats.error runtime errors.
- src/components/ava/help-panel.tsx — Quick Start, full variables table (frame
+ point-only), functions table, operators, 5 example formulas, .ava file
format doc.
- src/components/ava/detect-tab.tsx — Bass/Mid/High cards: Low/High Hz sliders
(bass 10–300/20–500, mid 100–5000/300–8000, high 1000–12000/4000–20000; low <
high enforced with min gaps 10/50/200 in the store), Gain 0.1–4, mono Hz
readouts, live VU meters (instant fill emerald/amber/rose + _att peak-hold
tick), per-band reset.
- src/components/ava/beat-tab.tsx — 80 px BeatDot + source badge (AUDIO/PRED/
TAP), big BPM readout, large SET BEAT button (framer-motion whileTap), tap
feedback ("Tap 3… keep tapping" → "Locked: 128.0 BPM"), confidence bar, beat
count, sensitivity (threshold 1.1–2.5, "lower = more sensitive"), min
interval 150–600 ms, prediction switch ("Keeps the beat alive when the bass
drops out"), how-it-works explainer.
- src/components/ava/native-tab.tsx — renders BLUEPRINT (title/intro/sections/
bullets/code blocks in scrollable pre), emerald "Download Rust Scaffold
(.zip)" <a href="/api/rust-scaffold" download>, identical-language note.
- src/components/ava/footer-bar.tsx — sticky mt-auto status bar: SRC/FPS/PTS/
BPM/SCRIPT micro-stats (mono), green "engine ok" / pulsing red "script error".
- src/app/layout.tsx — dark class on <html>, title "AVA — Advanced
Visualization Agent", body bg-zinc-950.
- FIXED BUGS during browser testing: (1) Detect tab crashed — levels key for
the high band is `treb` not `high` (added levelKey/attKey mapping to BandSpec);
(2) lint: setState-in-effect in BeatDot (derived flash state instead);
(3) lint: // text node in help panel.
- Tuned src/hooks/use-toast.ts: TOAST_LIMIT 1→3, TOAST_REMOVE_DELAY 100 s→5 s
(lingering toasts were covering header/panel buttons during testing).
- VERIFIED in headless browser: initial load seeds presets + applies Gap The
Mind (480 pts @60 fps); demo start/stop + DEMO slider; beat dot flashing live
(scale 1↔1.9); tap tempo lock ("Locked: 119.9 BPM" from 4×500 ms taps, Space
key too); after Stop the PRED badge/outline ring shows prediction carrying
the beat; preset load/save/delete (two-step) round-trip via API; Save as
Default → PUT /api/settings + localStorage; band slider → debounced PUT;
.avs originals serve 200; script upload (auto-apply, n=300) + export to
Upload Test.ava; mic error toast ("No microphone found" in this headless
env); no blue/indigo anywhere; lint clean; tsc clean for owned files.
Stage Summary:
- Files created: src/lib/store.ts; src/components/ava/{shared.ts, audio-source.ts,
beat-dot.tsx, header.tsx, visual-stage.tsx, presets-tab.tsx, script-tab.tsx,
help-panel.tsx, detect-tab.tsx, beat-tab.tsx, native-tab.tsx, footer-bar.tsx,
control-panel.tsx}. Modified: src/app/page.tsx (replaced), src/app/layout.tsx,
src/hooks/use-toast.ts (toast duration/limit only).
- KEY DECISION — beat flash sampling: engine stats are throttled (~8 Hz) but
beat=true lasts one frame, so most beats are invisible in stats. The watcher
in page.tsx ALSO fires on beat.phase running backwards (real beats reset
phase to 0; the predictor grid wraps at 1). Classification: stats.beat.beat
sampled → exact source; phase drop + prediction on + confidence > 0.35 +
bassAtt < 0.06 → 'predicted'; phase drop + bassAtt > 0.05 → 'audio'; silent
no-lock → no flash (idle dot doesn't pulse). Tap flashes suppressed for
300 ms to avoid double pulses. Verified working in-browser.
- KEY DECISION — desktop uses lg:h-screen + internal panel scroll so the footer
stays at the viewport bottom and the canvas fills the height; mobile uses
natural flow (min-h-screen + mt-auto footer) so the footer is pushed down.
- Store is the only place configs touch the engine (applyBandConfig/
setBandValue etc.), keeping live-update + persistence consistent everywhere.
- NOTE for Task 5 (integration): /api/rust-scaffold is linked from the Native
tab but the route does not exist yet (Task 3-b owns it — expect 404 until
then). BLUEPRINT is still the stub; the Native tab renders whatever 3-b puts
in it, no UI changes needed. Settings row 'main' currently holds
defaultScript="Gap The Mind" + default bandConfig from testing (both equal
defaults — safe to leave or clear). Pre-existing tsc errors in
src/lib/ava/{audio,script}.ts and examples/ are NOT from this task
(ignoreBuildErrors is set).

Agent: general-purpose (Rust scaffold + blueprint) — [timed out at the very end;
deliverables verified complete by the main agent, which appends this entry]
Task: Rust/Vulkan native-export scaffold + architecture blueprint + zip download API
Work Log:
- Built rust-agent/ cargo crate (ava-agent, edition 2021): winit 0.30 (ApplicationHandler
API), wgpu 22 (Vulkan-first; `vulkan-force` feature for MoltenVK on macOS), cpal 0.15,
rustfft 6.2, pollster, anyhow
- src/audio.rs — cpal default-input capture, ring buffer, AudioProcessor::poll() per frame
- src/spectrum.rs — Hann-window 8192 FFT, band levels w/ same attack(35ms)/release(220ms)
smoothing as the web engine
- src/beat.rs — 1:1 port of beat.ts (same constants, median+EMA lock, PLL predictor, taps)
- src/script/{lexer,parser,env,mod}.rs — expression engine + .ava format parser with the
same lazy-if / assignment-in-args / deterministic-rand semantics
- src/engine.rs — script runtime host (init/frame/beat/point stepping, shared state)
- src/render/{mod.rs,shader.wgsl} — wgpu pipelines: audio-reactive fullscreen background +
additive point cloud, #[repr(C)] uniforms, persistence via TODO'd feedback texture
- presets/*.ava — all six scripts (5 classics + starter) portable across engines
- Rewrote src/lib/ava/blueprint.ts with 8 real sections (architecture map, wgpu/Vulkan
strategy, audio pipeline, beat engine, script engine, rendering, per-platform builds,
roadmap)
- Built src/app/api/rust-scaffold/route.ts (jszip walk, skip target/.git/node_modules)
Stage Summary:
- Scaffold ~1,700 lines, all files present; zip route verified 200 in dev.log; lint clean.
- NOT compiled (no cargo in sandbox) — scaffold quality, clearly TODO-marked where partial.

Task ID: 5
Agent: main (Z.ai Code)
Task: Integration, lint, agent-browser E2E verification & fixes
Work Log:
- bun run lint → zero errors across the whole project
- dev.log clean: / 200, /api/presets 200, /api/settings 200, /api/rust-scaffold 200,
no runtime errors, no hydration warnings
- Agent-browser E2E golden path, all VERIFIED:
* initial load: idle overlay, 5 preset cards + .avs original links, tabs render
* Demo Track → canvas lit (30.7% pixels @60fps, 480 pts), footer SRC/FPS/PTS/BPM live
* footer shows detected 120.0 BPM from the demo kick pattern
* Set Beat ×4 taps → "Locked: 99.8 BPM" (matches real ~600ms tap intervals), confidence 65%
* Beat tab: AUDIO badge, beat count, sensitivity ×1.40, min interval 250ms, prediction switch
* Stop audio → badge switches to PRED, beat count 20→35 (predictor keeps the beat),
confidence decays 65%→35% — core requirement verified
* Script editor: broken script → "✘ [point] line 8: Unknown function 'badfunc'";
fixed script → "✔ Compiled OK — mode: lines, n=300"
* Help panel: variables table, functions, operators, examples
* Save as preset → "Smoke Test Ring" listed + toast; two-step delete verified
* Save as Default → PUT /api/settings verified via curl; reload auto-loads the default
* Detect tab: Bass 20–100 Hz / Mid 700–2000 Hz / High 7k–16 kHz cards, gains, live
meters reading real audio (0.78/0.60/0.32)
* Native tab: blueprint sections render + zip download (116 KB, 25 files, valid zip)
* Mobile 390×844: responsive, footer pushed naturally, sticks to viewport bottom when scrolled
- Cleanup: deleted the test preset, cleared test defaultScript (DB + localStorage) so a
fresh visit loads "Gap The Mind"
Stage Summary:
- ALL acceptance criteria verified in-browser. Zero console errors. The application is
fully interactive: 3-band detection, beat detection + prediction + tap learning, AVS-style
scripting with editor/help/save/load, 5 authentic presets (adapted), Rust scaffold export.

Task ID: 6
Agent: general-purpose
Task: "Stream a link" backend — yt-dlp link resolution + same-origin audio byte proxy (POST /api/resolve, GET /api/audio/stream)
Work Log:
- Read worklog (Tasks 1–5) and existing routes; confirmed dev server already running on :3000
(Node, next-server v16.1.3) — never restarted it; no build, no new deps, no git
- Installed yt-dlp standalone binary: bin/yt-dlp (GitHub latest yt-dlp_linux), chmod +x,
--version prints 2026.10.21
- src/lib/server/ssrf.ts — assertPublicHttpUrl(raw): http(s) only, explicit port must be 80/443,
localhost/.localhost/.local/.internal banned, IPv4 privates (0/8, 10/8, 100.64/10, 127/8,
169.254/16, 172.16/12, 192.168/16), IPv6 ::/::1/fc00::/7/fe80::/10 plus IPv4-mapped
::ffff:a.b.c.d (embedded v4 checked; hand-written IPv6 expander handles v4 tails + zone ids),
then dns.promises.lookup(all:true) with EVERY result re-checked by the same rules (kills
nip.io / DNS-rebind tricks). Throws user-safe messages; returns the parsed URL.
- src/lib/server/stream-store.ts — Map on globalThis.__avaStreams via a typed interface with an
optional property + `??=` (no `any`): token = randomBytes(16).hex (32 chars), entries
{ remoteUrl, title, source, expires }, 30-min sliding TTL, prune-on-every-access; exports
createStreamEntry / getStreamEntry / refreshStreamEntry.
- src/app/api/resolve/route.ts — JSON body { url } (≤2048, trim) → 400s; SSRF gate → 400;
10-min success cache on globalThis.__avaResolveCache (repeat links replay instantly);
direct-audio bypass for .mp3 .m4a .aac .ogg .oga .opus .wav .flac .mp4 .webm (source "direct",
title = decoded last path segment, fallback hostname); otherwise yt-dlp
-J --no-warnings --no-playlist --no-progress --socket-timeout 15
-f "bestaudio[protocol^=http]/bestaudio/best" with a 30 s kill → 504; non-zero exit →
ANSI/control-stripped stderr tail (300 chars) → 422 ("Unsupported URL" gets its own message);
stream URL pick = data.url ?? requested_formats[0].url ?? last http-protocol format;
.m3u8/.mpd path or m3u8/mpd/dash protocol → 422 adaptive message; SSRF re-check on the
RESOLVED stream URL (public CDNs like googlevideo pass) → 422 if not; title control-stripped +
clamped 140 (fallback "Stream"), source = extractor_key|extractor|hostname lowercase,
durationSec = numeric duration or null.
- src/app/api/audio/stream/route.ts — token → entry (prune first) else 404; SSRF re-check of the
stored remoteUrl; forwards the client Range header, Chrome UA, redirect follow, no-store;
!ok → 502 `Upstream failed (HTTP n).`; content-type must be audio/*, video/*,
application/octet-stream or application/ogg else 502 "Upstream did not return audio.";
refreshes sliding TTL, then passes through the upstream status with content-type/-length/
-range/accept-ranges (only when upstream provided them) + Cache-Control: public, max-age=1800.
- FIX found while testing: the upstream host intermittently RST/ETIMEDOUTs full (non-ranged)
fetches — verified against raw node fetch (1/6 ETIMEDOUT) — added ONE immediate retry on
network-level failure only (HTTP error statuses are never retried); after that: 2× full GET
200 audio/mpeg 8,945,229 bytes.
- tsc --noEmit: zero errors in the new files (the project's 8 pre-existing errors are all in
src/lib/ava, examples/, skills/, rust-scaffold — untouched).
Stage Summary:
- yt-dlp: /home/z/my-project/bin/yt-dlp, version 2026.10.21 (runtime order: $AVA_YTDLP →
<cwd>/bin/yt-dlp if existsSync → "yt-dlp" on PATH)
- Files created (nothing else touched, no frontend files): bin/yt-dlp, src/lib/server/ssrf.ts,
src/lib/server/stream-store.ts, src/app/api/resolve/route.ts, src/app/api/audio/stream/route.ts
- Test 1 MUST-PASS direct MP3 (soundhelix Song-1): resolve → ok:true, source:"direct",
title:"SoundHelix-Song-1.mp3"; full stream GET → 200 audio/mpeg 8,945,229 B (>1 MB; takes ~30 s
because the origin throttles at ~300 KB/s — proxy adds ~0); Range 0-1023 → 206 with
content-range "bytes 0-1023/8945229", accept-ranges, cache-control all verified
- Test 2 MUST-PASS SSRF: http://127.0.0.1/x → 400, http://169.254.169.254/latest/meta-data → 400,
ftp://example.com/a.mp3 → 400. Extras: localhost:8080 → 400 (port), foo.bar.local → 400,
[::1] → 400, [::ffff:10.0.0.5] → 400 (v4-mapped), 127.0.0.1.nip.io → 400 (DNS-result check),
"not a url" / {} / {"url":5} / bad JSON → 400 "Expected { url } JSON body."
- Test 3 YouTube jNQXAC9IVRw: bot-blocked from this datacenter IP ("Sign in to confirm you're not
a bot"). Tried the 2 extractor-args variants (youtube:player_client=web_embedded, then =tv)
within the 5-minute budget — still blocked. Surfaces as a clean 422 with the sanitized tail:
"Could not extract audio from that link: …Sign in to confirm you're not a bot…". Honest
outcome: blocked here, ACCEPTABLE per spec (would work from residential IPs / with cookies).
- Test 4 SoundCloud forss/flickermood: yt-dlp extracts fine (title "Flickermood", 213.9 s) but
this serve only exposes m3u8_native formats (hls_aac_96k/160k — confirmed in raw -J JSON) →
clean 422 adaptive(HLS/DASH) message, exactly the manifest-only contract case.
- Test 5 https://example.com/ → clean 422 "That site is not supported — try YouTube, SoundCloud,
or a direct MP3 link."; example.com/stream.m3u8 → 422 (does NOT hit the direct bypass).
- Extractor SUCCESS path proven end-to-end with archive.org: resolve → ok:true,
title:"mp3 test file", source:"archiveorg", durationSec:12.42; stream → 200 audio/mpeg
198,658 B + 206 ranged; cache replay 16 ms.
- Stream negatives: unknown/missing token → 404 "Unknown or expired stream token"; upstream 500
(missing file) → 502 "Upstream failed (HTTP 500)."
- lint: my 4 files pass eslint clean; `bun run lint` overall reports exactly 1 remaining error in
src/components/ava/link-dialog.tsx:72 (set-state-in-effect) — that file is owned by the parallel
frontend agent and was NOT touched by me per the ownership rules.
- dev.log: no exceptions/stack traces from the new routes — only expected
200/206/400/404/422/502 request lines.
- Deviations from spec (all deliberate): (1) one network-error retry in the proxy (upstream RSTs,
never retries HTTP statuses); (2) third store helper refreshStreamEntry() — the two required
helpers plus this one implements the specified "refresh sliding expiry AFTER upstream success";
(3) proxy fetch uses cache:'no-store'; (4) 500 wording "Audio extractor unavailable (yt-dlp not
found or failed to start)."; (5) success cache keyed by the normalized URL href (target.href).

Task ID: 7
Agent: main (Z.ai Code)
Task: Frontend integration of the "Link" audio source (YouTube / SoundCloud / direct MP3)
Work Log:
- Read worklog + all relevant files (audio.ts, store.ts, audio-source.ts, header.tsx,
visual-stage.tsx, footer-bar.tsx, types.ts) before editing.
- src/lib/ava/types.ts — AudioSourceKind += 'link'
- src/lib/ava/audio.ts — new startUrl(streamUrl, title): same-origin proxied <audio> element →
MediaElementAudioSourceNode → analyser (NOT cross-origin-tainted, so FFT works) → speakers;
loops by default; public sourceLabel field (file name / stream title) maintained by all
start* methods + stopSources
- src/lib/store.ts — AudioSourceState += 'link'; new sourceTitle + linkDialogOpen state
- src/components/ava/audio-source.ts — new resolveAndPlayLink(url): POST /api/resolve →
engine.audio.startUrl → store sync; never throws (returns {ok,title, source, error}); on
playback failure stops the engine and resets store; syncSource now also syncs sourceTitle
- src/components/ava/link-dialog.tsx — NEW: dialog with URL input + Load button (spinner),
inline error box with YouTube bot-wall hint, RECENT LINKS chips (localStorage, max 5,
one-click reload); body REMOUNTS on every open (fresh state — no setState-in-effect, fixes
the lint error the Task 6 agent saw mid-build); results arriving after the user closed the
dialog surface as toasts
- src/components/ava/header.tsx — "Link" segment button between File and Stop (opens dialog);
<LinkDialog /> mounted in the header
- src/components/ava/visual-stage.tsx — idle overlay gains a 4th button "Stream a Link" +
updated copy
- src/components/ava/footer-bar.tsx — SRC now shows "LINK · <title>" (truncated) for the
active source; title also shown for File sources
- src/app/api/resolve/route.ts (main-agent touch-up, coordinated with Task 6's file): added
BOT_WALL_RE mapping so YouTube's "Sign in to confirm you're not a bot" stderr returns a
clean actionable 422 instead of a raw yt-dlp tail; client hint suppressed when the server
message already explains the fix (no duplication)
Stage Summary:
- Full link-source flow wired: header/idle-overlay → dialog → resolve → proxied playback →
band analysis + beat detection + visuals, all client-side after resolution. Zero layout
changes beyond the additive bits; lint clean.
---
Task ID: 8
Agent: main (Z.ai Code)
Task: E2E verification (agent-browser) of the link source + regression checks
Work Log:
- bun run lint → zero errors; dev.log clean (no exceptions)
- Initial load: header shows Demo/Mic/File/LINK/Stop; idle overlay has 4 buttons incl.
"Stream a Link"; presets/tabs intact
- Link dialog: opens from idle overlay AND header; invalid input ("not a url") → inline
client-side error "Paste a full http(s) link…"
- Direct MP3 (SoundHelix Song 1): resolve → dialog closes → toast → footer shows
"SRC: LINK · SoundHelix-Song-1.mp3, FPS: 60, PTS: 480, BPM: 131.2" (real tempo ≈131 —
beat detection locks from the STREAMED audio, proving the same-origin proxy keeps the
analyser untainted); canvas luminance/bright-pixel counts change frame-to-frame (live
animation); screenshot ava-link-playing.png
- Failed YouTube attempt while SoundHelix playing: music KEEPS playing (failed resolve
never touches the engine) — verified footer still LINK @60fps after closing dialog
- RECENT LINKS: chip "DIRECT · SoundHelix-Song-1.mp3" appears on re-open; one-click reload
- YouTube jNQXAC9IVRw from this datacenter IP: clean 422 bot-wall message + actionable hint
(verified twice — before/after the BOT_WALL_RE improvement)
- Beat predictor regression check: tap-tempo path (6×500 ms taps on the real Set Beat
button) → "120.0 BPM, 98% confidence" → Stop → beat count 54→63 over 4.5 s, PRED badge,
confidence decays 98→80% — "keeps the beat when the bass drops out" confirmed. (Note:
auto-detect confidence on the 124 BPM demo stays low with the leftover test beatConfig
×1.35/210 ms — interval spread from the demo bassline; the designed learning path
(Set Beat) locks instantly.)
- Console: zero errors (only HMR messages)
- Mobile 390×844: no horizontal scroll; footer pushed naturally by content and STICKS to
viewport bottom when scrolled to end; VLM inspection of desktop + mobile screenshots
confirms clean layout, no breakage
Stage Summary:
- Link source fully verified in-browser: resolve → stream → analyze → visualize at 60 fps,
beat detection on streamed audio, graceful YouTube bot-wall, recent-links, predictor
regression pass. The only environmental limitation: YouTube blocks this datacenter IP
(honest 422; works from residential IPs or with server-side cookies). SoundCloud/Bandcamp/
archive.org/direct files all resolve; SoundCloud serves HLS-only for some tracks → clean
adaptive-stream error.

Task ID: 9
Agent: main (Z.ai Code)
Task: Preset library folder-tree data layer (backend + store) for the requested
"folder/file tree" Presets page redesign
Work Log:
- Prisma schema: Preset += folderPath (default "root/user created") + originalFile,
@@unique([folderPath, name]); new Folder model (path @unique). db:push OK,
client regenerated, dev server restarted once to pick up the new client.
- src/lib/server/preset-tree.ts — shared helpers: normalizeFolderPath (root-prefixed,
max depth 8, 80-char segments, control chars rejected), isValidName, parentOf,
subtreeFilter (presets) + subtreeFolderFilter (folders), ensureFolderRows
(creates missing ancestors), PROTECTED_FOLDERS = root | root/embedded | root/user created.
- GET /api/presets — one-time seed: folder backbone (root, root/embedded,
root/user created, root/embedded/{Synth-C,Amp Picks,Dynamics,Envision}) +
95 presets (5 hand-ported classics → Synth-C; 90 auto-converted Google-Drive
presets → Amp Picks 66 / Dynamics 9 / Envision 15, doubling prefix normalized).
Legacy pre-folder built-ins migrated automatically. Response now
{ presets, folders } with folderPath + originalFile on each preset.
- POST /api/presets — create in folder (409 on name clash within folder).
- PUT /api/presets/[id] — update content/author/description or RENAME (unique
per folder enforced); built-in restriction REMOVED (tree is fully manageable).
- DELETE /api/presets/[id] — any preset deletable.
- /api/folders — POST create subfolder (parent must exist), PATCH rename folder
+ all descendants (transaction, prefix rewrite), DELETE ?path= removes subtree
(folders + presets). Protected folders reject rename/delete with 400.
- /api/presets/export?path=… — jszip download preserving the directory structure
from root ("root/user created/Club Set/Test Ring.ava" style entries + dir entries).
- /api/presets/import (multipart file + targetPath) — imports .ava/.txt entries;
"root/…"-prefixed paths land at their exact path, others under the target
folder; creates missing folder rows; skips name-clash duplicates; reports
{ imported, skipped, skippedOther, foldersCreated }.
- src/lib/store.ts — PresetItem += folderPath/originalFile; EditTarget; new state:
folders, selectedFolder, selectedPresetId, expandedFolders (depth<=2 default
open), editTarget, activePresetId, randomize/randomIntervalSec/randomScope;
actions selectFolder (also sets randomize scope live), selectPreset, setEditTarget,
setActivePresetId, setRandomize, setRandomIntervalSec (3–60 s validation);
module-level club-mode timer (syncRandomTimer/stopRandomTimer, loadRandomPreset
applies to the ENGINE ONLY — never clobbers unsaved editor text; up to 4 random
retries for compilable scripts; toast per switch); settings persisted to
localStorage "ava.randomize" and restored via restoreRandomSettings(folders);
refreshPresets now fetches presets+folders and prunes stale selections.
- src/app/page.tsx — initial load sets folders, startup fallback prefers the
first root/embedded/Synth-C preset, sets activePresetId, restores randomize.
- VERIFIED via curl: seed 95/7 folders correct; create folder/preset; 409 dup;
rename folder moves preset paths; export zip listing shows full paths; delete
subtree; import restores the exact tree; protected-folder rename/delete → 400;
export root → 200. tsc clean on all touched files.
Stage Summary:
- API contract for the new UI:
GET /api/presets → { presets: PresetItem[], folders: string[] }
POST /api/presets { name, content, author?, description?, folderPath? } → { preset } | 409 | 400
PUT /api/presets/[id] { name?, content?, author?, description? } → { preset }
DELETE /api/presets/[id] → { deleted }
POST /api/folders { path } → { folder } | 409 | 400
PATCH /api/folders { path, newName } → { renamed, to, folders, presets }
DELETE /api/folders?path=… → { deleted, folders, presets } (protected → 400)
GET /api/presets/export?path=… → zip download (structure preserved from root)
POST /api/presets/import (file, targetPath) → { imported, skipped, skippedOther, foldersCreated }
- Store API for the UI (src/lib/store.ts): useAvaStore fields folders,
selectedFolder, selectedPresetId, expandedFolders, editTarget, activePresetId,
randomize, randomIntervalSec, randomScope + actions listed above; helpers
refreshPresets(), stopRandomTimer(), syncRandomTimer(), restoreRandomSettings().
- Random presets are applied engine-only (editor untouched) by design.

Task ID: 10
Agent: full-stack-developer (Presets UI)
Task: Presets tab redesign — folder/file tree manager + Script tab Save-to-target / Save As
Work Log:
- Read worklog (Task 9 contract), store.ts, all 5 API routes, old presets-tab,
script-tab, shared.ts, control-panel.tsx, page.tsx, audio-source.ts,
presets.ts, detect/beat tabs for style matching.
- src/components/ava/presets-tab.tsx — COMPLETE REWRITE (~1000 lines):
- buildTree(folders, presets): synthesizes missing Folder rows + ancestors
from preset folderPaths (defensive); segment-wise alphabetical sort
(parents before children), presets sorted within folders; subtree preset
counts per node.
- TreeFolder/TreePreset recursive rows: chevron-only expand/collapse
(store.toggleFolder; default open = path depth <= 2 segments, same rule
as the store), row click selects (selectFolder/selectPreset), preset
double-click loads, running preset = emerald Play icon + emerald-300 text
+ bg-emerald-400/10, selected rows = emerald left border + bg-zinc-800/70,
subtree count badge (font-mono, tooltip "presets in this folder and
below"), originalFile rows get a hover-visible (always on mobile) .avs
download anchor, empty folders show "(empty)" italic hint. role=tree/
treeitem/group, aria-expanded/selected/level, 36px (size-9/h-9) targets.
Tree scrolls in max-h-[420px] lg:max-h-[480px] with thinScrollbar.
- Two-column layout: tree 58% / actions 42% on sm+, stacked on mobile.
- Context-sensitive actions panel (header shows selection + counts):
preset -> LOAD PRESET (emerald; applyScriptText -> toast -> setActivePresetId
+ setEditTarget, compile error -> destructive toast + script tab), RENAME,
DELETE; folder -> CREATE PRESET (POST starter template -> refresh ->
editTarget + editor + engine + select + tab switch + toast), NEW SUBFOLDER
(POST -> expand parent + select new), RENAME (PATCH folder / PUT preset,
selection + editTarget follow the rename), DELETE (AlertDialog with
client-side blast radius "removes N presets in M folders", protected
folders root | root/embedded | root/user created have Rename+Delete
disabled with "Protected folder" tooltip), EXPORT .ZIP (asChild anchor ->
/api/presets/export?path=..., download attr), IMPORT .ZIP (hidden .zip
input -> FormData POST -> summary toast with duplicates/foldersCreated).
All server errors (409/400/404/500) surface as destructive toasts with
the server message; empty names get inline dialog validation.
- Randomize section (border-t): Checkbox + 3-60s delay input; invalid input
shows red hint and reverts to the committed store value on blur (valid
values commit live via setRandomIntervalSec); scope line reflects
randomScope (folder name or "all presets"), amber "no presets in this
folder yet" hint when scope empty; pulsing emerald "ON · every Ns" badge
while running. Timer itself runs in the store — UI only wires controls.
- NameDialog made fully controlled (parent owns value/error) to satisfy
react-hooks/set-state-in-effect lint rule.
- src/components/ava/script-tab.tsx — EDITS:
- "Saving to: root/…/Name" chip (emerald, middle-truncated path, full path
in tooltip) with X button clearing the edit target; shown only while
editTarget is set.
- Save button (emerald, only with editTarget): PUT /api/presets/[id]
{content, author from validateScript meta} -> refreshPresets + toast
'Saved to "Name"'; disabled while saving.
- Save As… button (only with editTarget): Dialog prefilled with the current
name -> POST /api/presets same folder -> setEditTarget(new) + refresh +
toast; 409 handled; empty name inline error.
- New button now also clears the edit target.
- VERIFIED in headless browser (agent-browser): tree render/expansion/
selection, Load (toast + tab wiring), Save (PUT 200), Save As (copy
created server-side + chip retargeted), delete preset + folder dialogs
(blast-radius + empty-folder wording), create preset (full flow incl.
editor + tab switch), new subfolder, rename folder (selection follows,
editTarget path rewritten), import .zip end-to-end (DataTransfer dispatch
into the hidden input -> 96 presets/8 folders -> toast -> cleanup),
randomize persistence + scope line + invalid-delay revert + ON badge.
Library restored to pristine 95 presets / 7 folders after testing.
- bun run lint: clean. tsc: clean on both touched files (pre-existing errors
elsewhere in examples/, skills/, audio.ts, script.ts untouched).
dev.log: no runtime errors.
Stage Summary:
- Files modified: src/components/ava/presets-tab.tsx (full rewrite),
src/components/ava/script-tab.tsx (chip + Save/Save As/New edits).
No changes to page.tsx, store.ts, API routes, or other tabs.
- Key decisions: subtree (not direct) preset counts on folder badges
(labeled via tooltip); NameDialog fully controlled to pass the new
react-hooks lint rules; rename keeps editTarget/randomScope/selection
pointing at the renamed paths client-side (refreshPresets prunes stale
ones server-side); delay input commits valid values live but only reverts
invalid text on blur so typing isn't fighted; export/import allowed on
protected folders (rename/delete disabled) exactly per spec.
- Store/API notes for Task 11: none needed — the Task 9 contract covered
everything. One cosmetic gap: setRandomIntervalSec is typed (sec: number)
though the store handles numeric strings at runtime; UI converts with
Number() before calling.
- Left for Task 11 verification: visual polish pass in a real browser
(spacing at 420 vs 440px panel widths, mobile stacking), touch-device
check of the hover-only .avs download button, and double-click-to-run
ergonomics (agent-browser cannot dblclick, so that path was verified via
the identical Load Preset code path).

Task ID: 11
Agent: main (Z.ai Code)
Task: E2E verification of the new folder-tree Presets page + final cleanup
Work Log:
- bun run lint: zero errors. tsc clean on all files touched by Tasks 9–10.
dev.log: no runtime errors, no hydration warnings.
- Agent-browser E2E golden path, ALL VERIFIED:
* Tree renders exactly as requested: root/ → embedded/ (Synth-C 5, Amp Picks 66,
Dynamics 9, Envision 15) + user created/ 0; subtree count badges; depth≤2
folders default-expanded; chevron-only expand/collapse; role=tree/treeitem.
* Preset select → action panel switches to preset context (Load/Rename/Delete);
folder select → full management set; protected folders (root/embedded/user
created) have Rename+Delete disabled.
* Load Preset: applied, toast, emerald Play-icon running indicator in tree,
footer SCRIPT updated, engine running.
* Create Preset: dialog → created in selected folder → auto-switch to Script
tab with starter template → "Saving to: root/user created/…/Name" chip →
edit → Save (PUT) persisted server-side (verified content round-trip) →
Save As… created "Club Ring v2" in the same folder and retargeted the chip.
* New Subfolder → "My Fav Presets" created + selected + toast.
* Rename folder "My Fav Presets" → "Club Night": both presets' paths updated.
* Delete folder: AlertDialog with blast radius ("removes 2 presets"), confirmed
→ folder + presets gone, library back to 95.
* Export .zip: link href /api/presets/export?path=… correct; zip contains
"root/user created/Round Trip/RT Preset.ava" (structure preserved from root).
* Import .zip via the UI file input (DataTransfer dispatch): toast
"Imported 1 presets — 1 folders created", tree restored at the exact path.
* Randomize: invalid delay 2 and 61 both rejected with the "3 and 60 seconds"
error + revert; 4 accepted; checkbox on → "ON · every 4s" badge; with Demo
audio running, the timer switched to a random preset from the selected
scope after ~4s (toast + footer PTS 333 matching the loaded script);
scope line follows folder selection; settings persist to localStorage and
do NOT auto-restart after reload unless enabled.
* Mobile 390×844: no horizontal scroll, tree/actions stack, footer pushed
naturally and sticks to viewport bottom when scrolled to the end.
* Fresh reload: startup falls back to the first root/embedded/Synth-C preset
(Gap The Mind), tree repopulates, zero console errors.
- Cleanup: deleted the Round Trip / Club Ring test data (library back to the
pristine 95 presets / 7 folders); test artifacts in tool-results/.
Stage Summary:
- The requested Presets page redesign is COMPLETE and browser-verified:
left folder/file tree (root → embedded {Synth-C, Amp Picks, Dynamics,
Envision} + user created) with counts, expansion, selection, running
indicator and .avs original downloads; right management panel (Load Preset,
Create Preset → Script tab → Save/Save As, New Subfolder, Rename, Delete with
confirmation + blast radius, Export .zip preserving the tree, Import .zip
restoring the tree) and Randomize (3–60 s validated) scoped to the selected
folder. All flows verified end-to-end with zero console errors.

Task ID: 12
Agent: main (Z.ai Code)
Task: LOST-WORK RECOVERY — restore the folder-tree Presets page (Tasks 9–11)
from the user's Google Drive project download after the sandbox was rebuilt
from an earlier snapshot
Context:
- The sandbox running Tasks 9–11 was replaced by a rebuilt environment whose
git history ended at the "link source" commit (51e07079 → local 4caaa3e).
The two commits containing the Google-Drive preset import (b33474e) and the
folder-tree implementation (2a23db4) existed only in the user's downloaded
copy of the project — which the user kindly re-hosted on Google Drive.
Work Log:
- Downloaded the user's archive (drive file 1yUmimOpLyz7l8BQO6keUHPCvLaV6TW5k,
86 MB tar.gz, includes .git with the two lost commits) to /tmp/ava-restore.
- Verified the archive's base commit (fb12d97, subject 51e07079) is
content-identical to the workspace HEAD 4caaa3e (git diff empty except
.zscripts/tool-results) → archive HEAD is a strict superset, safe to restore.
- Stopped the dev server, then surgically checked out all 200 files changed
between fb12d97 → 2a23db4 (excluding .zscripts/dev.pid, tool-results,
dev.log): prisma/schema.prisma (Folder model + Preset.folderPath/originalFile),
db/custom.db (pre-seeded 95 presets / 7 folders), src/lib/server/preset-tree.ts,
src/lib/ava/embedded-presets.ts, src/lib/ava/{engine,expression,script}.ts
(functions needed by the converted presets), src/app/api/{folders,presets/**
export,import}/route.ts, presets-tab.tsx (full tree rewrite), script-tab.tsx
(Save/Save As chip), store.ts (tree + randomize state), page.tsx, plus the
95 .avs originals under public/avs-originals/… and tools/convert-avs.ts.
- Ran `bun run db:generate` to rebuild the Prisma client for the new schema
(the restored db already matched it — no db:push needed, no data loss).
- Restarted the dev server (port 3000, single instance).
- VERIFIED via API: GET /api/presets → 95 presets / 7 folders
(Synth-C 5, Amp Picks 66, Dynamics 9, Envision 15); export
root/embedded/Synth-C → zip with full "root/embedded/Synth-C/*.ava" paths;
import of the same zip → 0 imported / 5 skipped (duplicate paths) — round
trip intact.
- VERIFIED in agent-browser (desktop 1440×900 + mobile 390×844): tree renders
(root 95 → embedded {Amp Picks 66, Dynamics 9, Envision 15, Synth-C 5} +
user created), preset select → Load Preset → engine running (footer
"SRC: DEMO, FPS: 60, PTS: 480, BPM: 126.8, SCRIPT: Gap The Mind, engine ok"),
New Subfolder ("My Fav Presets" created + selected), Rename (→ "Club Night",
toast shows new path), Delete (alertdialog + server 200, tree cleaned),
Randomize delay validation ("2" → red "Delay must be between 3 and 60
seconds." hint; "4" commits), .avs original HEAD → 200, reload → startup
fallback loads Gap The Mind, zero console/page errors, mobile: no horizontal
scroll, footer pushed naturally and flush with the viewport bottom when
scrolled to end. bun run lint: clean.
- Test data cleaned up (Club Night folder deleted; library back to 95/7).
- Committed the restoration to git and left the recovery remote/objects
out of the repo (temp files remain in /tmp/ava-restore only).
Stage Summary:
- The folder-tree Presets page (Tasks 9–11) is fully restored and re-verified
end-to-end. Root cause of the "revert": the environment was rebuilt from a
snapshot predating the morning's commits; the work itself was never lost in
the user's download. All state (schema, data, API, UI, presets, tooling)
now matches the archive's HEAD (2a23db4) on top of the current workspace.
- NOTE for the future: commit snapshots are the source of truth when an
environment rebuild is suspected — compare git log before re-implementing.

Task ID: 13
Agent: main (Z.ai Code)
Task: v6.0 — rename to "Open Visualization Engine" (AVA → OVE) + footer
version indicator (establishes the versioning convention)
Work Log:
- New src/lib/version.ts — single source of truth: APP_NAME
"Open Visualization Engine", APP_SHORT "OVE", APP_VERSION "6.0" + a
short version-history comment (6.0 rename+stamp, 5.0 folder-tree, 4.0
link source) so future bumps are a one-line change.
- src/app/layout.tsx — document title now "OVE — Open Visualization Engine
(v6.0)" (built from the constants); description + keywords updated
(AVA→OVE, "agent"→"engine").
- src/components/ava/header.tsx — logo block h1 "AVA" → "OVE" (APP_SHORT),
subtitle "ADVANCED VISUALIZATION AGENT" → "OPEN VISUALIZATION ENGINE"
(APP_NAME.toUpperCase()), both imported from version.ts.
- src/components/ava/footer-bar.tsx — right cluster is now a ml-auto wrapper
holding: "version 6.0" stamp (text-zinc-600, tooltip "Open Visualization
Engine — version 6.0") immediately LEFT of the engine-ok dot + label,
exactly as requested. Stamp is visible on mobile too (fits: no horizontal
scroll at 390px).
- Internal code identifiers (ava store/lib/component paths, ava-agent rust
crate) intentionally left unchanged — the rename is user-facing only.
- VERIFIED in agent-browser: title "OVE — Open Visualization Engine (v6.0)";
header logo/subtitle; footer text "...version 6.0\nengine ok" with the
stamp on the same row, right of the stats, left of the dot; mobile 390×844
no horizontal scroll + stamp visible; zero console/page errors; lint clean.
- Committed as "v6.0 — rename to Open Visualization Engine + version stamp".
Stage Summary:
- Versioning convention established: bump APP_VERSION in src/lib/version.ts
on every large change; the stamp renders bottom-right of the footer and the
document title carries it too. Users can name local backups by the stamp
(e.g. "OVE v6.0") and cross-check against z.ai Version History.

Task ID: 14
Agent: main (Z.ai Code)
Task: v6.1 — preset library quality pass: every embedded stand-in is now a
UNIQUE visual (user reported "Containment" and "Dragonscales" look identical)
Root cause:
- The old converter had only 6 fixed fallback templates chosen by
seed % 6, so 76 of 90 embedded presets collapsed into 6 identical visuals
(19×swirl, 16×pulse-rings, 14×starfield, 12×lattice, 10×kaleido, 5×tunnel);
library-wide only 25 of 95 distinct script bodies.
Work Log:
- tools/convert-avs.ts — REPLACED the fallback generator:
* 16 geometric families (pulse rings, tunnel, starfield, lattice, swirl,
kaleido, lissajous, spectrum bars, moire, fountain, rose, orbits, ribbon,
web, rain, helix), each parameterized.
* 6 palettes (rainbow / fire / ice / neon-band / mono / duotone).
* Every numeric parameter drawn from mulberry32 seeded by hashStr(preset
name) — same name regenerates the same visual forever; different names
always differ (counts, speeds, twists, couplings, widths, persistence).
* Family chosen from the original's unportable components (BlitterFeedback
→ tunnel/kaleido/moire, Movement → swirl/ribbon/web, Mirror → kaleido,
DotFountain → fountain, …) + guaranteed full 16-family rotation per run
(unused-families first) + 25% wild card.
* Every generated fallback is smoke-tested; a known-good safeFallback is
the last resort (never emits a broken script).
* Fixed during regen: getspec() needs 3 args (spectrum family); tiny-n
guard (ported scopes rendering <16 points now also become stand-ins —
5 more presets rescued); folder path no longer double-prefixed
("root/embedded/root/embedded/…" → clean at the source); same-path
copyFileSync guard so the converter can re-run in place.
- Regenerated src/lib/ava/embedded-presets.ts from public/avs-originals/
embedded/ (90 presets: 9 ported original-code + 81 unique stand-ins; all
16 families used, max 9 presets per family, 90/90 distinct bodies).
- prisma/schema.prisma — Preset.approx Boolean (marks stand-ins), Settings.
embeddedSeed String? (seed-version marker). db push + client regenerated;
dev server restarted once to pick up the new client.
- GET /api/presets — ensureSeeded is now VERSION-GATED: when Settings.
embeddedSeed !== EMBEDDED_SEED_VERSION ('6.1', exported from
embedded-presets.ts), the root/embedded subtree + stray built-ins are
deleted and re-seeded from BUILTIN + EMBEDDED (user presets untouched).
Future library regenerations propagate automatically on next request.
Response now includes approx per preset.
- src/lib/store.ts — PresetItem.approx?: boolean.
- src/components/ava/presets-tab.tsx — amber "≈" badge on tree rows for
approx presets (tooltip explains: original relies on effects the script
engine can't run; uniquely generated stand-in).
- src/lib/version.ts — APP_VERSION '6.1'.
- VERIFIED: API re-seed → 95 presets / 7 folders, 81 approx + 14 original
code, 95/95 distinct bodies, Containment ≠ Dragonscales (different
families + parameters); VLM image comparison of live screenshots confirms
clearly different visuals (organic single loop vs woven orbital knot);
Kingish (594 pts) renders; ≈ badges (60 of 66 Amp Picks rows); Randomize
over root scope switches presets at 3 s (Kingish → Plankton); export zip
66 entries with clean paths; zero console/page errors; lint clean.
Stage Summary:
- Every embedded preset is now visually unique (95/95 distinct bodies).
- Honesty layer: approx stand-ins are badged "≈" in the tree; descriptions
name the generated family; the original .avs download remains one click.
- Regeneration pipeline: bun tools/convert-avs.ts public/avs-originals/
embedded → bump SEED_VERSION in the converter → DB refreshes itself via
the embeddedSeed marker on the next GET /api/presets.
- 9 error files (parser "out of bytes") remain excluded — parser hardening
is future work if those originals matter.

Task ID: 15-11
Agent: general-purpose (E2E verifier)
Task: v6.2 security hardening — end-to-end browser + API verification
Work Log:
- Read worklog Tasks 9–14 + v6.2 sources (presets-tab.tsx, script-tab.tsx,
user-presets.ts, api routes) read-only to know exact button/toast wording.
- A. curl probes of every mutation endpoint (POST/PUT/DELETE presets,
POST/DELETE folders, import, settings, GET presets shape).
- B. agent-browser desktop session at 1440×900: golden path exactly per
checklist — embedded folder/preset panels, lock/User badges (DOM
svg.lucide-lock / svg.lucide-user), Copy to my presets, dblclick load,
user-folder management (Create Preset → Script tab → Save), rename,
embedded Save block toast + Save As copy, subfolder + nested preset +
blast-radius delete, preset delete, Survivor persistence across reload,
full cleanup, client-side zip export toast, localStorage JSON check,
Randomize delay validation (2 vs 5) + uncheck. Screenshots + VLM visual
cross-checks in tool-results/e2e-v62/.
- C. Mobile 390×844: scrollWidth check, tree/panel stacking geometry,
footer position (first paint vs scrolled-to-end), lock badges, panel
interaction; VLM visual confirmation of 07-mobile-firstpaint.png.
- D. dev.log reviewed over the whole session window (baseline line 288 →
end 396): only prisma:query + GET 200s; grepped for error/warn/exception.
- Final state: browser localStorage ove.userPresets.v1 =
{"v":1,"folders":[],"presets":[]} (user created empty); server library
pristine 95 presets / 7 folders, zero user-created rows.
Results:
- A1..A4: PASS. A1 POST /api/presets → 403 "The server preset library is

A2 DELETE /api/folders?path=root/embedded → 403 (same class of message).
A3 GET /api/settings → 404 (Next 404 page; title "OVE — … (v6.2)").
A4 GET /api/presets → 200, exactly 95 presets, folders exactly
[root, root/embedded, root/embedded/{Amp Picks, Dynamics, Envision,
Synth-C}, root/user created], 0 presets under root/user created.
Extra probes: PUT & DELETE /api/presets/[id] → 403; POST /api/folders →
403; POST /api/presets/import → 403; PUT /api/folders → 405 (no handler —
mutation still blocked); GET /api/presets/export → 200 (read-only legacy
endpoint still present; UI export is client-side as built).
- B5..B21: ALL PASS.
B5 title/header "OVE", footer "version 6.2 | engine ok", tree embedded(95)
+ subfolders with 🔒 lock icons on root/embedded/×4 subfolders (user
created without), user created(0), 0 console errors.
B6 embedded folder → read-only note, only Export .zip + Import .zip (no
Create/Rename/Delete), READ-ONLY chip (VLM-confirmed).
B7 embedded preset (Kingish) → Load Preset + Copy to my presets, no
Rename/Delete, READ-ONLY chip.
B8 toast "Copied to your presets | ""Kingish (copy)"" is now yours to

with User icon.
B9 dblclick copy → "Preset loaded | ""Kingish (copy)"" is now running."
B10 user created folder → Create Preset + New Subfolder enabled, Rename +

B11 Create "Test Preset E2E" → "Preset created", auto-switch to Script
tab with "Saving to: root/user created/Test Preset E2E" chip.
B12 Save → "Saved to ""Test Preset E2E"" …" + updatedAt>createdAt in
localStorage (PASS on retry — see issue 1).
B13 Rename → "Preset renamed | ""Test Preset E2E"" is now ""Test Renamed""."
B14 embedded target Save → destructive "Embedded presets are read-only |

Save As… (name kept) → "Copy saved | ""Plankton"" created in
root/user created (this browser)." + chip retargeted.
B15 E2E Folder created; "Nested One" created inside it; folder delete

B16 "Test Renamed" deleted after confirm → "Preset deleted".
B17 "Survivor" survived full page reload under user created (badge 4).
B18 cleanup: Survivor, Plankton, Kingish (copy), Kingish all deleted →
localStorage {"v":1,"folders":[],"presets":[]}, tree "user created 0".
B19 embedded folder Export .zip → "Export ready | 95 presets zipped and
downloading." 0 console/page errors.
B20 ove.userPresets.v1 valid JSON {v:1, folders:[], presets:0}.
B21 delay "2" → red "Delay must be between 3 and 60 seconds." (committed
value kept at 10s); "5" → error gone, badge "ON · every 5s"; uncheck OK.
- C22: PASS (with wording note). 390×844: scrollWidth 390 = clientWidth 390
(no horizontal scroll); tree + management panel stack vertically (both
320px wide) and stay usable (embedded select → note + Export/Import);
6 lock badges render (VLM-confirmed). Footer: page content is 1313px tall
so the footer is below the fold on first paint; it is flush with the
document bottom and fully visible when scrolled to the end
(footerBottom = 844 = viewportH). Desktop 1440×900: footer IS within the
first paint (doc height exactly 900). Same mobile behavior as accepted in
Tasks 11–13.
- D23: PASS. Session window of dev.log contains only prisma:query lines and
GET 200s; zero error/warn/exception lines in the entire log; the single
"[presets] embedded library drift detected — re-seeding from source" at
line 251 predates this session (expected/informational). Repeated DELETE
prisma lines on every GET are purgeVisitorJunk()'s indexed deleteMany —
by design (v6.2 self-heal).
Issues found:
- 1 (environmental, not an app bug): during the session the dev server
pushed 4 "[Fast Refresh] rebuilding" HMR updates (delayed propagation of
the 07:25–07:29 source changes; session began 07:31, no file changed
after 07:29:46). One rebuild landed exactly on the first B12 "Save"
click: the zustand store was re-initialized, editTarget cleared (chip +
Save/Save As… buttons vanished) and no toast/save occurred. Re-establishing
the target via Load Preset and re-clicking Save worked flawlessly with
zero console errors. No app fix needed; restarting the dev server before
future E2E sessions would avoid the race.
- 2 (observation): PUT /api/folders returns 405 instead of 403 (route
exports no PUT). Mutation is still blocked; cosmetic difference only.
- 3 (observation): GET /api/presets/export still answers 200 server-side
(read-only zip download). The UI export path is client-side JSZip as
built; the legacy endpoint is harmless but could be removed for a fully
client-side story.
- 4 (observation): on mobile 390×844 the footer is not within the first
viewport paint (content is 1313px tall); it is the last element, flush
with the document bottom when scrolled to the end. If "footer visible on
first paint" is a hard mobile requirement, the layout would need a
sticky-footer redesign.
- 5 (observation): "user created" root folder's Rename/Delete buttons are
rendered disabled by design ("root of your library" protection) — buttons
are present as the checklist expects, just not enabled for the root
itself; user PRESETS get enabled Rename/Delete.

Task ID: 15
Agent: main (Z.ai Code)
Task: v6.2 — security hardening for the shared VPS (openvisengine.com): protect
the embedded library from visitor edits/renames/deletes, and move "user
created" presets into each visitor's own browser so cross-visitor spam is
impossible.
User requirement:
- Deleting/renaming/adding presets under embedded/ must not affect other
visitors. User presets must live in the visitor's "temporary files" (site-
accessible browser storage). No visitor-created garbage visible to others.
Work Log:
- src/lib/preset-paths.ts (NEW, pure module shared client+server): ROOT,
EMBEDDED_ROOT, USER_ROOT constants + isEmbeddedPath/isUserAreaPath +
client-side twins of normalizeFolderPath/isValidName.
- src/lib/server/preset-tree.ts: constants now sourced from preset-paths;
re-exports the helpers; doc updated (read-only model).
- src/lib/ava/user-presets.ts (NEW): the browser-stored user library —
localStorage key ove.userPresets.v1, shape-checked + self-healing reads,
quota-guarded writes, ids "local-<uuid>", caps (200 presets / 100 folders /
128 KB per script), full CRUD (create/rename/delete preset, create/rename/
delete folder with subtree moves + depth guard, zip-import batch). Spam
physically cannot reach the server: nothing here ever calls fetch.
- src/lib/ava/preset-io.ts (NEW): client-side JSZip export (builds zip from
the merged tree, browser download) + import (unpacks zip in-browser;
remaps every entry into root/user created — embedded paths become the
visitor's editable copies; 50 MB / 2000-entry caps).
- src/lib/store.ts: PresetItem unchanged; refreshPresets now MERGES server
embedded library (user-area rows filtered out defensively) with
listUserPresets() and allUserFolderPaths(); applyUserPresets() re-merges
after local CRUD; settings persistence (band/beat/default script/randomize)
is now localStorage-only — the debounced PUT /api/settings layer was
deleted; stale randomScope heals to root/user created.
- src/app/page.tsx: useInitialLoad now uses refreshPresets() (merged tree) and
reads configs exclusively from localStorage; no /api/settings fetch.
- Server hardening:
* GET /api/presets — ensureSeeded upgraded with a FINGERPRINT self-heal:
embedded subtree must exactly match BUILTIN+EMBEDDED (folder+name), else
re-seeds (heals pre-hardening renames/deletes/injections even without a
version bump); purgeVisitorJunk() deletes any isBuiltIn=false rows,
user-area presets, and non-backbone folders on every GET; response serves
only isBuiltIn rows in root/embedded/** + the 7 backbone folders.
* POST /api/presets, PUT/DELETE /api/presets/[id], POST/PUT/PATCH/DELETE
/api/folders, POST /api/presets/import → 403 with explanatory messages.
* /api/settings route DELETED (404). /api/presets/export kept as a
read-only maintainer backup endpoint (UI no longer uses it).
- src/components/ava/presets-tab.tsx rework: lock badge on root/embedded
folders; "read-only" chip in the panel; embedded folder → informational
note + Export/Import only; embedded preset → Load + "Copy to my presets"
(auto-uniquified name, lands in user created); user presets flagged with a
User icon and get Rename/Delete; all CRUD + zip import/export now local
(user-presets + preset-io libs, applyUserPresets re-merge); user created
empty-state hint; delete confirms say "from this browser".
- src/components/ava/script-tab.tsx: Save on an embedded target → blocking
toast directing to Save As; Save As always lands in the user area
(embedded/root targets redirect to root/user created); saves are
updateUserPreset/createUserPreset (browser).
- src/lib/version.ts → 6.2 (+history line). detect-tab.tsx stale comment fixed.
- VERIFIED (subagent E2E, Task 15-11, 23/23 PASS): all curl mutations 403
(incl. PUT folders after cosmetic fix); GET serves 95 presets/7 folders/zero
user-area rows; junk-seeded DB (spam preset, injected row, vandal-renamed
"Gap The Mind", junk folders) fully self-healed on next GET; browser flows:
lock badges, read-only panel, Copy to my presets, create/rename/delete
preset + folder (incl. nested blast radius), Save-blocked-on-embedded +
Save As redirect, persistence across reload, client export toast (95 zipped),
randomize 3–60s validation, mobile 390×844 no horizontal scroll, zero
console errors; lint clean.
- Committed as "v6.2 — read-only embedded library + per-visitor browser presets".
Stage Summary:
- Threat model closed: the server accepts ZERO visitor writes (403 on every
mutation endpoint), the embedded library self-heals against drift (rename/
delete/inject → fingerprint re-seed), and each visitor's presets live in
their own localStorage (merge is client-side). Spam/vandalism cannot cross
visitors by construction.
- Migration note for the VPS: previously server-stored user presets are
abandoned (purged by self-heal); visitors re-import via zip if needed.
Settings (band/beat/default script) are per-browser now.
- /api/presets/export intentionally kept: read-only maintainer backup of the
embedded library.

Task ID: 16-d
Agent: general-purpose (E2E verifier)
Task: v6.3 theme tick switch — end-to-end verification
Work Log:
- Read worklog Task 15 + 15-11 for context; read v6.3 sources read-only
(header.tsx theme switch, globals.css .light remap, version.ts 6.3,
help-panel/script-tab patches).
- agent-browser desktop session 1440×900 at http://localhost:3000: cleared
localStorage, fresh load, dark-default + theme-pill geometry checks,
toggle to light, full tab walk (Presets/Script/Detect/Beat/Native +
Help panel), embedded preset select + Copy-to-my-presets panel, Create
Preset dialog in light AND dark, "Theme Test" create/delete toasts +
cleanup, persistence reloads (light→reload, dark→reload), rapid 5×
toggling, demo-track run for live VU meters + visualization, mobile
390×844 light + dark (scrollWidth, stacking, footer flush, pill
tappable), console + page-error checks after every phase.
- ENVIRONMENT INCIDENT (diagnosed + documented, no source edits): for the
first ~12 min of the session the dev server served a STALE CSS chunk
([root-of-the-server]__0f0ba101._.css, emitted 07:50:04, 158,839→
158,921 B) that contained the v6.3 `color-scheme: dark` addition but
NOT the `.light { --color-* }` block — so toggling set html.light +
checked state but the page stayed visually dark. Control test: the
current src/app/globals.css compiled through the project's own
@tailwindcss/postcss 4.1.18 (+ lightningcss 1.30.2) DOES emit .light —
source correct, server module graph stale (final 07:48:50 save never
propagated; same delayed-HMR class as Task 15-11 issue 1). A single
content-preserving `touch` of globals.css (md5 unchanged before/after:
2aa8062c…) triggered Turbopack's delayed rebuild at 08:04:59 → chunk
158,941 B now contains .light. All light-theme verdicts below were
re-verified against the real served CSS after that point (earlier
interim checks used a byte-identical injected copy of the .light block,
same results).
- VLM (z-ai vision) cross-checks on 13 screenshots (light full page,
presets/script/help, dark default/toggled/script, dialog, toast, mobile
light/dark, stale-state evidence, live visualization).
- Screenshots: tool-results/e2e-v63/ (37 files, 01…34).
- Final state: browser closed; localStorage 'theme' key removed (fresh
dark default), ove.userPresets.v1 = {"v":1,"folders":[],"presets":[]};
server library untouched; scratch test dir removed; source files
unmodified (git status = builder's v6.3 changes only).
Results:
- 1: PASS — fresh load (no 'theme' key): html.dark, body bg zinc-950
(#09090b), text zinc-100 (#f4f4f5), footer "version 6.3 | engine ok",
title "OVE — Open Visualization Engine (v6.3)".
- 2: PASS — pill Moon(x1135)|Switch(x1155,w32,unchecked,aria-label
"Switch to light theme")|Sun(x1193); BPM number box starts x1230 —
pill immediately LEFT of the emerald BPM readout, 6 px gaps, no
overlap/shift (VLM-confirmed).
- 3: PASS — dark regression clean: tree 95 presets/7 folders, lock badges
on embedded folders, script editor #09090b bg + light mono text, Set
Beat bg #34d399 + emerald-950 text (7.8:1), no white boxes (VLM:
"no regressions").
- 4: PASS — click flips switch right (aria-checked=true, knob translates,
track #059669 + white knob in light) and the ENTIRE chrome flips white:
body #ffffff/#18181b, wrapper zinc-950→white, panels/borders light
(before/after: 01→17/18/19). See env incident above for the stale-CSS
window at session start.
- 5: PASS — light readability across ALL tabs: header (logo, source
buttons, demo slider, BPM readout deep green #059669, Set Beat
#059669/#022c22, pill); Presets (rows #27272a on white, ≈ badges
rose-400 #e11d48 on /10 tint — 60 in Amp Picks, counts 95/66/9/15/5/0,
note #71717a, Load Preset #059669 bg, Copy white/#18181b/#d4d4d8);
Script (editor white bg, #27272a mono, gutter #8b8b93, status
"✔ Compiled OK" #059669); Detect (labels #52525b/#71717a, live VU bars
#059669/#e11d48/#b45309 on light tracks with demo running); Beat
(SET BEAT #059669/#022c22, labels readable); Native (headings #27272a,
body #52525b, .ava token deep green); Help (code blocks #e4e4e7/40 bg +
#27272a text — v6.3 patch works); footer readable + "version 6.3";
VisualStage canvas stays BLACK (rgb(0,0,0)) with light border #e4e4e7.
VLM: no unreadable/low-contrast text, no dark leftovers.
- 6: PASS — Create Preset dialog light: card #ffffff, heading/input text
#18181b, input bg #fafafa; same dialog dark: card #0a0a0a, input
white/4.5% bg + near-white text.
- 7: PASS (with notes) — no white-on-white/black-on-black anywhere; body
text ≥4.6:1; accents clearly readable. Notes: emerald buttons ≈4.0:1,
help-panel emerald-300/90 tokens ≈2.5:1 (see Issues 2-3).
- 8: PASS — light toast "Preset created — "Theme Test" created in this
browser" (white card via --popover, #18181b text); delete confirm +
"Preset deleted" toast same styling; localStorage cleaned afterwards.
- 9: PASS — light + reload: html.light, switch checked, theme=light,
page renders white (with live CSS); toggle dark + reload: html.dark,
unchecked, theme=dark, page dark.
- 10: PASS — 5 rapid clicks: end state light, html class/theme key/
switch in sync at every step, zero errors, no stuck states.
- 11: PASS — console + page errors zero across the whole session (both
themes, ~10 loads, dialogs, toasts, toggling, mobile): only React
DevTools info, "[HMR] connected", "[Fast Refresh] rebuilding/done".
- 12: PASS — mobile 390×844 light: scrollWidth 390 = clientWidth 390
(no horizontal scroll), theme pill visible + tappable (wrapped into
header row 1, no overlap), tree + panel stack (358 px), footer flush at
document bottom (footerBottom 1313 = docHeight 1313; below fold on
first paint — same as accepted in Task 15-11).
- 13: PASS — mobile dark: same checks pass (no h-scroll, pill visible,
bg #09090b/text #f4f4f5).
- 14: PASS — dev.log session window (lines 529-722): only GET 200s +
prisma:query; zero error/warn/exception lines. (Pre-session lines
443-510 contain builder-era transient errors — see Issue 5.)
Issues found:
- 1 (environmental, resolved mid-session, NO app bug): dev server served
a stale Turbopack CSS chunk missing the entire .light palette remap for
~12 min (07:52-08:05) — theme toggle flipped state (html.light) but the
page stayed dark, and the switch track rendered white-on-dark. Root
cause: the final 07:48:50 globals.css save never propagated through
HMR (delayed/broken watcher state; 4 runtime-error full reloads from
the builder's mid-edit saves at 07:44-07:50 left the graph stale).
Content-preserving touch + delayed rebuild fixed it at 08:04:59.
Control compile of the current source through the project's own
toolchain emits .light correctly. Recommendation: RESTART the dev
server (or at least verify the served chunk contains .light) before
the next session and before any VPS deploy of v6.3 — a stale build
would ship a theme switch that visually does nothing.
- 2 (minor, light-mode contrast): help-panel inline code tokens
(text-emerald-300/90 — e.g. [init], [frame], variable names in the
reference tables) resolve to #10b981 on white ≈ 2.5:1 — below WCAG AA
4.5:1 and even below 3:1; readable but washed-out. Consider deepening
the emerald-300 remap (e.g. to #059669) or switching these tokens to
emerald-400 in light mode.
- 3 (minor, light-mode contrast): emerald action buttons (header Set
Beat, Load Preset, Beat-tab SET BEAT) are text-emerald-950 #022c22 on
bg-emerald-400 #059669 ≈ 4.0:1 — just under AA 4.5:1 for small text
(passes 3:1 large-text; dark-mode equivalent is 7.8:1). Borderline,
likely acceptable for bold button labels.
- 4 (observation): script editor line-number gutter (text-zinc-600 →
#8b8b93 on white) ≈ 3.4:1 — auxiliary text, acceptable but dimmer
than body text.
- 5 (observation, pre-existing): dev.log lines 443-510 (before this
session) contain 4× "⚠ Fast Refresh had to perform a full reload due
to a runtime error" plus transient "⨯ ReferenceError: useRef is not
defined at SourceControls (header.tsx:63)" GET / 500s — artifacts of
the v6.3 builder's mid-edit saves. Current source imports useRef
correctly; nothing recurred in this session.
- 6 (observation): on mobile 390 px the theme pill wraps into header row
1 (next to the logo) rather than sitting beside the BPM readout as on
desktop — clean flex-wrap, no overlap; consistent with the header's
responsive design.
- 7 (note): "Set Beat button … very dark green text" expectation —
confirmed #022c22 (emerald-950) on #059669; and the checklist's "help
headings readable green": Help section headings are zinc-400 gray by
design (unchanged from dark theme); the GREEN elements in Help are the
inline code tokens (see Issue 2).

Task ID: 16
Agent: main (Z.ai Code)
Task: v6.3 — light/dark theme tick switch in the header (user request: switch
top-right, left of the BPM indicator; flip right = white theme).
Work Log:
- src/app/globals.css — light theme via palette REMAP under `.light` (the app
is styled with raw zinc/emerald/rose/amber utilities, so remapping those CSS
variables flips the whole chrome): zinc ramp inverted (950→#ffffff page,
100→#18181b text, 900→#fafafa panels, 800→#e4e4e7 hover/borders, 700→#d4d4d8
borders, 600→#8b8b93 hints); accents deepened one step for white
backgrounds (emerald-400→#059669, emerald-300→#10b981 so hovers still
lighten; rose-300/400, amber-300/400 likewise). color-scheme light/dark set
on .light/.dark. Unlayered class rules beat Tailwind's @layer theme, so the
remap wins with opacity variants too (color-mix keeps var references).
- src/app/layout.tsx — ThemeProvider (next-themes, attribute="class",
defaultTheme="dark", enableSystem=false, disableTransitionOnChange);
hardcoded <html class="dark"> removed (next-themes sets it pre-paint).
- src/components/ava/header.tsx — ThemeToggle pill (Moon | Switch | Sun,
h-11 matching the other header controls) in the right cluster as the first
child — immediately LEFT of the BPM readout. Left/unchecked = dark (default),
flipped right/checked = white theme. Mount guard via useSyncExternalStore
(lint-clean replacement for the setState-in-effect pattern); switch track:
zinc-600 unchecked / emerald-400 checked, default thumb colors verified for
all four theme×state combos.
- Contrast patches: text-zinc-950 → text-emerald-950 on all emerald CTAs (12
spots, 7 files — near-black green on emerald in both themes); help-panel
code blocks bg-black/40 → bg-zinc-800/40; help-panel inline tokens
text-emerald-300/90 → text-emerald-400/90 (light: #059669/90 ≈ 4.3:1,
was 2.5:1); native-tab blockquote text-emerald-200/80 →
text-emerald-700/90 dark:text-emerald-200/80.
- The visualization canvas intentionally KEEPS its black stage in light mode
(the "screen"); only the chrome flips.
- src/lib/version.ts → 6.3 (+history line). Fixed a mid-edit useRef import
regression (500s during editing, resolved).
- Dev-server ops: killed my pkill'd instance, restarted with double-fork
detach (( setsid bun run dev & )) — survives across tool sessions; verified
the served CSS chunk now contains the .light palette (was a stale Turbopack
chunk for ~12 min during verification — subagent diagnosed; restart fixed).
- VERIFIED (subagent E2E 16-d, 14/14 PASS + my own post-restart smoke test):
dark default (html.dark, no theme key); toggle left of BPM (switch right
1187 < BPM left 1230), flips to html.light with white body/dark text; ALL
tabs readable in light (header, presets tree + locks + ≈ badges, white
script editor, detect VU bars, beat, native, help code blocks, footer);
dialogs + toasts themed correctly; Set Beat #059669 bg + #022c22 text;
VisualStage stays black with light border; persistence across reload both
ways; rapid 5× toggling stable; zero console/page errors; mobile 390×844
both themes no horizontal scroll, footer flush at document bottom.
- Committed as "v6.3 — light/dark theme tick switch in the header".
Stage Summary:
- Theme = per-visitor preference (localStorage via next-themes), default
dark — matches the club aesthetic; light mode is a clean white studio look
with deepened emerald/rose/amber accents for contrast.
- Implementation note for future styling: new UI should keep using the
zinc/emerald utilities (not raw hex) so both themes keep working; anything
on the emerald buttons should use text-emerald-950.

Task ID: 16
Agent: main (Z.ai Code)
Task: v6.4 — (a) beat detection stops when no music is playing/loaded; (b) dark theme restyled to royal purple with light-yellow highlights
Work Log:
- Root cause of ghost beats: AvaEngine.loop fed BeatTracker.update() every frame
regardless of audio state, and the phase-locked predictor keeps firing after
confidence builds (music just stopped) or after Set Beat taps (taps block the
confidence decay path) — so the indicator pulsed to a stale grid with no source.
- src/lib/ava/beat.ts — new standby(): full reset + returns a constant
STANDBY_FRAME {beat:false, source:'none', bpm:0, phase:0, confidence:0}.
Called every idle frame; drops everything learned so stale tempo can never
leak ghost beats while idle OR into the next track (source switches relearn
fresh — a feature).
- src/lib/ava/engine.ts — loop gates the tracker: audio.kind === 'idle' →
standby(), else update(). env.beat/bpm/beatphase/beatconf go to 0 while idle;
stats.source still reports the kind.
- src/app/page.tsx — useBeatWatcher: early return on stats.source === 'idle'
(also drops prevPhaseRef so a resumed source can't false-flash).
- src/components/ava/beat-dot.tsx — dot dims to opacity-35 (no glow) while
idle (flashes still override), aria-label "Beat indicator — paused, no audio
playing"; theme-aware glow-beat-flash/glow-beat-idle classes.
- src/components/ava/beat-tab.tsx — Set Beat feedback while idle: "No audio
playing — start a source, then tap along"; SET BEAT glow class; "How it
works" documents the new pause behavior.
- Theme (dark → royal purple + light yellow), same proven remap technique as
v6.3 .light — src/app/globals.css .dark block rewritten:
• semantic tokens: background #1b0f2e, card/popover #2a1a42, secondary
#35244e, border/input #453063, primary/ring #fde047 (+purple foreground
#241238), chart/sidebar purple-yellow family → dialogs/toasts/sliders/
switches follow.
• zinc ramp → royal purple: 950 #1b0f2e (page/header/footer), 900 #2a1a42
(panels/tabs), 800 #3d2957 (borders/tracks), 700 #56406f, 600 #74599f,
500 #937cbb … 50 #f5f1fb (lavender text ramp).
• emerald → light yellow: 200 #fef9c3, 300 #fef08a, 400 #fde047 (CTAs, BPM,
active states, beat dot), 500 #facc15, 950 #241238 (deep purple text on
yellow buttons — the yellow CTAs' label color).
• new --accent-rgb (253 224 71 dark / 5 150 105 light) + --scrollbar-thumb
(also defaulted in :root); seven .glow-* utilities (logo, segment, cta,
setbeat, beat-flash, beat-idle, status) replace ALL hardcoded emerald
rgba() shadows (7 spots, 6 files) so glows follow the theme; Firefox
scrollbar-color now var-driven (shared.ts).
• light theme untouched apart from the two new vars — verified intact.
- src/components/ava/detect-tab.tsx — Mid band VU amber-300 → orange-400
(amber was indistinguishable from the new yellow bass/highlight; three
bands now yellow / orange / rose in dark, green / orange / rose in light).
- src/lib/version.ts → 6.4 (+history line). bun run lint clean.
Stage Summary:
- E2E (agent-browser, 1440×900 + 390×844), ALL PASS:
• Beat: demo + 5× Set Beat taps → locks 120.2 BPM, predictor carries;
Stop → ZERO ghost flashes over 8 s (previously ~16 predicted beats),
BPM "—", beat count 0, dot dimmed 0.35, aria "paused, no audio playing";
idle taps = one flash each, no sustained grid, honest feedback text.
• Demo auto-detect staying unlocked is PRE-EXISTING documented behavior
(worklog Task 8: demo bassline keeps rolling average high; Set Beat /
real music lock fine) — not a v6.4 regression.
• Dark: body #1b0f2e, logo tile/BPM/Native CTA/beat dot #fde047, CTA text
#241238, footer micro text lavender #937cbb/#c9b8e6 (VLM "gray" note was
the intentional muted style), VU bands distinct, zero console errors.
• Light: white body, emerald-600 accents, emerald glow — no yellow leakage.
• Mobile: no horizontal scroll, footer flush at viewport bottom when
scrolled to end; VLM review of dark+mobile screenshots: cohesive royal
purple + light yellow, no breakage.
- New styling rule going forward: keep using zinc/emerald utilities (they are
the remap surface); on yellow CTAs always text-emerald-950; for accent glows
use the .glow-* classes, never rgba() literals.

Task ID: 16
Agent: main (Z.ai Code)
Task: v6.5 — restore from v6.4 archive, OVE logo favicon, Settings tab
(replaces parked Native tab) with theme picker: base chrome (Royal Purple /
Matte Black / Black + Purple Outline / Light) × highlight color (Purple,
Yellow, Blue, Green, Red, Orange)
Work Log:
- Downloaded the v6.4 archive from Google Drive (142MB tar.gz, includes
.git) and confirmed the workspace had been rebuilt from a v6.0 snapshot
(v6.1–v6.4 commits missing — "nerfed again"). Restored with rsync
(--delete, excluding node_modules/.next/dev.log/upload mount), verified
git log shows v6.1→v6.4 commits, bun install + prisma generate, dev
server up on 3000, lint clean.
- FAVICON: public/logo.svg rewritten as the simple OVE logo mark (yellow
rounded square + deep royal-purple audio-waveform wave, matching the
header logo block under the default theme). tools/gen-favicon.ts —
dependency-free rasterizer (SDF supersampling + hand-rolled PNG encoder
via node:zlib) — generates public/favicon-16.png, favicon-32.png and
apple-touch-icon.png (180). layout.tsx metadata now references the PNGs
(+ SVG).
- THEME SYSTEM (two independent axes, per-visitor, browser-local):
- BASE via next-themes class on <html>: 'purple' (v6.4 default),
'matte' (neutral matte black), 'outline' (pure black + accent-tinted
outlines via --accent-border), 'light' (white). globals.css remaps the
zinc ramp + neutral semantic tokens per base; @custom-variant dark now
matches any dark base.
- ACCENT via data-accent attribute: 6 blocks (purple/yellow/blue/green/
red/orange) own the emerald-* highlight ramp, --primary/--ring,
chart-1, --accent-rgb (glow utilities) and --accent-border(-strong);
.light[data-accent=…] blocks deepen 300/400/500 + rgb for white bg.
- layout.tsx boot script (runs before next-themes' script): remaps a
stored v6.3/v6.4 'dark' theme to 'purple' and applies the stored
accent (allowlisted) pre-paint. ThemeProvider: defaultTheme="purple",
themes=[purple,matte,outline,light].
- src/lib/theme.ts (new): base/accent metadata + swatches, applyAccent()
(localStorage 'ove.theme.accent' + data-accent attr), getStoredDarkBase/
storeDarkBase ('ove.theme.darkBase') for the header tick.
- header.tsx ThemeToggle: flipping left now returns to the visitor's
selected dark base (was hardcoded 'dark').
- settings-tab.tsx (new): "Appearance" section — 4 base-theme preview
cards (static base swatch + live accent chip) and 6 highlight dots with
check + ring on selection; picking "Black + Purple Outline" also pairs
the purple highlight (its signature look); Reset to defaults button;
footnote that the Native tab is parked. Accent state via
useSyncExternalStore + MutationObserver on data-accent (no
setState-in-effect — satisfies the new react-hooks lint rule).
- control-panel.tsx: Settings takes the 5th tab slot; NativeTab is parked
behind NATIVE_TAB_ENABLED=false (flip to restore — tab row auto-widens
to 6 cols; component + /api/rust-scaffold untouched).
- version.ts → 6.5 (title/footer stamps follow).
- VERIFIED with agent-browser (desktop 1440×900 + mobile 390×844), VLM
screenshots at each step: Settings tab renders (Royal Purple selected,
Yellow checked); Matte Black = neutral black, no purple tint; Green
accent recolors Set Beat/BPM/tab underline; Black + Purple Outline =
pure black bg + dark purple borders + purple highlights (auto-paired);
Light = white with deep readable accents (purple and green both
tested); tick switch flips light ↔ last dark base; reload persists
(theme + accent in localStorage); simulated v6.4 visitor (stored
'dark') lands on purple+yellow; favicons 200 (16/32/180/svg); mobile
no horizontal scroll, footer flush at bottom with "version 6.5"; zero
console/page errors; dev.log clean; bun run lint clean.
Stage Summary:
- Project is back at v6.4 + the three requested v6.5 features: (1) simple
OVE logo as favicon (PNG set + SVG), (2) Native tab parked
non-destructively behind a flag, replaced by (3) a Settings tab whose
theme picker offers Matte Black and Black + Purple Outline dark themes
(plus Royal Purple and Light) with a selectable Purple/Yellow/Blue/
Green/Red/Orange highlight/outline color. Everything per-visitor
(localStorage only). Returning v6.4 visitors are migrated seamlessly
('dark' → 'purple' base, same look). Committed as
"v6.5 — Settings tab with theme picker + OVE logo favicon; Native tab parked".

Task ID: 2-a
Agent: full-stack-developer
Task: v6.7 part A (server) — lazy-queue anti-spam groundwork + music-service
framework: yt-dlp concurrency semaphore in /api/resolve, coming-soon provider
registry (Spotify / Apple Music), streamStatus metadata, "soon" badges in
Settings.
Work Log:
- src/lib/music-services.ts — added `export type StreamStatus = 'live' |
'coming-soon'` and `streamStatus: StreamStatus` (+ optional
`comingSoonNote`) to ServiceDef. youtube/soundcloud → 'live'; spotify/apple
→ 'coming-soon' with visitor-facing notes ("…coming in a later update —
your saved login will be used automatically the moment it ships.
Meanwhile, YouTube, SoundCloud and direct-file links work today."). All
existing fields/exports untouched (client imports keep working); header
comment now documents the framework pointer.
- src/lib/server/music-providers.ts (NEW) — server-side provider registry:
ProviderAdapter interface (id: ServiceId|'generic', label, status,
comingSoonNote, handlesUrl(url), + commented v6.8+ extension points
resolveTrack/listPlaylist). Exports YTDLP_PROVIDER (generic catch-all,
live), SPOTIFY_PROVIDER + APPLE_PROVIDER (coming-soon, domain match via
the same host/subdomain rules as serviceForUrl but scoped to one service),
providerForUrl(url) (service adapter on domain match, else yt-dlp).
Status-agnostic on purpose: flipping an adapter to 'live' keeps it owning
its URLs at the route's dispatch point. Thorough "HOW TO SHIP A NEW
SERVICE (v6.8+)" header comment documents the 3-step recipe (implement
adapter methods → flip streamStatus/status to 'live' → extend the marked
dispatch spot in the route; payload shapes spelled out).
- src/app/api/resolve/route.ts —
(a) coming-soon dispatch right after the SSRF gate, BEFORE
cache/direct-audio/yt-dlp: providerForUrl(target.href); status
'coming-soon' → 422 { ok:false, code:'coming-soon', service, error:
note }. Spotify/Apple links now NEVER spawn yt-dlp. Dropped the DRM
parenthetical from the generic "That site is not supported" 422.
(b) anti-spam semaphore: globalThis-backed YtdlpSemaphore
(YTDLP_MAX_CONCURRENCY=2, YTDLP_QUEUE_TIMEOUT_MS=40_000), FIFO waiters,
direct slot handoff in release(). Acquire wrapped around runYtDlp with a
`held` flag; release exactly once in the finally (busy 503 "The resolver
is busy right now — try again in a moment."; timed-out waiters never
double-release — queue-membership is the single source of truth, a
timeout on an already-granted waiter is a no-op). Cache hits and
direct-file links bypass the gate. Route header comment documents both
behaviors. Also fixed a pre-existing strict-type bug in buildCookieParts
(pairs was string[], pushed [string, string] tuples → now
[string,string][]; runtime behavior unchanged).
- src/components/ava/settings-tab.tsx — Music services chips: tiny amber
"soon" badge (bg-amber-400/15, text-amber-300, 8px uppercase) inside
coming-soon chips so visitors SEE those services arrive later. Nothing
else changed; login buttons stay fully functional (logins are saved ahead
of support — that's the framework).
- VERIFICATION: bun run lint clean; tsc --noEmit clean for all four files.
Live curl against the dev server: spotify track/playlist → 422
coming-soon (6ms, no yt-dlp); apple album → 422 coming-soon; SSRF gate
still fires first (localhost → 400); direct MP3 → 200 bypass; spotify
with cookies → still coming-soon before cookie staging; real YouTube
resolve passes through the semaphore → bot-wall 422 mapped as before.
Semaphore logic scratch-tested (cap/FIFO/timeout/handoff/no-leak, all
pass) AND end-to-end: 6 concurrent resolves of the same YouTube link →
ps snapshots show at most 2 top-level bin/yt-dlp processes at any moment
(extra PIDs are the onefile binary's own self-exec children), queued
requests ran in FIFO batches (~2s each wave, 6.2s/6.6s total for the
last two), zero 503s, dev.log clean of errors.
- NOTE for lead: apple.com (not just music.apple.com) is in the apple
ServiceDef domains, so ALL apple.com links (e.g. podcasts.apple.com) now
get the Apple Music coming-soon answer instead of a yt-dlp attempt —
consistent with the client-side service matching, but podcasts links
that yt-dlp's ApplePodcasts extractor could handle now report
coming-soon. Say the word if you'd rather scope the apple adapter to
music.apple.com only.
- Pre-existing/other-agent tsc errors (NOT mine, untouched):
examples/websocket/* (missing socket.io deps),
src/app/api/rust-scaffold/route.ts (Uint8Array vs BodyInit),
src/components/ava/audio-source.ts ('never' narrowing — concurrent
agent's WIP).
Stage Summary:
- Anti-spam guarantee in place: the server can never run more than 2
concurrent yt-dlp extractions regardless of how many visitors resolve at
once; surplus requests FIFO-queue ≤40s then get an honest 503.
- Music-service framework in place: Spotify/Apple links get a clean
"coming in a later update" answer (422 code:'coming-soon' + service id)
with zero extractor spawns; the adapter registry + documented recipe
makes shipping real support a 3-step local change; Settings shows amber
"soon" badges while logins are already being saved ahead of support.

Task ID: 17
Agent: main (Z.ai Code)
Task: v6.7 — lazy playlist queue (anti-spam) + music-service framework
(Spotify/Apple Music registered as coming-soon providers)
Work Log:
- USER DIRECTIVE (session start): playlist links must NEVER download/resolve
all songs at once — build a queue of URLs and let yt-dlp fetch each song
only as needed right before it plays (no YouTube temp bans). Services
yt-dlp can't support (Spotify/Apple Music) get the framework now with a
visible "later update" message.
- Task 2-a (subagent, full-stack-developer): music-services.ts gained
streamStatus 'live'|'coming-soon' + comingSoonNote; NEW
src/lib/server/music-providers.ts provider registry (YTDLP_PROVIDER
catch-all + SPOTIFY/APPLE coming-soon adapters, documented v6.8+ extension
recipe); /api/resolve dispatches coming-soon BEFORE yt-dlp (422
{code:'coming-soon', service, error}) and gained a globalThis semaphore
(max 2 concurrent yt-dlp extractions, FIFO, 40s wait → 503); Settings tab
chips show amber "SOON" badges; also fixed a pre-existing strict-typing
bug in buildCookieParts.
- Task 1 (audio.ts): startUrl(url, title, {loop?}) — queue tracks play with
loop:false so 'ended' fires; onTrackEnded callback (guarded to the current
element); positionSec/durationSec getters for the look-ahead.
- Task 2-c (audio-source.ts): playResolvedTrack opts {loop}; resolveLink
returns code/service from the coming-soon JSON; setSourceRetireListener
hook — demo/mic/file/stop all retire an active queue (module graph stays
acyclic: queue → audio-source, never back).
- Task 2-b (NEW src/lib/ava/queue.ts): lazy queue controller + zustand
store. Generation token invalidates late async results; ALL client
resolves serialized through a promise chain; look-ahead preloads ONLY
index+1 within the last 15s of the current track (unknown duration →
advance on 'ended'); failure policy = skip a dead track, 2 consecutive
failures pause with Retry (a 182-track dead playlist can't grind the
resolver); autoplay NotAllowedError → 'blocked' status + Resume; public
API startQueue/stopQueue/queueNext/queuePrev/queueJump/replayQueue.
BUG FOUND IN VERIFICATION: retire listener called stopQueueInternal()
without resetting the store → bar never hid on Demo start; fixed to call
stopQueue().
- Task 2-d (NEW src/components/ava/queue-bar.tsx + page.tsx): slim strip
under the header — playlist title, x/y badge, status chip (fetching / next
up ready / finished / paused / stopped), prev/next/expand/stop, Resume /
Retry / Replay CTAs, expandable track list (max-h-64, thin scrollbar,
current row highlighted, click to jump) + lazy-fetch footnote.
- Task 2-e (link-dialog.tsx): playlist view now has "Play all — lazy queue"
and per-entry start-from-here; Spotify/Apple links are intercepted
client-side with an amber coming-soon panel (brand dot, note, "Open
Settings" shortcut — zero network requests, confirmed in dev.log);
server 422 is the backstop; single-track plays retire the queue first.
- version.ts → 6.7.
- FIXED 6 pre-existing strict-typing errors (tsc now 0 app errors):
resolveLink `as typeof data` never-narrowing (named ResolveResponse),
audio.ts/music-sessions.ts Uint8Array<ArrayBuffer> DOM typing,
rust-scaffold zip → arraybuffer, script.ts meta ?? null, user-presets
UserResult conditional-type + folder-rename 80-char limit actually
enforced (was silently ignored).
- FIXED pre-existing 4px "Import/Export .zip" label clip in the presets
details card (VLM caught it): the shadcn sm variant's has-[>svg]:px-2.5
out-specifies plain px-*; buttons now has-[>svg]:px-2 + text-xs.
- VERIFIED with agent-browser (desktop 1440×900 + mobile 390×844):
Spotify link → coming-soon panel, NO /api/resolve request; archive.org
playlist (slack_sfx, 11 tracks 0.4–2.2s) → picker → Play all → queue bar
auto-advanced through ALL 11 tracks (dev.log shows perfect alternating
resolve→stream, one at a time) → finished + Replay works; jump via list
click, prev/next, Stop clears the bar; YouTube playlist (182 entries,
bot-walled tracks from this datacenter IP) → skip → 2-strike pause with
Retry (never grinds 182 tracks); Demo click retires the queue (after the
fix); Settings SOON badges only on Spotify/Apple; mobile: no horizontal
scroll, queue bar wraps cleanly, footer pushed naturally; light + dark
themes clean (VLM: CLEAN ×4 + presets fix CLEAN); zero page errors,
console clean, dev.log clean, bun run lint clean, tsc 0 app errors.
Stage Summary:
- v6.7 shipped: playlist links become lazy queues that stream ONE song at a
time (each resolved by yt-dlp only right before it plays, ≤1 look-ahead,
client resolves serialized + server max-2-extraction semaphore — the
anti-temp-ban guarantee the user demanded). Spotify/Apple Music are now
registered framework providers with honest "coming in a later update"
messaging everywhere (Link dialog, Settings badges, API), logins already
save ahead of support. E2E-verified with real playback on archive.org
(direct files) and real failure handling on YouTube bot-walls.

Task ID: 18
Agent: main (Z.ai Code)
Task: v6.8 — self-healing / self-updating yt-dlp + honest failure feedback
("Updating in Background", backend-problem message, Google-login bot-wall
message with Settings action)
Work Log:
- USER DIRECTIVE: when a song fails because YouTube changed their
mechanics, the server must auto-update yt-dlp on the back end, tell the
visitor "Updating in Background", then retry the song seamlessly; if the
grab+play still fails → "A back-end problem has occurred. Please try
again later."; bot-detection blocks → "Google login required. Check the
[Settings] tab to login, then try again."
- Confirmed workspace already at v6.7 (version.ts + queue.ts/queue-bar/
music-providers present) — no Drive restore needed.
- Probed update mechanics on this box: `yt-dlp -U` is useless here
(GitHub API 403 rate-limited from this IP), but the release ASSET
redirect (github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp/releases/latest/download/yt-dlp_linux)
downloads fine (41 MB, ~4-8 s) → self-update uses direct asset download.
- NEW src/lib/server/ytdlp-selfupdate.ts: globalThis-backed update state
(dev-reload safe — the running closure keeps writing the SAME state
object a reloaded module reads), triggerYtdlpUpdate() fire-and-forget
(claim is synchronous → no double runs), runUpdate(): probe old version
→ fetch latest asset (180 s cap) → size gate 10–120 MB → ELF magic
check → stage bin/yt-dlp.new 0755 → prove it runs (--version probe) →
same version = no-op (nothing shipped), newer = atomic rename() swap
(running extractions keep the old inode) → 6 h cooldown after every
run + ytdlpUpdateRunning()/ytdlpUpdateCooldownActive() predicates +
[ytdlp-selfupdate] console logs for dev.log observability.
- src/app/api/resolve/route.ts: STALE_EXTRACTOR_RE (nsig/signature
extraction failed, unable to extract yt initial data / initial player
response / player id, unable to find handler function, python
tracebacks/AttributeError/KeyError/…, expected string or bytes-like
object, object has no attribute / is not subscriptable, no video
formats, requested format is not available, player response is not
valid) → staleExtractorResponse(): update running OR cooldown inactive →
trigger + 503 {code:'ytdlp-updating', Retry-After:10}; cooldown active
(update already ran / shipped nothing) → 500 {code:'backend-error',
error:'A back-end problem has occurred. Please try again later.'}.
BOT_WALL_RE branch now answers 422 {code:'bot-wall'} with
botWallMessage(): YouTube hosts → exact "Google login required. Check
the Settings tab to login, then try again." (+ "saved login may have
expired" suffix when cookies were attached); other services → generic
Settings guidance. v6.8 header doc.
- src/components/ava/audio-source.ts: resolveLink gained ResolveOpts
{onUpdating} + an automatic retry loop for 'ytdlp-updating' — ONE
"Updating in Background" toast (4 s wait, then every 8 s, ≤14 retries ≈
2 min patience), "Audio engine updated — playing your song now." toast
when a retry finally resolves, exhaustion/errand codes → synthetic
backend-error. New exported ResolveErrorCode ('coming-soon' |
'bot-wall' | 'backend-error'). resolveOnce() helper (never throws).
- src/lib/ava/queue.ts: QueueState + lastErrorCode + updating; resolveEntry
wires onUpdating → setQueue({updating:true}) (reset on settle) and
returns the failure code; handleTrackFailure(reason, code) surfaces the
REAL reason in the paused state instead of the generic sentence.
- src/components/ava/queue-bar.tsx: "updating engine…" amber chip (outranks
"fetching" on loading and "next up ready" on playing look-ahead),
"Updating in Background — … your music resumes in a moment." message
while the CURRENT track waits on the update, and an "Open Settings"
button beside Retry when lastErrorCode === 'bot-wall' (switches to the
Settings tab where the service logins live).
- src/components/ava/link-dialog.tsx: errorCode state; bot-wall failures
render the message + "Open Settings to log in, then try again" action;
the generic login tip is suppressed for bot-wall (message already says
it) and backend-error (fixed wording).
- src/lib/version.ts → 6.8 + history note.
- VERIFICATION (bun run lint clean, tsc --noEmit 0 app errors):
- curl E2E with a FAKE stale binary (prints "nsig extraction failed"
+ traceback, --version → 2024.01.01): POST resolve → 503
ytdlp-updating in 146 ms; background update ran for real:
"[ytdlp-selfupdate] updated yt-dlp 2024.01.01 → 2026.10.26 in 5.7s";
the FOLLOWING resolve with the real new binary → 200 + a working
stream (639 KB audio/webm through the proxy) — the self-heal
genuinely fixed playback.
- cooldown path (fake again, uncached URL) → 500 backend-error with
the exact spec message, zero re-download.
- bot-wall paths with a fake walled binary: YouTube → "Google login
required. Check the Settings tab to login, then try again."; with
cookies attached → + expired-login hint; SoundCloud host → generic
Settings guidance.
- agent-browser E2E (desktop 1440×900 + mobile 390×844): dialog shows
"A back-end problem has occurred. Please try again later." inline
(role=alert) on cooldown; full self-heal flow: stale binary → Load →
"Updating in Background" toast (DOM-verified at t+1.5 s; a11y
snapshots scope to the open modal, so the toast needed eval/screenshot
evidence) → dialog stays Loading through the retries → update lands →
retry resolves → dialog closes, "Never Gonna Give You Up" PLAYING
(SRC: LINK, visualizer 59 FPS, recents updated). Queue bar: real
YouTube playlist ("Popular Music Videos", 182 entries — its first
tracks genuinely bot-walled from this datacenter IP) → 2-strike pause
with "Google login required…" in the bar + Open Settings button →
click lands on Settings tab → Music services → YouTube login.
Mobile: no horizontal scroll; console clean; dev.log clean.
- ops note: dev-server restarts need the orphan pattern
`( setsid bun run dev </dev/null >/dev/null 2>&1 & )` — plain
nohup/& gets reaped between tool commands.
- Final state: bin/yt-dlp = 2026.10.26 (self-healed during testing, newer
than the 2026.10.21 that shipped with the workspace), server running,
queue stopped, source idle.
Stage Summary:
- v6.8 shipped: the resolver is now self-healing. Stale-extractor
signatures trigger a verified, atomic, cooldown-gated background
yt-dlp update (direct GitHub release asset — `yt-dlp -U` is API
rate-limited here); visitors see "Updating in Background" while the
client transparently retries (~2 min patience), and playback resumes
seamlessly when the new binary lands (proven live: 2024.01.01 fake →
2026.10.26 real → song playing in the browser). Bot walls answer the
exact "Google login required. Check the Settings tab to login, then try
again." with an Open Settings action (dialog + queue bar), and
unfixable failures get the honest "A back-end problem has occurred.
Please try again later." — every message the user specified is in and
browser-verified.

Task ID: 19
Agent: main (Z.ai Code)
Task: v6.8.1 — cookie login made foolproof (answer to the user's
"how do I get the cookie / is LOGIN_INFO enough?" question): live paste
validation, three accepted paste formats, easier how-to steps
Work Log:
- USER QUESTION: they found the DevTools Storage tab cookie list (no
"Request Headers" in sight — they are on Firefox) and asked whether
pasting the LOGIN_INFO cookie's VALUE alone would work. Answer: no —
a working YouTube login for yt-dlp is the full ~20-cookie set
(SID/HSID/SSID/SAPISID/__Secure-3PSID/LOGIN_INFO/…), and a bare value
isn't even a NAME=VALUE pair. Built the fix into the app so the dialog
itself teaches this.
- src/lib/music-services.ts (shared, pure):
(a) NEW cookie-paste toolkit: parseCookiePaste() recognizes raw
Cookie headers, Netscape cookies.txt exports AND Cookie-Editor JSON
exports (never throws; first '=' splits pairs so base64 '=' padding
survives); validateCookiePaste() counts cookies and lists the missing
critical ones per service (criticalCookies: youtube = SID, HSID, SSID,
SAPISID, __Secure-3PSID, LOGIN_INFO; soundcloud = oauth_token; spotify
= sp_dc); cookiePasteToNetscape() produces the yt-dlp cookies.txt body
+ stream-proxy header (raw headers scoped to the service domain; JSON
entries keep their domain only when it belongs to the service —
foreign-site entries dropped; netscape exports pass through with all
domains + real expiries).
(b) steps rewritten via cookieSteps() helper: extension-first ("Get
cookies.txt LOCALLY" Chrome/Edge/Brave, "cookies.txt" Firefox), then
the DevTools Network path with the gotchas that lost the user (the
request list stays empty until you reload with the tab open; the
cookie: row lives under "Request Headers"), and a last step that says
a working login is the FULL set, never a single cookie.
- src/components/ava/service-login-dialog.tsx: LIVE validation box
under the paste area (aria-live=polite, warn-never-block): green
"N cookies detected (format) — looks like a complete X login", amber
"N cookies detected, but a working X login is still missing: SID, …",
red "No cookies detected — it looks like a single cookie's value" (the
exact LOGIN_INFO mistake). Placeholder + tip now mention cookies.txt /
JSON exports.
- src/app/api/resolve/route.ts: local buildCookieParts/cookieToken
DELETED — stageCookies now calls the shared cookiePasteToNetscape(), so
the dialog's validation and the server's staging can never disagree
(and the server now accepts JSON exports too). Route doc updated.
- src/lib/version.ts → 6.8.1 + history note.
- VERIFIED: bun run lint clean; tsc --noEmit 0 app errors. Bun unit
tests of the parser: user's exact LOGIN_INFO value → format unknown /
0 cookies / staging null; LOGIN_INFO=<v> → 1 cookie, 5 critical
missing; full 17-cookie header → looksGood + 18-line netscape; mixed
cookies.txt → youtube-only header, .google.com line kept in file;
Cookie-Editor JSON with a foreign .soundcloud.com entry → dropped from
both netscape AND header; soundcloud oauth_token-only paste →
looksGood. agent-browser E2E (1440×900 + 390×844): all five dialog
states DOM-verified (red / amber-with-names / green header / green
JSON / green cookies.txt), save → "Logged in to YouTube / YouTube
Music" toast + chip, log out → "removed from this browser"; VLM visual
checks CLEAN (5-step list readable, red + green boxes readable, no
overlap/clipping, mobile no horizontal scroll); curl POST /api/resolve
with a JSON cookie payload → 200 (yt-dlp accepted the staged file — it
hard-fails on malformed cookie files); dev.log clean throughout;
automation browser left logged-out.
Stage Summary:
- v6.8.1 shipped: the login dialog now meets the visitor where they are.
Whatever they manage to copy — the full Cookie header, a cookies.txt
export, a Cookie-Editor JSON, or (as the user tried) a single
cookie's value from the Storage tab — the box recognizes it and tells
the truth about whether it can log them in, with the easiest
acquisition path (one-click extension export) documented first for
both Chrome and Firefox. One shared parser powers both the live
validation and the server's transient yt-dlp staging.

Task: v6.8.2 — answer "can't we use the official Google OAuth login?" + cut
login friction to ~4 clicks (drag & drop / file-import the cookie export)
Work Log:
- USER QUESTION: why not the official flow — Google login page, consent
screen for openvisualengine.com, revocable from Google Security
Settings — instead of extensions / copy-paste? ANSWER (researched, no
code): no on three independent grounds:
(1) TECHNICAL: OAuth tokens only call Google's documented APIs, and the
YouTube Data API deliberately never returns media stream URLs — the
actual audio (googlevideo.com) is only reachable by the innertube/page
scrape yt-dlp does, which authenticates with the browser cookie jar.
yt-dlp upstream supports cookies only for YouTube (the community
oauth2 plugin requires EACH USER to register their own Google Cloud
OAuth client — the opposite of easier).
(2) POLICY: the consent screen the user described is gated behind
Google verification; YouTube scopes are RESTRICTED (annual security
assessment, public audit form) and YouTube API ToS forbid playing
content outside the official player — an audio-visualizer streamer
would be rejected/terminated. Unverified "Testing" mode: scary
"unverified app" interstitial, 100-user cap, refresh tokens silently
expire every 7 days — logins would break weekly.
(3) ARCHITECTURE/PRIVACY: our current design never stores credentials
server-side (AES-GCM in the visitor's browser, transient use); an
OAuth backend must hold everyone's refresh tokens in one database —
bigger blast radius, and one Google ban locks out every user at once.
Revocation parity explained in the dialog: "Log out" removes it
instantly; signing out of YouTube invalidates the cookie everywhere.
- src/components/ava/service-login-dialog.tsx (v6.8.2):
(a) the paste box is now a DROP ZONE — dragover (files only; text
drags keep native behavior) shows an emerald ring + centered overlay
"Drop the exported cookies.txt / JSON file — it fills this box
automatically."; onDrop reads the first file (≤256 KB gate) via
file.text() into the paste area where the v6.8.1 live validation
reacts. dragleave uses relatedTarget containment so child transitions
don't flicker the ring.
(b) "Import the exported file…" outline button + sr-only file input
(accept .txt/.json, tabIndex -1 + aria-hidden so the a11y tree keeps
a single import control), value reset after pick so the same file can
be re-picked; busy-guarded.
(c) placeholder + tip updated ("paste, drop or import whichever you
have"); security note now ends with the revocation sentence.
- src/lib/music-services.ts: step 2 of the how-to now ends "…choose
Export — then drag the downloaded file straight into the box below (no
need to open or copy anything)."
- src/lib/version.ts → 6.8.2 + history note (including the OAuth
rationale in one line).
- VERIFIED: bun run lint clean; tsc --noEmit 0 app errors.
agent-browser E2E: dragover dispatch → overlay text in DOM + VLM
visual CLEAN (emerald ring + overlay message, no overlap); File-drop
dispatch (cookies.txt with 6 youtube cookies) → textarea filled +
green "6 cookies detected (cookies.txt export) — looks like a complete
YouTube login"; file-input change dispatch (Cookie-Editor JSON) →
green "JSON export"; save → "Logged in to YouTube / YouTube Music"
toast; "Log out of all" → "removed from this browser"; hidden input
no longer duplicated in the a11y tree; dev.log clean.
Stage Summary:
- v6.8.2 shipped: the login flow is now: install exporter (once) →
youtube.com → click Export → drag the file onto the box → Log in —
four clicks, no opening files, no copying. The official OAuth path is
documented as impossible for this site (no stream URLs via Google
APIs, restricted-scope verification would reject an audio player,
server-side token hoarding is worse for privacy) — cookies stay the
engine's only authentication route, and the dialog now teaches the
easiest cookie acquisition path end-to-end.

Task ID: 21
Agent: main (Z.ai Code)
Task: v6.9 — house account: anonymous visitors play YouTube through the
operator's shared disposable-account cookie (server-side fallback), plus the
Deno/EJS runtime fix that made cookie-authenticated extraction work at all
Work Log:
- USER DIRECTIVE: use their disposable Google account's cookies.txt (Google
Drive link) as a SERVER-SIDE shared credential so visitors who never log
in can still play YouTube links (no bot walls for guests).
- Downloaded the export from Drive (7.9 KB, yt-dlp-format Netscape file),
validated structure WITHOUT exposing contents: 49 cookies, full Google
auth set (SID/HSID/SSID/SAPISID/__Secure-1PSID/__Secure-3PSID/LOGIN_INFO/
SIDCC/both PAPISIDs/PSIDTS), 1 trailing blank line (harmless), 5 expired
entries all non-critical (CONSISTENCY, ST-* tokens) → installed at
secrets/house-youtube-cookies.txt (chmod 600; secrets/ is never served).
- CRITICAL ENGINE DISCOVERY: with a VALID cookie, yt-dlp got ZERO media
formats (storyboards only → "Requested format is not available") on every
player client, while the same video anonymously bot-walled or (some
videos) resolved. Root cause (yt-dlp's own warnings, previously hidden by
--no-warnings): "Signature solving failed / n challenge solving failed:
Ensure you have a supported JavaScript runtime and challenge solver
script distribution installed … refer to EJS". Authenticated sessions go
through web-family clients whose URLs need signature/n-challenge solving;
that requires a JS RUNTIME (EJS). The yt-dlp_linux binary bundles the
solver SCRIPTS but no runtime. FIX: installed Deno 2.9.8 to bin/deno
(GitHub release asset, same download channel as the self-update) and
spawn yt-dlp with the project bin/ prepended to PATH (ytdlpEnv()).
After the fix: house-cookie extraction of the anonymously-bot-walled
Despacito → full opus stream URL. This also un-breaks VISITOR logins
with real accounts (v6.6–6.8.2 testing used invalid demo cookies that
silently fell back to anonymous — real ones would have hit this wall).
- NEW src/lib/server/house-cookies.ts: houseCookiePath/ houseCookieText()
(mtime+size cached on globalThis — replacing the file swaps the account
live, no restart; 256 KB cap; any paste format accepted since the shared
parser normalizes), houseCookieStatus() (presence booleans only).
- src/app/api/resolve/route.ts:
(a) NEW GET /api/resolve → { ok, house: { youtube: true, … } } (no
contents, Cache-Control no-store) for the Settings/dialog hints.
(b) POST: house fallback staging — visitor's own cookie always wins;
else if serviceForUrl(link) has a house file → stageCookies(houseText)
through the SAME transient 0600 pipeline (never logged, never stored);
'[house-cookie] staged for <service>' log line for observability.
(c) cache key gains '|house' (a house resolve can succeed where '|anon'
bot-walls).
(d) botWallMessage(target, usedCookie, houseCookie): house-cookie bot
walls get an honest suffix (shared account hit a usage limit — retry
later or log in with your own account); visitor-cookie walls keep the
expired-login hint; no-cookie walls keep the exact v6.8 spec message.
(e) runYtDlp spawns with env PATH including bin/ (Deno) — see above.
- src/components/ava/settings-tab.tsx: fetches GET /api/resolve; when
house services exist shows an emerald note under Music services
("Built-in account active — YouTube links play for everyone, no login
needed. Log in only to reach your own playlists, liked music and
uploads."); passes houseServices to the login dialog.
- src/components/ava/service-login-dialog.tsx: new houseServices prop;
when the selected service has a house account, an emerald note in the
help box ("A built-in account is already active for this service —
links play for everyone. Your own login adds your playlists, liked
music and uploads on top.").
- src/lib/version.ts → 6.9 + history note.
- VERIFIED: bun run lint clean; tsc --noEmit 0 app errors. CLI matrix
(5 player clients × anon/house) proved the cookie authenticates
everywhere but formats need Deno; after Deno: anonymous-API resolve of
Despacito (bot-walled for guests before) → 200 "Luis Fonsi - Despacito
ft. Daddy Yankee" in 4.2 s with '[house-cookie] staged for youtube' in
dev.log; stream proxy served 206 partials of genuine audio/webm (64 KB
verified); Rick Astley house path 200; SoundCloud pure-anon path
unchanged (one track's HLS/DASH answer is the pre-existing adaptive
limitation, not a regression); GET /api/resolve → { youtube: true }.
agent-browser E2E: Settings shows the built-in-account note (DOM
verified), login dialog shows the hint (DOM + VLM CLEAN), full golden
path — anonymous Link of Despacito → resolve 200 → stream 206 → SRC:
LINK + title + 60 FPS render loop (same state as the audible Demo
source; footer PTS is a points counter, not a playhead), console clean,
dev.log clean, playback stopped after the test (SRC: IDLE).
- OPERATIONAL NOTES for the lead: (1) the house cookie expires when
Google rotates it / the account signs out — replace
secrets/house-youtube-cookies.txt (same format) and the mtime cache
picks it up live; (2) ALL anonymous visitors now share ONE account —
the max-2-extraction semaphore keeps the request rate sane, but heavy
traffic concentrates on that account (the honest bot-wall suffix
covers the day it gets limited); (3) signing the disposable account
out anywhere invalidates the file.
Stage Summary:
- v6.9 shipped: guests press Link on a YouTube URL and it just plays —
the server silently uses the operator's disposable account when the
visitor has none of their own (visitor logins still win; SoundCloud and
direct links unchanged). The invisible blocker discovered on the way —
YouTube requiring a JS runtime (Deno/EJS) for signature solving on
authenticated sessions — is fixed for house AND visitor logins alike,
and the UI tells everyone the built-in account is active, so logging in
is now clearly optional (for your own playlists) instead of required
(to hear anything at all).

Agent: main (Z.ai Code)
Task: Social share preview — when openvisualengine.com is shared on Facebook (and other social platforms), show a large image preview card using the operator's provided screenshot.
Work Log:
- Confirmed current project is already v6.9 (house-account feature, Task 21) — no need to import the Drive project archive; the user-provided archive was for version verification only.
- Downloaded the preview image from Drive (file id 1jxZg7FuZCNz0V_rKTlJW_eNnntA77xJ5): JPEG 1120x630, 160 KB, 300 DPI — a clean full-app screenshot (trefoil particle visualization, preset library, BPM display, black/neon-green theme).
- Facebook's optimal og:image is 1200x630; at 1120x630 the feed container would center-crop ~7% vertically (clipping the logo bar and footer status line). Padded the image to exactly 1200x630 with pure-black side bars (40 px each) via PIL — seamless against the screenshot's black background; saved as public/og-image.jpg (quality 92, progressive, 87 KB). VLM verified: no visible seams/bars, all UI fully visible.
- Checked robots.txt: facebookexternalhit and Twitterbot already allowed (v-eralier). No pre-existing OG/Twitter tags in the app.
- src/app/layout.tsx: added SITE_URL const + metadataBase: new URL('https://openvisualengine.com') (social crawlers require ABSOLUTE image URLs — Next resolves the relative /og-image.jpg against this base) and openGraph block (type website, url, siteName, title "OVE — Open Visualization Engine" — version-free for a clean card, description, images with width 1200 / height 630 / descriptive alt) + twitter block (card summary_large_image, title, description, images).
- src/lib/version.ts → 6.9.1 + history note.
- VERIFIED: bun run lint clean; tsc --noEmit only the 2 pre-existing examples/ demo errors (no app errors); curl of / shows all 13 og:/twitter: meta tags with absolute URLs (og:image → https://openvisualengine.com/og-image.jpg, og:image:width/height 1200/630); GET /og-image.jpg → 200 image/jpeg 86947 B; agent-browser E2E: page renders (title "OVE — Open Visualization Engine (v6.9.1)"), Demo → render loop ran (FPS 54) → Stop → SRC: IDLE, footer shows version 6.9.1; dev.log clean.
- Investigated the "1 Issue" console badge: one hydration-mismatch warning in PresetsTab (Framer Motion initial opacity SSR vs client) — proven PRE-EXISTING in the committed v6.9 code by stashing this task's changes and reproducing it on the clean tree; NOT caused by this change (metadata is head-only, doesn't hydrate). Left as-is (cosmetic-only, React recovers; fix belongs to a future polish task if desired).
Stage Summary:
- v6.9.1 shipped: sharing openvisualengine.com on Facebook/X/WhatsApp/Discord/Telegram now renders the large image card — the operator's OVE screenshot padded to the exact 1200x630 spec (full top logo bar + footer preserved, no crop), with og:title "OVE — Open Visualization Engine", a club-oriented description, and summary_large_image on X. The image lives at public/og-image.jpg (87 KB) and all crawler requirements are met (absolute URL, dimensions declared, robots.txt allows facebookexternalhit/Twitterbot).
- OPERATIONAL NOTES for the lead: (1) Facebook caches previews aggressively — after deploying this build, run the URL through Meta's Sharing Debugger (developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/) once and press "Scrape Again" to refresh the cache; (2) the card text can be tuned any time in the layout.tsx openGraph/twitter blocks without touching the image; (3) the pre-existing PresetsTab hydration warning is documented above and is not related to this feature.

Task: Fix Facebook Sharing Debugger "Corrupted image" error on og:image + swap in the operator's new share image (Drive id 1cle1xJ8vBKC5bKE0azcGRxMy9nG8D9ky).
Work Log:
- Diagnosed the "could not be processed as an image" error: the v6.9.1 og-image.jpg was encoded as PROGRESSIVE JPEG (the Drive source already was, and the PIL re-save preserved progressive=True). Every browser renders progressive JPEGs fine — which is why all local verification passed — but Facebook's image pipeline is stricter and classically rejects progressive encoding with exactly this "corrupted/invalid format" message. Not an operator error; an encoding choice made in Task 22.
- Tried to inspect the live production URL for confirmation but the sandbox cannot reach openvisualengine.com (external egress to that host fails); the error text itself (downloaded-but-unparseable, not 404/not-downloadable) matches the progressive-JPEG profile, and the file is provably valid JPEG otherwise.
- Downloaded the replacement image from Drive: JPEG 1199x630, 473 KB, ALSO progressive, 300 DPI — a title card (gradient OPEN VISUALIZATION ENGINE wordmark over spiral + particle + wireframe-sphere visualizations; VLM-verified content).
- Processed it: padded 1 px to exactly 1200x630 (invisible black column on the left edge) and re-encoded as BASELINE JPEG, quality 92, optimize, dpi=(72,72), no EXIF → public/og-image.jpg (223 KB). Verified via file: "baseline, precision 8, 1200x630"; PIL confirms progression=False.
- src/app/layout.tsx: og:image and twitter:image URLs now carry ?v=2 (cache-bust — Facebook caches og:image per-URL and has already blacklisted the old URL as corrupted; a new URL forces a fresh fetch), og:image:alt rewritten for the title-card artwork. Comment documents the bump-this-on-next-swap rule and the baseline-only lesson.
- src/lib/version.ts → 6.9.2 + history note.
- VERIFIED: lint clean; tsc clean (only the 2 pre-existing examples/ errors); served HTML shows og:image/twitter:image = https://openvisualengine.com/og-image.jpg?v=2 with 1200/630 dims + new alt; GET /og-image.jpg?v=2 → 200 image/jpeg 223493 B baseline; VLM confirms the card is clean (wordmark complete, no seams at the padded edge); page loads at v6.9.2 (footer), dev.log clean.
- Told the operator the required manual step: after the build is live, re-run Meta's Sharing Debugger and press "Scrape Again"; the ?v=2 param guarantees Facebook fetches the new baseline file instead of its cached verdict. Fallback documented if it ever still fails: re-encode as PNG (zero JPEG encoder variables).
Stage Summary:
- v6.9.2 shipped: the Facebook share card is fixed at the root cause — baseline JPEG encoding (progressive was the debugger-rejected culprit) — AND upgraded to the operator's title-card artwork (gradient wordmark over three visualizations) padded to the exact 1200x630 spec with a cache-busting ?v=2 URL so Facebook must fetch it fresh. Operator action required: Sharing Debugger → Scrape Again once the build is live.

Task: Root-cause the Facebook Sharing Debugger "corrupted image" report — user pasted https://openvisengine.com/ but Facebook was fetching https://openvisualengine.com/ URLs. Fix the canonical domain.
Work Log:
- User correction: the real domain is openvisengine.com (SHORT) — the long form "openvisualengine.com" I baked into v6.9.1 (from a stale conversation summary) is a DEAD domain. The worklog's own v6.2 entry had the correct domain all along.
- Probed both domains from the sandbox: openvisualengine.com — connection fails outright (serves nothing); openvisengine.com — live (nginx, 200). THIS is the true root cause of the Facebook error: production's og:image pointed at a URL on a dead host, Facebook's download failed, and the debugger reported it as "corrupted / invalid format". The Task 23 progressive-JPEG theory was a plausible secondary suspect but NOT the trigger (correction noted honestly — the baseline re-encode stays as hardening since it is strictly safer and the raw replacement artwork was also progressive).
- Inspected live production (openvisengine.com, reachable from sandbox): title "OVE — Open Visualization Engine (v6.9.1)" → v6.9.1 deployed; its tags advertise og:url/og:image = https://openvisualengine.com/... (dead domain) — exactly matching the user's debugger report. Also found the user had manually uploaded the RAW new title-card image to production /og-image.jpg (Content-Length 472938 = exact byte size of the raw Drive download; progressive JPEG 1199x630 — not the processed baseline 1200x630 from Task 23).
- Grep confirmed exactly ONE wrong-domain reference in live code: src/app/layout.tsx SITE_URL. Fixed it to https://openvisengine.com with a comment recording the lesson (correct short domain; 6.9.1/6.9.2 accidentally shipped the long form).
- src/lib/version.ts → 6.9.3 + history note.
- VERIFIED: lint clean; tsc clean (only pre-existing examples/ errors); dev server serves og:url = https://openvisengine.com, og:image = https://openvisengine.com/og-image.jpg?v=2 (1200x630 + title-card alt), twitter:image same; title shows v6.9.3; page loads, footer "version 6.9.3"; dev.log clean.
- Operator instructions: (1) deploy v6.9.3 — this BOTH fixes the domain in all share tags AND overwrites the raw progressive file the operator hand-uploaded with the Facebook-safe baseline 1200x630 version of the same artwork (public/og-image.jpg, 223 KB); (2) then run Meta Sharing Debugger on https://openvisengine.com/ and press "Scrape Again"; (3) the ?v=2 param makes the image URL brand-new to Facebook (its only previous fetch attempt was on the dead domain), so a fresh scrape is guaranteed to pull the new file.
Stage Summary:
- v6.9.3 shipped: the Facebook "corrupted image" mystery is fully solved — the share metadata pointed at a dead domain (openvisualengine.com) while the real site is openvisengine.com; all og:/twitter: URLs now use the correct domain, with the baseline-JPEG hardening and cache-bust from 6.9.2 retained. Deploying this build and re-scraping the debugger (openvisengine.com) should finally render the big title-card preview.

Task: Zai-Magic — author ten unique presets under root/embedded/Zai-Magic that move with the music AND change color to the beat; add script variables/functions as needed (help section updated with usage).
Work Log:
- New script tools (src/lib/ava/expression.ts): hsvr(h, s?, v?) / hsvg / hsvb — proper HSV→RGB channel functions (hue wraps 0..1, s/v default 1) so one hue variable paints the full rainbow; smoothstep(e0, e1, x) hermite ramp. All tested headlessly (primaries, negative-hue wrap, degenerate range).
- New env var (src/lib/ava/engine.ts): beatage — seconds since the last beat (0 on the beat frame, starts at 99); exp(-beatage*k) is the classic kick envelope with zero per-script bookkeeping. Documented.
- Help panel (help-panel.tsx): beatage row, hsvr/hsvg/hsvb + smoothstep function rows, and 4 new example formulas leading with beat-color idioms (hue kick per beat, rainbow from one hue, kick envelope, per-bar hue shift).
- Ten hand-authored presets in EMBEDDED_LIBRARY (embedded-presets.ts, folder root/embedded/Zai-Magic, author "Zai", clearly marked KEEP-VERBATIM section; EMBEDDED_SEED_VERSION 6.1 → 6.10; presets route BASE_FOLDERS += root/embedded/Zai-Magic):
1. Prism Chandelier — 6-mirror kaleidoscope ribbons, hue +0.085/beat, beatage glow
2. Neon Heartbeat — solid-mode twin star polygons, hue +0.22/beat, petal count breathes on the kick
3. Spectrum Serpent — spiral oscilloscope, rainbow along body steps 0.14/beat, body swells with sv
4. Bass Bloom — 480 megabuf particles, beat budget launches bursts, EACH PARTICLE KEEPS THE HUE OF ITS SPAWN BEAT (rainbow memory of past beats), gravity + fade
5. Strobe Lattice — nested squares snap rotation +0.62 rad and jump palette frac(beats*0.19) every beat, flash decays on beatage
6. Aurora Veil — 9 getspec-band curtains, scheme drifts +0.17 once per 4-beat bar, beatphase shimmer
7. Supernova — 620 megabuf particles, [beat] budget = n detonates the whole field, white core (sat 0) saturates into the beat hue as it expands (drag physics)
8. Tunnel Vision — 26 rings, hue = chroma − z*0.38: each beat's color is born at the tunnel mouth and rides outward
9. Lissajous Loom — weave re-threads its frequency ratio (2,3)→(2,4)→(3,3)→(3,5)→(6,3) once per bar, rainbow rotates every beat
10. Beat Matrix — 16 getspec column bands, whole rainbow rotates 1/6 per beat, saturation drops on the beat flash (whiteout)
- Headless validation (bun, /home/z/tmp-validate/validate.ts): all 10 parse + 150-frame simulation × n points → zero non-finite outputs; beat-snapshot color check proves every preset's palette MOVES between beats (4-6 distinct avg colors of 6 snapshots). Validator caught two real authoring bugs pre-browser: comma separators are INVALID inside loop() bodies and inside if() argument paren-groups (they split into extra function args) — all groups converted to ';' separators.
- BEAT ENGINE FIX (the deep dive): E2E showed the Demo track fired ~1 beat/7s and never locked BPM (Beat tab: "no tempo", confidence 0). Progressive instrumentation (engine debug logs, raw FFT bin probes, component muting) isolated FOUR stacked causes:
(a) demo bassline (sawtooth 55 Hz, on every beat) sat inside the 20–100 Hz detector band, holding the rolling average so high the kick transient never cleared the 1.4× threshold;
(b) my first fix attempt introduced an envelope bug — pump swell ending at t+0.16 while the decay ramp ended at t+0.145 is INVALID Web Audio scheduling → discontinuity click → broadband noise floor ~0.25 across ALL FFT bins (kick-only test proved bins go to true zero); fixed by chronological envelopes (swell t+0.1, decay ≥ dur);
(c) the "octave-up" A2=110 Hz bassline still leaked into the band because FFT binning reaches ~111 Hz (ceil(100/5.86)=18) — revoiced C3 C3 Eb3 F3 (130.81/155.56/174.61);
(d) the 8192-FFT's 170 ms window integrates the kick, capping any kick's peak-to-mean ratio at ~1.5× — below the default 1.4× threshold only marginally, so beats fired sporadically at irregular intervals and interval-learning never locked. Fixed by remxing the demo (kick gain 1.6, sweep 0.08 s, 0.15 s decay; off-beat ducked bassline; ratio ~1.5×) AND lowering DEFAULT_BEAT_CONFIG.threshold 1.4 → 1.2 (worklog history shows demo detection was always flaky at 1.4; minInterval + 3-consistent-interval learning still guard against false beats; per-visitor slider unaffected for stored prefs).
- RESULT: Demo locks "124.1 BPM" on the header indicator within seconds; beat counter climbs ~2/sec (50→56 in 3 s). All debug instrumentation removed (engine debug block, audio debugBin, watcher-nudge comment); audio.ts getWave/getSpectrum repaired after an edit misfire (verified via git diff review).
- VERIFIED: lint clean; tsc clean (only pre-existing examples/ errors); headless validation ALL CHECKS PASSED (10 presets + function sanity); E2E: tree shows "Zai-Magic · 10" (105 presets · 8 folders), every preset double-click loads (SCRIPT: name in footer), Strobe Lattice captured on two beats → VLM: green/yellow vs pink/magenta (palette swaps on the beat — PROOF), Bass Bloom shows blue AND green particle arcs in ONE frame (particles remembering different beats' hues), Beat Matrix renders the spectrum grid, help panel shows beatage + hsvr docs, footer "version 6.10", dev.log clean, Stop → SRC: IDLE.
Stage Summary:
- v6.10 shipped: root/embedded/Zai-Magic holds ten hand-authored presets that flex the whole engine — all three render modes, megabuf particle physics with per-particle beat-hue memory, direct getspec bands, loop()-seeded state, kaleidoscope/tunnel/lattice/lissajous geometry — every one driven by BEAT-SYNCED COLOR (per-beat hue kicks, per-bar scheme shifts, beatage kick envelopes). New script tools (hsvr/hsvg/hsvb, smoothstep, beatage) documented in the help panel for visitors to use in their own presets. The demo track now genuinely locks 124 BPM (remixed for detection + threshold 1.4→1.2), so the beat-color showcase works out of the box with zero audio sources.

Task: Version renumber — user pointed out the bottom-left footer read "version 6.10" when it should be v7.00: 6.9.3 was the last release, then came the Zai-Magic preset family + new script variables/functions (a major feature drop), so the version deserves a major bump, not a minor one.
Work Log:
- Located every consumer of the version stamp: APP_VERSION (src/lib/version.ts) feeds the footer (footer-bar.tsx), document title + og:title (layout.tsx); EMBEDDED_SEED_VERSION (src/lib/ava/embedded-presets.ts) gates the preset-DB re-seed.
- src/lib/version.ts: APP_VERSION '6.10' → '7.00'; changelog entry renumbered 6.10 → 7.00 with an explicit note recording WHY it jumps (new preset family + new script-language features = major release; 6.9.3 was the last 6.x patch) so future history readers understand the gap.
- src/lib/ava/embedded-presets.ts: EMBEDDED_SEED_VERSION '6.10' → '7.00' (+ the two v6.10 comments in the header and the KEEP-VERBATIM Zai-Magic banner). Bump verified safe: the seed gate only re-writes the read-only embedded subtree from source; visitor presets live in the browser.
- VERIFIED: lint clean; served HTML shows "OVE — Open Visualization Engine (v7.00)" (title + og:title) and footer "version 7.00", zero occurrences of 6.10 in the page; GET /api/presets 200 with the version-gate re-seed firing exactly as designed (deleteMany + createMany + marker upsert in dev.log); re-seeded library intact — 105 presets: Amp Picks 66, Envision 15, Dynamics 9, Synth-C 5, Zai-Magic 10.
Stage Summary:
- v7.00 shipped (renumbered from the never-deployed 6.10): the footer bottom-left, document title, and share metadata all read v7.00, matching the user's mental model — 6.9.3 + Zai-Magic + new script tools = the first release of the 7.x line. The embedded-library seed marker moved to 7.00 in the same stroke, so production deploys will seed Zai-Magic fresh on first visit.

Task: Replace the synthesized Demo track with the operator's real MP3 banger ("Neural Mecha Pulse", Google Drive) so the project demos against real mastered music — and make the beat engine actually survive it.
Work Log:
- Downloaded the track (4.8 MB, 3:18, 48 kHz stereo, ~194 kbps, ID3 title "Neural Mecha Pulse") → public/demo-track.mp3 (served same-origin).
- HEADLESS VALIDATION FIRST (replicating the exact browser chain: AnalyserNode 8192-FFT Blackman window, byte dB scale [-100,-30], most-recent-8192-samples per frame, 60 fps stepping, the REAL BeatTracker class): the 6.x level-threshold detector CANNOT lock this track — sustained club sub-bass holds the 20-100 Hz band at ~1.2× peak-to-mean (measured), so threshold crossings fire sporadically at the minInterval floor and the interval learner folds 250 ms→500 ms → phantom 120 BPM (true tempo: 133.3, and the track drifts 130.7→133.1 through its body).
- Signal-analysis detour (all headless, /home/z/tmp-validate/): onset envelopes (spectral flux) scored 88% beat-carrying vs 65% for bass level; per-bin periodicity scan showed the beat spread across the whole low spectrum with strong 450/683/900 ms metrical-level competition — no per-frame threshold rule can separate kick frames in this dense mix. CONCLUSION: the detector core had to become autocorrelation-on-onsets (aubio/librosa-style), not threshold-crossing.
- NEW DETECTOR (beat.ts rewritten, public API unchanged: update/standby/tap/getBpm/getPhase): full-band spectral-flux onset envelope (computed in audio.ts getBands, new BandLevels.flux) → resampled onto a FIXED 60 Hz time grid → ~4 s ring → every ~100 ms: autocorrelation over 300-1000 ms lags (60-200 BPM), best LOCAL max of AC × log-BPM prior (σ=0.45 oct around 125) × lock-hysteresis (×1.25), parabolic-refined, gated by normalized r = AC(peak)/Var ≥ 0.25; subdivision resolver (cand>500 ms → half when the half-lag AC ≥ 75% and prior ≥ 0.5 — maps 900→450 half-tempo competitors onto the beat level where they AGREE with the lock, and mangles 683 ms competitors into non-agreeing lags that can never commit; the prior gate stops it mangling true 110 BPM songs); 2 agreeing candidates lock (3 for tempo CHANGES; a change caps confidence at 0.6 so a wrong steal decays fast); comb-filter phase alignment with 25% phase-hysteresis (dance music's kick-vs-offbeat-bass onset trains make the raw comb flap half a period); beats fire at absolute nextBeatAt timestamps with a PLL pull (≤3% of period per estimate, 5% deadband) + background-tab catch-up guard. floorLevel changed units (bass-level 0.04 → flux 0.0015); store.ts readStoredBeatConfig migrates stored visitor values ≥ 0.01 (old level-domain numbers would dead-gate the new detector).
- THREE real bugs found and fixed through A/B instrumentation (prototype vs port fed identical input):
(a) frame-indexed ring: headless Chrome's rAF runs at a jittery 17-83 ms cadence (measured), smearing AC lags into noise → fixed by the 60 Hz grid resampler;
(b) resampler under-fill: ticks anchored at prevTime+k×step vs ULP-noisy gaps under-push ticks (ring time-compressed ~7%, a 133 BPM track reading 420-431 ms candidates) → fixed with ABSOLUTE integer-indexed grid ticks (gridOrigin + i×step);
(c) prototype's stability partly relied on the subdivision rule's accidental change-blocking — made the mechanism explicit (prior tightening + ×1.25 hysteresis + provisional tempo changes).
- VALIDATION SUITE (real BeatTracker, real track PCM): uniform 60 fps (any real user machine): lock 1.9 s, held 131-133 for 97% of post-lock time, 92% beat-gap regularity, confidence 0.99, 403 beats; synthetic worst-case rAF jitter: 77-90% held with beats always on a sane grid; silence: zero beats. Techno-124/hiphop-90 synth patterns lock exactly. Known limitation (documented in beat.ts + Beat tab): sparse kick-vs-snare backbeats (dnb) may lock at half tempo — stable, musically defensible, two taps of Set Beat correct it.
- DEMO TRACK REWIRE (audio.ts): startDemo now fetches /demo-track.mp3 → decodeAudioData (cached) → gapless looped AudioBufferSourceNode → gain 0.9 → analyser → destination; sourceLabel "Neural Mecha Pulse". Entire synth apparatus deleted (scheduleDemo/kick/snare/hat/bassNote/noiseBuf/step/nextStepTime/demoTimer/demoBpm/setDemoBpm — ~130 lines).
- UI: header BPM slider (meaningless for a real track) replaced by a track-name chip (Music2 icon + "Neural Mecha Pulse"); Demo button tooltip updated; demo toast now announces the track; Beat tab copy rewritten for the new detector (attacks/autocorrelation/comb, sensitivity = periodicity requirement); store: demoBpm/setDemoBpm removed.
- engine.ts feeds levels.flux to the tracker (bassAtt→flux, one line + comments); EMBEDDED_SEED_VERSION intentionally stays 7.00 (preset library unchanged).
- BROWSER E2E (Playwright, headless Chrome): initially BPM wandered 105-122 — root-caused through staged instrumentation (rAF cadence probe → ring dumps → analyser freshness probe → pure 133.33 BPM click-track test → parallel AudioContext clock): THIS SANDBOX's headless-Chrome dummy audio device runs at 0.847× realtime (16.94 s of audio per 20 s wall) — the music genuinely plays ~15% slower here and the detector honestly reports the HEARD tempo (133.3 × 0.85-0.92 ≈ 113-123; a perfect click track reads ~119). Beats stay aligned with the audible beats; on real hardware (audio/wall = 1.0) it reads the true tempo. All debug instrumentation removed.
- FINAL E2E (sandbox-aware expectations): page v7.1 ✓; Demo → BPM 116.5, stable 116.9/117.5 across 30 s, confidence 100% ✓; "Neural Mecha Pulse" chip in header + footer source ✓; beats 11→30 over 10 s ✓; Beat Matrix preset → VLM verdict BEAT-REACTIVE (palette shifted cool teals → warm pinks/oranges between beat-separated frames) ✓; Stop → BPM "—" ✓; zero console/page errors ✓. lint clean, tsc clean, dev.log clean.
Stage Summary:
- v7.1 shipped: the Demo button now plays the operator's real mastered track, and the beat engine was rewritten to survive it — onset (spectral-flux) envelope → fixed 60 Hz grid → autocorrelation with tempo prior, metrical-level subdivision resolver, comb phase with hysteresis, and a PLL-glued beat grid. Headlessly proven on the actual PCM (97% tempo hold at uniform timing; the 6.x detector scored 0). The old demo synth, its BPM slider, and setDemoBpm are gone (replaced by a track chip). Visitor-stored beat configs migrate automatically. E2E verified in-browser end-to-end; the sandbox's slow dummy audio device (0.847×) makes BPM read ~115-120 here — on real hardware it reads the true ~133. Known limitation: dnb-style sparse backbeats may lock half-tempo (tap-correctable). The E2E agent attempt (Task 27-e2e) exceeded its turn budget without recording; all browser verification in this entry was done directly via Playwright.

Task: v7.2 new-visitor showcase flow — (1) default theme = Black + Purple Outline base with Blue accent tab for new visitors; (2) Zai-Magic "Bass Bloom" as the default preset when none is selected and music loads; (3) animated shimmer/reflective moving shine on the opening Demo Track button; (4) clicking it selects the Zai-Magic folder, enables randomization for that folder, sets the change time to 20 s; (5) preset changes (manual load or random) blur-dissolve from the previous preset instead of hard-cutting.
Work Log:
- THEME DEFAULTS: src/lib/theme.ts DEFAULT_BASE 'purple'→'outline', DEFAULT_ACCENT 'yellow'→'blue' (comment records the v7.2 showcase rationale; stored visitor choices always win). src/app/layout.tsx next-themes defaultTheme 'purple'→'outline' + comment. globals.css :root no-JS fallback accent plumbing yellow→blue values (96 165 250 / #1e3a8a / #1d4ed8, matching the existing [data-accent="blue"] block). settings-tab pickBase: explicit outline pick now auto-pairs BLUE accent (was purple — would have yanked new-default visitors off blue); outline base blurb "(blue by default)"; chipFor fallback #fde047→#60a5fa. getStoredDarkBase inherits the new default automatically.
- DEFAULT PRESET: page.tsx useInitialLoad startup chain (no saved default script) now = Bass Bloom in root/embedded/Zai-Magic → any Zai-Magic → first preset → template (was: first Synth-C classic). audio-source.ts new ensureDefaultPreset(): called after EVERY successful source start (demo/mic/file/link via playResolvedTrack) — if activePresetId === null, engine-loads Bass Bloom (editor text untouched, random-switch courtesy) + "Default preset running" toast.
- SHIMMER CTA: globals.css .shimmer-cta — skewed white light band (::after, 45% width, translateX -180%→340% skewX(-14deg), ease-in-out, 3.2 s cycle with 45% travel + pause) sweeping across the idle-overlay Demo Track button; pointer-events none; prefers-reduced-motion disables it. Applied to the Demo Track button in visual-stage.tsx.
- DEMO SHOWCASE FLOW: audio-source.ts startShowcaseMix() on every successful startDemo: selectFolder('root/embedded/Zai-Magic') (also scopes randomize) + toggleFolder expand + setRandomIntervalSec(20) + setRandomize(true); demo toast rewritten ("Neural Mecha Pulse · Zai-Magic preset mix — a new visual every 20 s…").
- BLUR TRANSITION: engine.ts setScript() snapshots the live canvas into an offscreen canvas before swapping (only when a script was already rendering); loop() overlays the snapshot for 700 ms with easeOutCubic alpha fade 1→0 + progressive blur (ctx.filter, max e²·12·(h/480) device px) + 6% scale-up so softening edges never gap the border; feature-detected canFilter (older Safari → plain crossfade); rapid swaps re-snapshot the mid-transition composite (continuous); stop()/start() clear it. Covers every swap path (tree Load, random timer, Demo flow, Script Run) since they all funnel through setScript.
- POLISH FIX found during E2E: script.ts header parser kept raw quotes (name: "Bass Bloom" → footer read SCRIPT: "Bass Bloom"). Added quote-stripping for name/author/description string headers — footer now reads SCRIPT: Bass Bloom (all presets benefit; nothing compared meta.name raw).
- E2E (Playwright headless, /home/z/tmp-validate/e2e-v72.py, two revisions): FIRST RUN caught 3 test-script artifacts (toast checked at +1.2 s while the 4.8 MB track was still fetching/decoding; footer innerText has a newline SRC:\nDEMO; my transition target collided with the random pick) + the real quotes bug above. REV 2 ALL PASS: fresh visitor html class "outline" + data-accent "blue" + footer "version 7.2" + SCRIPT: Bass Bloom (clean); shimmer-sweep 3.2 s animation running + button-region luma 147.95→158.2 as the band crosses (7-frame series); Demo → toast "Demo track playing/Zai-Magic preset mix" + SRC: DEMO + Neural Mecha Pulse chip + Zai-Magic treeitem selected AND expanded + randomize checked + delay "20" + "ON · every 20s" chip + "Random from: Zai-Magic"; 23 s later SCRIPT switched Bass Bloom→Tunnel Vision (random mix) with BPM alive 130.6; manual load Tunnel Vision→Prism Chandelier mid-transition frame RMS 55.05 vs settled vs late 29.33 (monotonic dissolve, no hard cut); create "test-default" user preset → delete (activePresetId pruned null) → Demo → "Default preset running" toast + Bass Bloom auto-loads; returning visitor with stored purple+yellow keeps it; ZERO console/page errors; lint clean; tsc clean (only pre-existing examples/); title "OVE — Open Visualization Engine (v7.2)"; /demo-track.mp3 200.
- VLM visual confirmation: fresh-visitor shot = blue accent, diagonal shine band visible on the Demo Track button, footer Bass Bloom; demo-flow shot = Zai-Magic folder selected+expanded (Aurora Veil/Bass Bloom visible), ON · every 20s chip, Random from: Zai-Magic, Neural Mecha Pulse header chip, blue accent; transition pair = mid-frame "colorful atomic orbital pattern overlaid on a large, fading concentric ring background" (new preset emerging under the dissolving old one) vs settled = one clean crisp visual.
Stage Summary:
- v7.2 shipped: new visitors land on the Black + Purple Outline theme with Blue highlights and Bass Bloom already running; the idle overlay's Demo Track button carries an animated reflective shimmer that invites the click; that one click starts Neural Mecha Pulse AND the showcase club mix (Zai-Magic folder selected + expanded, randomize ON scoped to it, new random preset every 20 s); any music started with no preset active auto-loads Bass Bloom; every preset change now blur-dissolves over 700 ms instead of hard-cutting. Returning visitors' stored theme/randomize choices are untouched. Footer preset names lost their literal quotes (parser polish).

Agent: main (Z.ai Code)
Task: Fix the Zai-Magic "Supernova" preset — user report: "It does one effect once when loaded, but then the screen just stays black instead of reacting to the music."
Work Log:
- ROOT CAUSE (proven headlessly before touching anything, /home/z/tmp-validate/supernova-diag.ts): the particle kill condition `above(abs(px)+abs(py), 2.4)` was PHYSICALLY UNREACHABLE dead code. Drag physics (pos += vel·exp(-age·1.6)·dt) caps a particle's total displacement at vel/1.6 ≈ 1.0, so max |px|+|py| ever reached was 1.379 (measured over 11.7 s of 133-BPM simulation) — nothing ever crossed 2.4, nothing ever died. Since respawning requires a DEAD particle (age < 0), the per-beat `budget = n` detonation could never fire after [init]'s one-time budget=620 — the preset detonated once on load, every particle faded to invisible (lum→0) but stayed "alive", and beats arrived to a field with nothing dead to respawn. sumAlpha decayed 620→0.0 by frame 540 and stayed there: permanent black. (The original v7.00 validator missed this because its beat-snapshot check only required colors to MOVE between snapshots — fading-to-black counts as moving.)
- FIX (src/lib/ava/embedded-presets.ts, Supernova content): (1) [beat] now force-clears the entire field — `k = 0; loop(n, megabuf(k*6+4) = -1; k = k + 1)` — before `budget = n`, so EVERY beat detonates the full 620-particle field on that very frame (engine section order frame→beat→point verified in engine.ts); (2) the unreachable position-kill replaced by a fade-based kill `if(below(lum, 0.02), (megabuf(b0+4) = -1; skip = 1), 0)` so during long beat gaps/breakdowns fully-cooled particles die and the per-frame budget trickle (+1/frame) respawns them as gentle embers — the screen never goes permanently black; (3) blast geometry now re-randomizes per beat (rand seeds + beats·13.7 / beats·7.31) — no two explosions alike, matching the "supernova" concept.
- DIAGNOSTIC HARNESS BUG found & fixed along the way (supernova-diag.ts): my first verification run showed all-zero draws — the harness didn't reset env.skip/env.alpha between per-point executions like the real engine does (engine.ts resets per-point outputs before each execPoint); the phantom-slot point (k=floor(i·n) with the engine's i=k/(n-1) convention maps the last point to slot 620, age exactly 0 → skip=1) poisoned the stale skip for every following frame's count. Per-point probe (supernova-probe.ts) with the proper reset proved the fix worked; harness corrected, plus the blast-geometry check rewritten from position-drift (miscalibrated — spawn radius is a constant 0.03, max drift 0.06, random-pair mean 0.038) to angular decorrelation (mean |Δangle| > 0.5 rad).
- HEADLESS VERIFICATION: steady 133-BPM 12 s sim — ALL 26 beats re-detonate the full field (sumAlpha 619/620 on every beat frame), blast directions decorrelated between beats, zero non-finite outputs; breakdown sim (beats stop after 2.5 s) — embers keep sumAlpha 86.8 at t=10 s (pre-fix: 0.0). Full 10-preset regression validator: ALL CHECKS PASSED (Supernova now 2/6 distinct beat-snapshots — expected: each beat frame starts white-hot at the core by design).
- EMBEDDED_SEED_VERSION 7.00 → 7.01 (library content changed → browser DBs re-seed); APP_VERSION 7.2 → 7.2.1 + changelog entry documenting the unreachable-kill root cause.
- VERIFIED: API serves the fixed content (beat-wipe loop + fade-kill + beat-varying seeds all present in GET /api/presets, 105 presets intact after re-seed); lint clean; tsc clean (only pre-existing examples/); dev.log clean (single "Compiling /_error" line = Next.js built-in route, benign).
- BROWSER E2E (/home/z/tmp-validate/e2e-supernova.py, Playwright headless): fresh page → version 7.2.1 ✓; Demo Track → SRC: DEMO ✓; showcase randomize (auto-ON from v7.2 flow) disabled for the test ✓; Supernova dblclick → footer "SCRIPT: Supernova" ✓; BPM locked 133.7 (true tempo — the sandbox slow-audio issue from Task 27 did not bite this run) ✓. THE REGRESSION TEST: 26 canvas samples over 10.4 s STARTING AFTER the initial blast — late-window (≥4 s) min luma 4.51 / mean 20.83 (pre-fix: permanent black), luma spread 34.22 with 5 local maxima (pulses on the beat), RMS 29.64 between frames 2.4 s apart (fresh geometry + hue per beat); ZERO console/page errors. VLM on two late frames ~2 s apart: "both images show a vibrant, colorful particle explosion" (green/yellow dominating — the beat-synced hue), "different visual states… indicating active animation over time" (one diffuse blast vs one compact bright core with an outer ring — the detonate→expand→re-detonate cycle).
Stage Summary:
- v7.2.1 shipped: Supernova detonates on EVERY beat again. Root cause was an unreachable kill threshold (2.4 vs 1.38 max reachable under drag) that left the whole field alive-but-invisible, so the beat budget had nothing to respawn; fixed by force-clearing the field in [beat] (guaranteed full re-detonation each beat), a fade-based kill for ember survival during breakdowns, and per-beat blast re-randomization. Embedded library re-seeds via marker 7.01. Verified end-to-end headlessly (26/26 beats re-detonate, embers alive in gaps, zero NaN, full 10-preset regression) and in-browser (screen alive 10+ s past the initial blast, beat-pulsing luma, evolving visuals, VLM-confirmed colorful explosions, zero errors). Note for future preset authors: with drag-modulated velocity, position-threshold kills must be computed against vel·∫drag dt — or just kill by fade like Bass Bloom does.

Agent: main (Z.ai Code)
Task: v7.3 demo-flow refinements — (1) Demo Track stops after ONE play-through (it is a demo pass, not a radio station); (2) the mix mode the Demo flow checked gets unchecked when the demo stops; (3) the visitor returns to the main landing dialog after the demo finishes; (4) preset loaded/changed popup toasts disabled (the footer SCRIPT: label already echoes every change); (5) the mix timer never changes the selected preset when no music is playing.
Work Log:
- audio.ts: startDemo no longer sets src.loop=true — the AudioBufferSourceNode plays once; an 'ended' listener (stale-source guarded: only the CURRENT demoSource may retire the engine) calls stopSources(). New public callback onDemoEnded, fired EXACTLY ONCE from stopSources() whenever an ACTIVE demo is torn down — natural end, Stop button, or switching to another source all funnel through the same path. Header Demo tooltip updated ("plays once through").
- audio-source.ts: startDemo wires engine.audio.onDemoEnded → syncSource() (store goes idle → the visual-stage idle overlay, keyed on source==='idle', returns automatically) + retireDemoShowcase() (unchecks the mix mode the showcase checked). Demo toast copy now says "one play-through".
- Toast removal: "Preset loaded" (presets-tab useLoadPreset), "Random preset" (store loadRandomPreset), "Default preset running" (ensureDefaultPreset) all deleted — the footer SCRIPT: label (driven by engine stats at ~8 Hz) echoes every change; only compile errors still toast. store.ts's now-unused toast import removed.
- Idle guard: loadRandomPreset returns early when store.source==='idle' — silence never re-shuffles the selected preset; the checkbox stays as the visitor left it.
- NOTE: this entry was written retroactively alongside Task 31 — v7.3's browser E2E initially failed on a test-harness issue (Zai-Magic folder is collapsed at fresh load; fixed by clicking the "Expand folder Zai-Magic" tree expander) and the user added the Sequence request before the re-run, so both versions were verified together in the v7.4 E2E below.
Stage Summary:
- v7.3 shipped (verified as part of the v7.4 E2E): single-pass demo, showcase unwind on any demo end, landing-overlay return, silent preset-change toasts, no re-shuffling during silence.

Task ID: 31
Agent: main (Z.ai Code)
Task: v7.4 Sequence mode — a 'Sequence' checkbox next to Random that cycles the folder's presets IN ORDER (wrap past last → back to first) instead of shuffling; Random and Sequence mutually exclusive; Demo showcase uses Sequence (walks all Zai-Magic presets in order); Random never loads the same preset twice in a row; Sequence unchecks when the demo stops; Sequence holds through silence like Random; both share the same delay time. (The user's later "blank the screen when no music" request was explicitly RETRACTED by them — presets stay visible without music.)
Work Log:
- store.ts: new sequenceMode state + setSequenceMode action; BOTH mode setters implement mutual exclusion on the ON path (set(on ? {mode:true, other:false} : {mode:false}) — turning one off never lights the other). One timer, one dispatcher: syncRandomTimer runs when EITHER mode is on and ticks autoSwitchTick → sequenceMode ? loadNextPreset() : randomize ? loadRandomPreset().
- loadNextPreset (new): same scope-pool logic, sorts the pool with the tree's exact comparator (name, case-insensitive localeCompare), finds the ACTIVE preset's index and advances (idx+1+len)%len — idx=-1 (nothing active / active outside scope) starts at the FIRST preset; past the last preset it wraps to the first, forever. Idle guard identical to Random's; editor text never touched; no toast.
- loadRandomPreset: no-repeat fix — candidates = pool minus the running preset whenever the pool offers a real choice (pool.length>1), so Random can never load the same preset twice in a row.
- Persistence: LS_RANDOM payload gains `sequence: boolean`; enabled = whichever mode is on; restoreRandomSettings brings back exactly the saved mode (old saves without the flag → Random, as before).
- audio-source.ts: startShowcaseMix now calls setSequenceMode(true) (mutual exclusion unticks Random if the visitor had it on) — the demo pass walks every Zai-Magic preset in tree order, 20 s each, instead of repeating random picks; retireDemoShowcase unchecks EITHER mode; demo toast says "preset sequence — every preset in order".
- presets-tab.tsx: Sequence checkbox (id ava-sequence, aria "Sequence presets") next to Random (label shortened "Randomize"→"Random" to match the user's terminology); mode-aware scope line ("Sequence from:" / "Random from:"), per-mode hint line (cycle+wrap vs shuffle+no-repeat), chip now reads "SEQUENCE · every Ns" / "RANDOM · every Ns".
- version.ts: APP_VERSION 7.4 + changelog entry (7.3 entry written in the same pass; both released together).
- HEADLESS LOGIC TEST (/home/z/tmp-validate/sequence-test.ts, real store + real engine, localStorage stubbed because bun has none): mutual exclusion both directions + off-doesn't-light-other; Sequence walked Bass Bloom → Beat Matrix → Neon Heartbeat → Tunnel Vision → Aurora Veil → Bass Bloom → Beat Matrix (exact sorted order, wrap verified); Random 6 picks zero consecutive repeats; idle freeze (7 s, 2+ ticks, no advance); persistence payload {enabled:true, sequence:true, intervalSec:3} + restore brings back Sequence not Random. Two harness bugs found on the way (test-side only): the expected-list was misaligned by the initial-state sample and the collector filtered the legitimate wrap-back-to-start name; engine logic was correct both times.
- lint clean; tsc clean (only pre-existing examples/).
- BROWSER E2E part 1 (/home/z/tmp-validate/e2e-v74.py, ALL PASS): fresh load version 7.4 + overlay + Bass Bloom startup; Zai-Magic expanded via the tree expander, Neon Heartbeat dblclick → footer echoes "Neon Heartbeat", NO "Preset loaded" toast; Sequence checked with no music → Random unchecked + 10 s frozen (no advance); mutual exclusion both ways in the UI; Demo click → SRC: DEMO + "preset sequence…one play-through" toast + SEQUENCE checked + RANDOM unchecked + delay 20 + "SEQUENCE · every 20s" chip + Zai-Magic selected&expanded + header chip + overlay hidden; with music at delay 3 the footer walked Prism Chandelier → Spectrum Serpent → Strobe Lattice → Supernova → Tunnel Vision → Aurora Veil (WRAP) → Bass Bloom → Beat Matrix → Lissajous Loom → Neon Heartbeat → Prism Chandelier (second lap) — the exact tree order; switch to Random → 9 picks zero consecutive repeats; Stop → overlay back + SRC: IDLE + BOTH modes unchecked + chip gone + BPM —; visitor re-enables Sequence after stop → 10 s frozen; ZERO console/page errors.
- BROWSER E2E part 2 (/home/z/tmp-validate/e2e-v74-natural.py, ALL PASS): demo started from the landing overlay (Sequence auto-on), still playing at 60 s, natural end at 200.7 s (full single play-through — no loop, no early stop) → landing overlay back, SRC: IDLE, Sequence AND Random unchecked, track chip gone, BPM —, zero errors.
- dev.log clean.
Stage Summary:
- v7.4 shipped: the Presets panel's mix row now offers Random | Sequence | delay — Sequence cycles the scope folder top-to-bottom and wraps, Random shuffles without immediate repeats, ticking either unticks the other, both share the delay and freeze through silence, and the saved mode survives reloads. The Demo showcase runs Sequence so the one play-through walks all ten Zai-Magic presets in order, and however the demo ends (finish, Stop, source switch) the mode is unchecked and the visitor is back at the landing dialog. The user's "blank screen on silence" idea was retracted — presets remain loadable and visible without music.

Agent: main (Z.ai Code)
Task: v7.5 yt-dlp compatibility (user request): many YouTube links died with "Playback failed: The media resource indicated by the src attribute or assigned media provider object was not suitable." Root cause: the old flow proxied the extractor's STREAM URL — googlevideo URLs are IP-locked (the resolver's IP is baked in), expire within hours, and the default "bestaudio" pick is webm/Opus, a container several browsers refuse outright. Fix per the user's design: resolve single tracks by DOWNLOADING only the audio and converting to MP3 server-side (yt-dlp -f bestaudio/best -x --audio-format mp3 --audio-quality 0 -o "%(title)s.%(ext)s"), preserving the video's real title for the Playing: label, plus hardening to prevent the other error classes.
Work Log:
- Root-cause confirmed live from the sandbox (which sees the same datacenter-IP conditions as the user's VPS): bare yt-dlp hits the bot wall; with the house cookie + Deno in PATH the metadata pass works and the picked stream is itag 251 webm/opus (mime=audio/webm, ip=<resolver IP> baked in) — exactly the fragile thing the browser was being fed through the proxy.
- lib/server/audio-files.ts (new): per-track mkdtemp workspace (ove-audio-*), findConvertedMp3 (scans for the .mp3 the ExtractAudio post-processor leaves behind), removeDownloadDir, and a throttled orphan sweeper (dirs older than 1 h — crash leftovers a lapsed entry can never prune).
- stream-store.ts: entries now come in two kinds. New file entries {dir, path, bytes, contentType} own their download dir; prune() removes the dir when the entry lapses (30-min sliding TTL) and nudges the sweeper. createFileStreamEntry added; proxy entries unchanged.
- /api/audio/stream: file-serving mode with FULL HTTP Range support — parseRange handles open/closed/suffix forms, 206 + Content-Range/Content-Length/Accept-Ranges on hits, 416 with "bytes */size" on unsatisfiable, 200+Content-Length on full GET, always Content-Type audio/mpeg; streams via fs.createReadStream → Readable.toWeb. File entries skip the SSRF gate (nothing is fetched). Proxy mode byte-identical to before.
- /api/resolve: pass 1 (metadata, -J) unchanged → playlist branch unchanged; single tracks now run pass 2, the operator's pipeline verbatim: -f bestaudio/best -x --audio-format mp3 --audio-quality 0 --no-playlist --no-progress --no-warnings --socket-timeout 15 --retries 3 --fragment-retries 3 --max-filesize 300M -o "<workspace>/%(title)s.%(ext)s". The metadata pass's title/duration/source ride in the response untouched (Playing: shows the video's real name, e.g. 孟婆). One semaphore acquire spans both passes; YTDLP_QUEUE_TIMEOUT_MS 40 s → 120 s and DOWNLOAD_TIMEOUT_MS 180 s (downloads take minutes, not the 30 s of a metadata pass). New shared classifier answerYtdlpFailure() (spawn/timeout/unsupported/bot-wall/stale) used by BOTH passes so they can never drift. Failure policy: --max-filesize → honest "too long" 422; ffmpeg-missing (token+missing-phrase AND-match) → one-time operator console.warn + graceful degrade to the legacy proxy path (5c, byte-identical pre-v7.5 behavior, incl. the HLS/DASH rejection and cookie-header rules); unrecognized download failures also fall through to the proxy as best effort; recognized diagnoses (bot-wall, stale-extractor, spawn, timeout) answer directly.
- queue.ts: PRELOAD_LEAD_SEC 15 → 60 — each queued track now needs 10–60 s of server conversion; a 15 s look-ahead would have stalled silence between songs.
- link-dialog.tsx: Load button says "Fetching" (spinner) while busy, plus a status line "Downloading the audio and converting it to MP3 on the server…" so the longer wait is explained instead of looking stuck.
- version.ts: APP_VERSION 7.5 + changelog. lint clean; tsc clean (pre-existing examples/skills only).
- LIVE GROUND-TRUTH (sandbox, house cookie, real YouTube): the operator's command shape verified end-to-end manually first (孟婆.webm → 孟婆.mp3, 10,145,420 bytes, VBR ~239 kbps, 339.6 s — matches the video duration; original container deleted by the post-processor).
- API E2E: POST /api/resolve with the user's exact link → 200 in 19 s {title 孟婆, source youtube, durationSec 340}; stream then verified: bytes=0-1023 → 206 "bytes 0-1023/10145420" audio/mpeg with ID3 (49 44 33) at byte 0; mid-file 206; bytes=-1024 suffix 206 (last 1024 bytes); unsatisfiable → 416 "bytes */10145420"; full GET → 200 Content-Length 10145420 (byte-exact); workspace /tmp/ove-audio-*/孟婆.mp3 present; second resolve → cache hit, SAME token in 16 ms (no re-download); direct MP3 link (soundhelix) still resolves instantly through the proxy path; bogus token → 404.
- BROWSER E2E (agent-browser + VLM, ALL PASS): fresh load v7.5 + landing overlay; Stream a Link → dialog → paste the user's link → Load: busy state shows the disabled "Fetching" button + the converting status line; after the ~20 s first-visitor download playback STARTS BY ITSELF — footer SRC: 孟婆, header BPM live (131.8 → 128.2 across checks, beat detector locked), 60 FPS canvas; second (cache-busted) URL exercised the full download path again with the same result; re-resolve of the cached link played instantly. VLM on two frames 3 s apart: visualization animating (colors/shape/BPM changed), "SRC: LINK · 孟婆" visible, no errors/broken UI. One React hydration advisory appeared in the FIRST cold session and did NOT reproduce on any subsequent load/interaction (fresh loads are clean) — a one-off on first compile, not a regression; page errors zero throughout. dev.log clean.
- NOTE for the operator's VPS: the MP3 pipeline requires ffmpeg on the server (present here: ffmpeg 7.1.5). Without it the resolver degrades to the old proxy path and logs one console warning — install with apt install ffmpeg to enable the reliable pipeline.
Stage Summary:
- v7.5 shipped: music links now resolve by download-and-convert — the server runs the operator's command (audio-only, VBR-0 MP3, title preserved), serves the finished file same-origin with full Range support, and the Playing: label shows the video's real title. The three failure classes behind "media resource not suitable" (IP-locked URLs, URL expiry, webm/Opus containers) are gone by construction; bot-wall/stale-extractor self-healing is unchanged, over-long tracks answer honestly, a missing ffmpeg degrades to the legacy proxy, and playlist look-ahead leaves room for conversions.

Agent: main (Z.ai Code)
Task: v7.5.1 Link dialog width fix (user request, screenshot-backed): on the operator's VPS deployment the "Stream a music link" dialog rendered with its content stretching past the box — description, input + Load button, RECENT LINKS rows and footer all crossed the right border.
Work Log:
- Screenshot forensics (drive link → pixel analysis, no guesswork): the user runs the outline base + green accent, so the dialog box is a pure-black rounded rect defined by an emerald-800 border. Measured from pixels: border columns x=716/1203 (487 px ≈ 448 CSS px at 110 % zoom), yet content ran to x≈1247 — Load button and recent rows crossed the right border by ~44 px while the left padding was respected. Text did NOT wrap wrong — the CONTENT COLUMN itself was wider than the box.
- Reproduced locally (agent-browser, seeded long recent titles): grid-template-columns on DialogContent measured 461.9 px inside the 448 px dialog; every child laid out at 462 px → 39 px past the border. Binary-search by hiding children: the plain recent-links wrapper DIV is the sole culprit; white-space:normal on its title spans drops the track to the perfect 398 px.
- Root cause: DialogContent is display:grid with an IMPLICIT single column — the track sizes to the widest child's min-content. The recent rows' truncate spans are white-space:nowrap, and Chromium measures a nowrap flex item's FULL text width for the container's min-content (min-w-0 lets the span shrink at layout time but does not zero its min-content contribution through the block→flex chain) — one long saved title ("Bobby Foox — This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things (Official Music Video)") measured ~462 px > 448 px dialog, blowing the track so EVERY child (not just the rows) laid out past the right border.
- ui/dialog.tsx + ui/alert-dialog.tsx (shared fix, every dialog app-wide): the implicit column is now pinned to grid-cols-[minmax(0,1fr)] — minimum 0, sized to the free space, so nowrap content can never stretch a dialog past its border again; rows/lists simply truncate/wrap within the box.
- link-dialog.tsx: sm:max-w-md → sm:max-w-lg (512 px — the library default, comfier for the long description + input row); min-w-0 on the recent-links and playlist containers (direct defense on the measured culprit); break-words on the error text (resolver errors can embed long URLs).
- version.ts: APP_VERSION 7.5.1 + changelog. lint clean; tsc clean (pre-existing examples/skills only).
E2E (agent-browser, ALL PASS):
- Seeded the user's exact recent list (two "Bobby Foxx … (Official Music Video)" + 孟婆): dialog 512 px, track exactly 462 px = content box, ZERO overflowing children, long titles now end in "…" inside their rows. VLM on the fixed dialog (outline theme + green accent replicated): no element crosses the border, Load button comfortably inside, description wraps, ellipsis visible.
- Responsive: 375 px viewport → dialog 343 px, track 293 px, zero overflow, fits viewport with margins.
- Regression sweep: service-login dialog (most complex remaining dialog) 512 px / 462 px track / zero overflow; simple max-w-sm form dialogs structurally protected by the shared track cap. Test browser localStorage cleaned afterwards.
Stage Summary:
- v7.5.1 shipped: the Link dialog (and every other dialog) can no longer be stretched past its border by long unbreakable content — the shared dialog column is capped at the available width, the Link dialog is comfortably wider (512 px), long recent/playlist titles truncate with ellipsis, and error text with embedded URLs wraps. Deploy note: no server changes, pure client fix.

Task: v7.6 "What's New!" (user request): a button to the left of the header's dark/light theme switch opens a dialog titled "What's New!" listing every release version with a brief summary of what was added / improved / fixed / removed — populated with the project's full history (v4.0 on), and from now on every version bump must add its entry here too.
Work Log:
- src/lib/release-notes.ts (new): the visitor-facing changelog data — RELEASE_NOTES newest-first (26 entries, v4.0 → v7.6), each { version, name?, changes[] } with changes typed added/improved/fixed/removed and written as one-line visitor-oriented bullets (digest of the verbose version.ts history; engineering detail stays there). Module-scope dev guard warns in the console + dev.log when RELEASE_NOTES[0].version drifts from APP_VERSION, enforcing the new standing rule.
- src/components/ava/whats-new-dialog.tsx (new): self-contained <WhatsNew /> — Sparkles button (h-11 bordered group styling to match the header, emerald icon, "What's New!" label, icon-only text on xs) + Dialog. Dialog: title "What's New!" with sparkle icon, description "Every update shipped to OVE — N releases and counting, newest first", scrollable list (max-h min(60vh,520px), thinScrollbar), each release = version chip (mono, bordered) + optional name + change rows with color-coded ADDED/IMPROVED/FIXED/REMOVED tags (emerald/amber/rose/zinc — all remapped per theme base & accent, verified in globals.css); the running APP_VERSION gets an emerald "current" badge. Unseen-updates dot: small emerald dot on the button when the visitor's last-opened version (localStorage ove.whatsNew.seen) ≠ APP_VERSION; opening the dialog stores the current version and clears the dot. Read via useSyncExternalStore (server snapshot null → no hydration mismatch, client snapshot reads localStorage, React re-checks the snapshot on the setOpen re-render so the dot clears without effects — the react-hooks/set-state-in-effect lint rule blocked the useEffect version).
- header.tsx: <WhatsNew /> mounted in the always-visible right group, first item (left of ThemeToggle as requested).
- version.ts: APP_VERSION 7.6 + history entry + STANDING RULE comment (every bump ships with its RELEASE_NOTES entry). lint clean; tsc clean (pre-existing examples/skills only).
E2E (agent-browser + VLM, ALL PASS):
- Button sits left of the theme switch (btn right 952 < switch left 995), unseen dot present on first visit; title now "OVE — Open Visualization Engine (v7.6)".
- Dialog: title "What's New!" + sparkle; 26 releases newest-first; v7.6 first with "current" badge; scrollable (2622 px content in 346 px pane; scrolled to bottom → v5.0/v4.0 visible); ZERO elements outside the dialog box (v7.5.1 minmax(0,1fr) fix covers this dialog too); 512 px wide desktop / 343 px at 375 px viewport, fits.
- VLM (dark): tags colored correctly (ADDED green, IMPROVED amber, FIXED rose), no overflow, no cut-off text, aligned. VLM (light theme via the tick switch): all tags/chips/body text readable on white, no contrast problems.
- Dot lifecycle: fresh visit → dot; open → stored 7.6, dot gone after close; simulated old visitor (seen=7.5) → dot returns after reload, clears on open.
- Header widths: 375/390/414/768 px zero overflow with the new button. ≤360 px the header overflows IDENTICALLY with the button hidden (pre-existing BPM/BeatDot/Set-Beat row issue, not a regression — baseline parity measured).
- No release-notes drift warning in console or dev.log (guard green); zero page errors; dev.log clean.
Stage Summary:
- v7.6 shipped: the header now carries a "What's New!" button (left of the theme switch) opening the full release-notes dialog — 26 releases from v4.0 to today, tagged Added/Improved/Fixed/Removed, newest first, current version badged, with an unseen-updates dot. The release-notes module is now part of the version-bump workflow (standing rule + dev-mode drift guard).

Task: v7.6.1 header declutter (user request): remove the "Set Beat" button from the header — tap-tempo lives in the Beat tab, and Space works anywhere; the beat indicator stays. (Worklog entry restored retroactively — the code shipped on schedule but this entry was lost in a session cutoff.)
Work Log:
- header.tsx: Set Beat button removed; comment updated (v7.6.1 note). BeatDot + BPM readout unchanged; Beat tab's tap-tempo and the global Space shortcut untouched.
- version.ts 7.6.1 + release-notes.ts 7.6.1 entry (removed). lint clean; tsc clean (pre-existing examples/skills only).
E2E (agent-browser, ALL PASS):
- Header no longer renders the button; Beat tab still offers Set Beat tap-tempo.
- Follow-up measurement at 320 px (this session): scrollWidth 320 = clientWidth — the pre-existing ≤360 px header overflow is GONE (the BPM/BeatDot/Set-Beat row was the last overwide group).
Stage Summary:
- v7.6.1 shipped: header decluttered; the beat indicator and BPM remain, tap-tempo is one tab away.

Task: v7.7 (user request, two parts): (1) disable the "Music Services — log in / log out of all" section in Settings (the built-in burner/house account already powers Stream-a-Link; section returns reworked later); (2) script sharing — Script⇢Hash / Hash⇢Script buttons in the Script tab that turn any script into ONE short shareable Unicode string (letters, numbers, symbols like ♠♡♦♤♣) and paste it back losslessly, so users can share custom scripts on any social site instead of passing files around. Non-compiling scripts must be shareable too (debugging/advice use case).
Work Log:
- settings-tab.tsx: MUSIC_SERVICES_UI = false feature flag gates the whole Music services section + ServiceLoginDialog + the sessions/house fetch effect (code intact, one line to re-enable). Nothing server-side touched: saved visitor logins keep riding with resolves, the house account keeps powering Stream-a-Link. Appearance sections + separator layout verified without the section.
- src/lib/ava/share-codec.ts (NEW, pure client-side codec):
* Format: `Name:[▲body①①①①①①①①]` — cosmetic label (sanitized script name, [ ] : stripped, ≤48 chars, fallback AVA), ▲ = scheme v1 marker, 8 trailing check digits (①–⑯ as hex of an FNV-1a 32-bit digest of the script).
* Layer 1 DICTIONARY (104 entries, longest-key-first): user-named symbols honored — ♤ = \n, ♡ = beats, ♠ = beatage, ♦ = space, ♣ = tab — plus · = 2-space indent, ▣ = 4-space, ⏎ = \r; sections as music notes ♩[init] ♪[frame] ♫[beat] ♬[point]; comments ♯♭♮; header keys as chess, values as zodiac; spaced ops ← = " = ", → +, ↑ *, ↓ -, ⇄ ", "; statement openers ⇦"x = " ⇨"y = " ⇧"red = " ⇩"green = " ⇪"blue = " ⇱"hue = " ⇲"t = " ⇴"n = "; all 47 functions + audio vars (bass/mid/treb/att variants/vol/beat/red/green/blue/skip/aspect/dt/pi/tau) on individual symbols; frequency-tuned literals from a 207-script corpus analysis (0.5/0.3/0.25/0.55/… , 6.28318 = 2π, hue, rad, flash, " / ").
* Layer 2 PAIR PACKING: any two adjacent [0-9a-zA-Z_.] chars the dictionary didn't consume fold into one common-CJK code point (U+4E00 + 64a + b, block U+4E00–U+5DFF) — identifiers, numbers and prose shrink to half length while semantic symbols stay visible.
* Losslessness machinery: every reserved symbol appearing literally in a script is escaped ("\♠"); control chars → Unicode control pictures ␀–␡; legitimate variation-selectors/zero-widths get dedicated symbols ⌸⌹⌺⌻⌼⌽⌾ so decode can strip every RAW occurrence as platform-injected mangling (VS16 after emoji-capable suits, ZWSP) — including between the escape char and its target; lone surrogates pass through; \r\n round-trips exactly.
* Decode: trims edges + wrapping quotes, strips raw noise, accepts full `Name:[…]` or bare `[…]`, verifies the 8 check digits (truncation → "looks cut off — should end with ]" via the `:[▲` signature, alteration → "check digits do not match"), 300k length guard.
- share-dialogs.tsx (NEW): ScriptToHashDialog (read-only auto-selected textarea, max-h-240px, Copy with clipboard+execCommand fallback and 2s "Copied!" swap, "N characters · X% shorter" stats, built-in-references legend, empty-editor hint) and HashToScriptDialog (paste box, Decode → emerald summary panel: name · lines · chars · compile status via validateScript — compiles OK or "Doesn't compile (yet)" with the error, per the debugging-share use case — then Load into Editor). Re-open state reset uses the render-phase closed→open transition pattern (Radix never fires onOpenChange for programmatic toolbar opens — first E2E pass caught the stale-state bug).
- script-tab.tsx: two outline buttons (emerald-tinted Share2/ClipboardPaste icons) between Load from File and New; ScriptToHash encodes the live editor text (no compile gate), HashToScript loads via setScriptText + toast (Apply/Save stay manual, per "reappear in the script box, then tested/saved").
- Shared dialog HEIGHT cap (v7.5.1 sibling): ui/dialog.tsx + ui/alert-dialog.tsx DialogContent gain max-h-[calc(100dvh-2rem)] overflow-y-auto — the shadcn Textarea's field-sizing-content auto-grew the 679-char hash box past the viewport on mobile (dialog top measured at -93px in an 812px viewport); share textareas additionally capped at max-h-[240px].
- version.ts 7.7 + history; release-notes.ts 7.7 entry (3× added incl. the WIP-sharing and check-digits notes, 1× removed for Music Services). lint clean; tsc clean (pre-existing examples/skills only).
HEADLESS VALIDATION (/home/z/tmp-validate/share-codec, ALL PASS):
- Round-trip EXACT on 207 scripts (90 tools/converted .ava + 6 rust-agent presets + presets.ts inline + 105 DB built-ins): 136,046 → 69,523 chars = 49% shorter overall (best 56%, worst 28%); determinism verified per script.
- Adversarial "soup" (every reserved symbol, all card suits, chess, zodiac, arrows, circled digits, control pictures, backslashes, CRLF, raw control chars, VS16/ZWJ sequences, emoji incl. ZWJ families, combining marks, surrogate edges): exact round-trip.
- 3,000-string fuzz over a hostile alphabet: 3,000/3,000 exact. CJK-comment scripts (colliding with the pair-packing block) and literal pair-block content round-trip via the escape path.
- Decode rejects: truncation (−1/−5/−20 chars), flipped body char (checksum), garbage/empty/malformed inputs; accepts: padded+quoted, bare body, VS16+ZWSP mangled (injected between EVERY char), name with colons/brackets (sanitized), >48-char names (capped).
BROWSER E2E (agent-browser + VLM, ALL PASS):
- Script tab shows both buttons; Script⇢Hash opens with `Bass Bloom:[▲…③⑬⑧⑭①⑧⑩⑪]` — 679 chars, "49% shorter than the script", semantic symbols + CJK pairs visible; Copy click → "Copied!" (clipboard API present).
- Full UI round-trip: hash captured → Hash⇢Script pasted → Decode → panel "Bass Bloom · 56 lines · 1341 characters · Compiles OK — mode: dots" → Load into Editor → editor content BYTE-IDENTICAL to the original (1341/1341 chars, string equality true).
- Errors: garbage → "does not look like an OVE share string…"; truncated (−15, loses "]") → "looks cut off — it should end with "]" (signature-based message); altered → checksum message.
- Re-open resets paste state (bug fix verified); Settings tab: no Music services section/heading/log-in buttons, Appearance intact (visible panel text verified).
- Mobile 375 px: toolbar wraps with both buttons on-screen, no horizontal overflow; both dialogs fit (16–359 px wide, Script⇢Hash 69–743 px in 812 px viewport after the height-cap fix; textarea ≤ 240 px, scrolls internally). 320 px header: scrollWidth 320 = clientWidth (v7.6.1's removal fixed the old ≤360 px overflow — re-measured as promised).
- VLM (dark, Script⇢Hash): nothing crosses the border, string/symbols/ Copy/stats all present, readable, no defects. VLM (light, Hash⇢Script): title, placeholder "My Script:[▲…]", Cancel/Decode well-formed, contrast good on white. VLM (mobile): fully visible, nothing cut off.
- Fresh reload: console 0 errors/0 warnings (release-notes drift guard silent — v7.7 entries match); dev.log clean (compile + 200s only). Test-browser localStorage cleared afterwards.
Stage Summary:
- v7.7 shipped: scripts are now shareable as single Unicode strings — ~half the length of the script, self-checking, copy/paste-survivable, lossless for ANY text (compiling not required) — and the Settings tab is decluttered while the house account keeps Stream-a-Link working for everyone. The shared dialog height cap protects every dialog app-wide from tall content on short screens.

Task ID: 37
Agent: main (Z.ai Code)
Task: v7.10.1 (user report while testing their new "Spectrum Bars" script): a section on the very right of spectrum visuals is inactive and never reacts to the music -- same dead right edge on other spectrum scripts. Explain why, then fix it engine-side so every script benefits.
DIAGNOSIS (why the right edge is dead):
- getspec()/sv mapped bar position 0..1 across the WHOLE FFT: bin = 2 + floor(p^1.6 * 4093) at 8192-point FFT, so pos 1.0 = bin 4095 = Nyquist (22.05/24 kHz). pos 0.8 already lands at ~16.8 kHz.
- Real music carries almost nothing up there, and every lossy source low-passes even lower: the demo collection is 192 kbps MP3 @48 kHz (LAME low-pass ~18.6 kHz), YouTube AAC ~15.5 kHz. Measured on demo-01 (20 s, 8192-FFT): 0.000% of total magnitude above 18.6 kHz; content above -40 dB rel. peak ends at ~13.4 kHz, above -60 dB at ~17.8 kHz.
- So bar positions above ~0.82 read byte 0 every frame -- the rightmost ~20% of every spectrum visual was permanently frozen at the floor. Not a script bug: every script sampling getspec over 0..1 (all 10 converted getspec presets included) showed the same dead edge, exactly like the Winamp AVS originals. The engine's own flux detector already caps at 16 kHz for the same reason (audio.ts getBands).
Work Log:
- src/lib/ava/audio.ts: new SPEC_TOP_HZ = 16000 const (with the full why-comment); getSpectrum() now maps the field from bin 2 (~12 Hz) to the 16 kHz bin instead of Nyquist: hiBin = clamp(ceil(16000/binHz)), bin = 2 + floor(p^1.6 * (hiBin - 2)). Same log-ish curve, every position now lands on frequencies music occupies; right edge = 12-16 kHz "air" band (cymbals/hats/sparkle). Matches the flux cap.
- rust-agent/src/spectrum.rs: SPEC_TOP_HZ const + spectrum_at() mirrors the new mapping exactly (source parity; not compiled locally, no cargo).
- help-panel.tsx: sv entry now states the span: "spectrum magnitude 0..1 (≈12 Hz to 16 kHz, log-ish -- the range music actually occupies)".
- version.ts 7.10.1 + history entry; release-notes.ts 7.10.1 "Spectrum edge unfrozen" (fixed, first-person voice). lint clean; tsc clean apart from the pre-existing base-target share-codec BigInt literals.
VERIFICATION (three independent measurements):
- Offline full-track emulation (Blackman window + AnalyserNode dB byte mapping, every 21 ms of demo-01): under the NEW mapping every one of 48 bars is >15/255 in 76-100% of frames and >60/255 in 68-99% -- nothing is structurally dead. Under the old mapping positions >0.82 read literal zero.
- Fresh in-page chain (eval: fetch demo-01 -> decodeAudioData -> own AnalyserNode at t=150 s): top positions dance (pos 1.0 = 16 kHz fluctuates 4..118/255 frame to frame).
- Live E2E with the USER'S OWN "Spectrum Bars" script (found in the test browser's localStorage from the previous session, 28 bars x 4 pts, running on Demo Track 2 at 60 FPS): per-bar pixel measurements across 6 frames show the rightmost bars (f 0.74-1.0 = 9.9-16 kHz) swinging 4%..76% with the music -- under the old mapping those bars sampled 16.8-24 kHz and sat pinned at 0 (the script's own below(lvl,0.004)?0 snap would hold them perfectly flat). Also verified with a purpose-built 48-bar "Edge Check" script earlier in the session.
- Anomaly chased and closed: one 5-sample window showed bars 36-48 at floor while bass danced -- turned out to be the demo track's outro (offline analysis: t=187-191 s has a legitimately dead 10-16 kHz band while lows keep going); the demo ended right after (SRC: IDLE, place advanced), matching the timeline. Not a mapping issue.
- What's New dialog: v7.10.1 "Spectrum edge unfrozen" first with CURRENT badge + FIXED tag; drift guard silent after a clean reload (one transient guard warning was hot-reload event ordering + stale console history); the one hydration error was agent-browser's own data-__ab-ci instrumentation, absent on a clean reload. Console otherwise clean; dev.log clean.
- Test-browser localStorage cleared afterwards (convention); scratch PCM deleted.
Stage Summary:
- v7.10.1 shipped: the frozen right edge of every spectrum visual is unfrozen. The bar field now spans ~12 Hz to 16 kHz (the range music actually occupies) instead of stretching to Nyquist, so the right bars land on the 10-16 kHz air band and dance with the hats/cymbals. The user's own Spectrum Bars script (whose 0.78+0.45*f treble tilt now has something real to boost) verified live: rightmost bars swing 4..76%.

Task: v7.11 (user request, three parts). RESTORED RETROACTIVELY — the entry was lost in a session cutoff (same as Task 35 once was); scope reconstructed from the version.ts 7.11 history and the tool-results/v711-* evidence screenshots (v711-01 through v711-22, all PASS). (1) Mobile wake lock: while any audio source is live the site holds a Screen Wake Lock so phone/tablet screens stay on; released the moment the engine goes idle so normal inactivity dimming returns. (2) A respectful Demo Track button: no longer force-engages the Sequence checkbox when the visitor has loaded a preset (tree double-click / Load / copied preset) or brought their own script material into the editor — Demo just plays the track; the Zai-Magic showcase only starts for a visit that never picked or typed anything. (3) Script tab one-click Save: a valid script shows the Save button with no save target needed; auto-names from the script's name header (a hash import of "Spectrum Bars:[▼…]" saves as "Spectrum Bars"), "Empty Name" when nameless, " (1)"/" (2)"… suffixes on conflicts — and when the name had to be invented, a "Give This Preset a Name" dialog opens to rename the just-saved preset in one step (saved FIRST, renamed second, so nothing is ever lost).
Work Log (reconstructed):
- src/lib/ava/wake-lock.ts (NEW): Screen Wake Lock sentinel manager — acquire on source-live, release on idle, visibilitychange re-acquire (browsers silently drop the sentinel on hide), silent degradation where unsupported.
- audio-source.ts / control-panel / page.tsx: per-visit manualChoice flag + boot-script snapshot decide whether the Demo showcase may engage; ensureDefaultPreset gained the same guard (mic/file/link never clobber a custom draft either). Demo teardown paths (ended/stop/switch) all respect it.
- script-tab.tsx: Save button visible on any valid script with no target; auto-naming ladder (script name header -> hash import label -> "Empty Name" -> conflict suffixes); "Give This Preset a Name" dialog after any invented save. Hash⇢Script imports clear the stale save target and pass the decoded label through as the fallback name.
- version.ts 7.11 + history; release-notes.ts 7.11 entry.
E2E (evidence: tool-results/v711-01..22, ALL PASS):
- Fresh boot (no selection, no editor material): Demo engages the sequence showcase as before — v711-19/20.
- Preset loaded first (double-click, v711-03; embedded, v711-04): Demo plays the track, Sequence stays UNCHECKED (v711-06), the running script is untouched — a custom script can be debugged against the demo track without fear of replacement (v711-05 custom material case).
- Hash⇢Script -> Save: lands under "user created" as "Spectrum Bars" from the share-string label (v711-09/10/11); nameless script saves as "Empty Name" then the rename dialog appears (v711-12/15); duplicate conflicts get " (1)"/" (2)" suffixes (v711-16/17) and the rename updates the saved preset (v711-13).
- Default boot script + reload states (v711-18); mobile 375 px (v711-21) and desktop (v711-22) clean; wake lock verified by code path (headless browsers do not expose navigator.wakeLock — degrade-silent branch exercised).
Stage Summary:
- v7.11 shipped: the screen stays on while music plays, the Demo button stopped hijacking the preset selection, and one click saves any valid script with a smart name. This restored entry closes the gap in the build diary.

Agent: main (Z.ai Code)
Task: v7.12 (user request): add the classic-AVS background-movement family to the scripting — the background shifts up/down/left/right, spins clockwise/counter-clockwise, draws in and blows out, with the speed accelerating to the beat and hard hits flipping the spin direction while the fade to black stays slow (so colors blend) — then ship a permanent Zai-Magic preset "osc-rotations": a stationary centered oscilloscope whose left/right points color-shift together and whose center points hold their own hue, over a background rotating cw/ccw to the music with temporary beat acceleration.
Work Log:
- src/lib/ava/engine.ts — NEW background feedback transform (the AVS movement family):
* Script controls, read from env AFTER [frame]/[beat] run so this frame's values apply this frame: bgrot (radians/frame, + = CLOCKWISE on screen — canvas y is down so ctx.rotate(+) spins cw), bgx/bgy (per-frame drift, the -1..1 screen convention, y is UP matching script x/y), bgzoom (per-frame scale: <1 draw-in, >1 blow-out, 1 = neutral). Values persist in env like any variable — set from [init] (persists forever), [frame] (every frame) or [beat] (on-beat jumps); neutral readings skip the pass entirely (zero cost for every preset that doesn't move).
* applyBackground(): snapshot the live canvas into an offscreen buffer (globalCompositeOperation 'copy'), wipe the canvas black (the transformed snapshot must REPLACE the old content, not double-expose), then draw the snapshot back through the frame's transform (translate w/2+bgx*w/2, h/2-bgy*h/2; rotate; scale). Uncovered regions (rotated corners, slid-off edges) read black and the persistence fade blends the trails — exactly how the classic AVS plugins made "speed accelerates to the beat, a hard hit flips the spin, fade stays slow" work: the rate is just a script variable driven by a beatage envelope, and a [beat] section flips a dir variable on hard hits (bass vs bass_att).
* Guards: bgNum() falls back to neutral for missing/NaN values (a NaN in a canvas transform matrix would black the screen with no error — every later draw becomes a silent no-op); per-frame clamps rot ±0.6 rad, drift ±0.25, zoom 0.5..2. Buffer recreated automatically on resize; null until first use (zero cost otherwise). Gated on this.script so a stale env after clearScript can never spin a blank canvas.
- src/lib/ava/embedded-presets.ts — eleventh Zai-Magic preset "osc-rotations" (user-named, lowercase so it sorts last in the tree): persist 0.965 (slow fade — colors blend), [frame] drives bgrot = dir * (0.0032 + punch * (0.014 + vol_att * 0.012)) with punch = exp(-beatage*3.2) (temporary beat acceleration that relaxes with the kick ring), bgzoom = 1 - 0.0009 - punch*0.0011 (a whisper of draw-in so trails spiral inward instead of ringing), hue drifts dt*0.012 + beat*0.02; [beat] flips dir on hard hits only (bass > 1.25 * bass_att — soft beats leave the spin alone); [point] draws the stationary centered scope x = i*2-1, y = v*(0.3+vol_att*0.8) with mirror-symmetric color h = hue + |i-0.5|*2 * 0.34 (points equidistant left/right of center share one hue, the center holds its own). EMBEDDED_SEED_VERSION 7.10 -> 7.12 (route re-seeds the subtree; fingerprint self-heal would have caught it too). "ten presets" comments updated to eleven (both the file-top and the Zai-Magic section header).
- src/components/ava/help-panel.tsx — bgrot / bgx/bgy / bgzoom rows in the variables table + three example formulas (beat-accelerated spin, hard-hit direction flip in [beat], draw-in).
- src/lib/version.ts 7.12 + history; src/lib/release-notes.ts 7.12 entry (2x added, first-person voice). Share codec deliberately untouched: its dictionary is a frozen compatibility contract (adding entries needs a new scheme marker) — bg* identifiers ride the pair packing like any custom variable.
HEADLESS VALIDATION (/home/z/tmp-validate/bg-transform/validate-osc.ts, ALL PASS):
- osc-rotations compiles; all 101 embedded presets still compile (regression guard).
- Compiled-program behavior: quiet frame bgrot 0.00397 rad/frame cw + bgzoom 0.99906; hard beat bgrot 0.0256 (6.5x) AND dir flips to -1; soft beat no flip; point pass x spans ±1 with |y| symmetric, mirrored positions share hue exactly (0.7906 both) while center is distinct (0.6206).
BROWSER E2E (agent-browser + pixel measurement + VLM, ALL PASS):
- Fresh boot: title "OVE -- Open Visualization Engine (v7.12)"; tree shows "Zai-Magic -- 11"; /api/presets re-seeded on the version gate and serves osc-rotations (106 presets total; sorts last in Zai-Magic as designed).
- Preset live on the demo collection (manual load first, then Demo Track — v7.11's respectful-Demo still holds: Random/Sequence stayed UNCHECKED with a preset loaded): footer "SCRIPT: osc-rotations · Demo Track 1/2 · FPS 59-60 · PTS 512 · BPM 132.3/138.8 locked". Mid-band (scope zone) mean 133/255; outer zones lit only by rotation-carried trails.
- bgrot isolation (line mathematically confined to the middle 35% band, so outer-zone content can ONLY be rotation-carried): outer zones hold a steady mean ~14/255 vs EXACTLY 0.00 in the no-bg control — rotation puts content where the line cannot reach.
- bgx sign: +0.012 drifts the bright cloud right (mean x 0.518); -0.012 mirrors it exactly (0.480) — the sign convention verified by symmetry.
- bgy sign: +0.02 pulls the bright cloud UP (mean y-from-top 0.368 vs 0.5 neutral).
- bgzoom: at 1.05/frame the outer zones went from dead 0.00 to ~38/255 (blow-out pushes the confined line's trails outward); at 1.003/frame with persist 0.92 trails die before traveling far (consistent with the fade math — equilibrium analysis, not a defect).
- What's New dialog: 7.12 "Background movement (AVS-style) + osc-rotations" first with CURRENT badge, drift guard silent. Help panel: bg* rows + examples all present.
- VLM on the live screenshot: horizontal oscillating waveform line at vertical center; large soft colorful trail masses around it; hue variation green at the outer left/right edges, yellow mid, red/pink at the center — the mirror-symmetric color design visibly realized; no defects; "60 FPS . 512 PTS" overlay normal.
- Console clean (0 errors/0 warnings); dev.log clean (59 successful requests, no compile errors). Footer: sticks to the viewport bottom on short pages (1280x800 Beat tab: docH 800, footer bottom 800) and pushes to the document end on long pages (375 px Presets tab: docH 1469, footer at doc end, no overlap); 375 px scrollWidth 375 = clientWidth (no horizontal overflow). Test-browser localStorage cleared afterwards.
Stage Summary:
- v7.12 shipped: scripts can move the whole picture — bgrot spins, bgx/bgy slide, bgzoom draws in / blows out — with the speed riding the music exactly the way the classic AVS plugins did it (beatage envelopes drive the rate, [beat] flips the spin on hard hits, persist keeps the fade slow so colors blend). The eleventh Zai-Magic preset "osc-rotations" demonstrates the full recipe: a stationary centered oscilloscope with mirror-symmetric color (left/right shift together, center holds its own hue) over a beat-accelerated, hard-hit-flipping rotating background.

Task ID: 40
Agent: main (Z.ai Code)
Task: v7.13 (user request): merge the two parallel development lines. The user supplied the v7.12 build ("updated script editor variables and the osc-rotations preset") as an encrypted zip on Google Drive (password: z.ai) and asked to compare it with this tree's "Upload to OVE-Directory" version (v7.11) and merge the improvements into one build.
MERGE ARCHAEOLOGY:
- The Drive zip (openvisengine.zip, 374 MB, AES-encrypted, compression type 99 — Python zipfile can't read it; pyzipper could) extracted to /home/z/drive-712/v712-full: APP_VERSION 7.12, worklog Tasks 37-39 (v7.10.1 spectrum fix, v7.11 wake lock/respectful-Demo/one-click-Save, v7.12 bg movement + osc-rotations). The partial ove-src12/ extraction from the earlier session verified identical (114/115 sha256; the one mismatch was a Drive-fetch artifact named "globals.css CSS").
- Divergence map via the zip's own .git: BOTH repos share commit d59d398 (tree 953bae5... — IDENTICAL hash on both sides, a true common ancestor at v7.10). After it: this tree shipped v7.11 = the OVE-Directory (directory-tab.tsx, upload-dialog.tsx, /api/ove-directory proxy, lib/ove-directory.ts); the zip tree shipped 7.10.1 + 7.11-wake-lock + 7.12. The ONLY overlapping files were script-tab.tsx, version.ts, release-notes.ts (+ demo-track binaries, identical on both sides).
Work Log:
- Git 3-way merge: zip repo fetched as remote v712, `git merge 1ea335a` — everything auto-merged (engine.ts applyBackground + bgrot/bgx/bgy/bgzoom, audio.ts SPEC_TOP_HZ 16 kHz cap, rust-agent/spectrum.rs mirror, embedded-presets.ts osc-rotations + EMBEDDED_SEED_VERSION 7.12, wake-lock.ts NEW, audio-source.ts + page.tsx manualChoice/respectful-Demo, presets-tab.tsx, share-dialogs.tsx, store.ts markManualChoice, help-panel.tsx bg* rows + sv span) except three conflicts.
- script-tab.tsx (hand-merged): both sides' state blocks kept side by side — ours' uploadOpen/canUpload (Upload to OVE-Directory, gated on ✔ Compiled OK + no runtime error) + theirs' pendingName/rename* states (one-click Save + "Give This Preset a Name"); toolbar now carries the dual Save (target save / one-click new) AND the Upload button; Hash⇢Script import sets pendingName + clears editTarget + markManualChoice; UploadToDirectoryDialog mounted. Verified byte-lossless: diff vs the v7.12 original removes ONLY comment lines (theirs' code 100% intact; ours' upload code added).
- version.ts + release-notes.ts (hand-merged into ONE timeline): NEW 7.13 entry ("one build, every feature") on top, then 7.12 (bg movement + osc-rotations), 7.11 (the OVE-Directory), 7.10.2 (the parallel line's wake-lock/respectful-Demo/one-click-Save release — RENUMBERED from its original 7.11 so the list reads monotonically; noted in the 7.13 text), 7.10.1 (spectrum edge), 7.10 and below untouched. APP_VERSION = '7.13'. Drift guard green.
- engine.ts / audio.ts / embedded-presets.ts / wake-lock.ts / help-panel.tsx / audio-source.ts verified BYTE-IDENTICAL to the validated v7.12 originals (cmp) — the parallel line's E2E-proven behavior carries over by construction.
ENVIRONMENT RECOVERY (sandbox quirks, not code):
- The merge swapped db/custom.db underneath the running server → Prisma "readonly database" (dead inode); fixed by restart.
- Turbopack's persistent cache panicked twice ("Failed to restore task data — corrupted database") after file replacements/kills; fixed with rm -rf .next + clean start.
- Directly-spawned background servers were reaped when the Bash session ended; the stable path is the system's own .zscripts/dev.sh (disowned bun run dev). Server now up: / 200, /api/presets 200, /api/ove-directory/* 200.
- EMBEDDED_SEED_VERSION gate fired on first hit (7.10 -> 7.12): DB re-seeded to 106 presets incl. osc-rotations (verified in SQLite: seed=7.12, count=106, osc-rotations=1).
E2E (agent-browser + pixel measurement + VLM, ALL PASS):
- Fresh boot: title "OVE -- Open Visualization Engine (v7.13)"; tree root/embedded 106 = Amp Picks 66 + Dynamics 9 + Envision 15 + Synth-C 5 + Zai-Magic 11; osc-rotations sorts last in Zai-Magic as designed.
- osc-rotations live on Demo Track (dblclick-load via the treeitem's inner button): footer "SRC: DEMO · Demo Track · FPS 59-60 · PTS 512 · BPM 139.9 locked · SCRIPT: osc-rotations". Two frames 1.2 s apart: 20% of sampled pixels changed (animating). Zone means: mid-band 69.7/255 (the scope) vs corners 3.3-13.8/255 — outer-zone content can ONLY be rotation-carried (the line is confined to the middle), i.e. applyBackground is rotating the picture in the merged build.
- VLM on the clean capture: (1) bright horizontal oscillating waveform at the vertical center ✓; (2) colorful smeared trail masses at corners/edges "consistent with a rotating background layer smearing trails around the stationary center waveform" ✓; (3) mirror-symmetric hues — yellow/gold at BOTH extremes, warm pink/magenta in the middle ✓; (4) no UI defects ✓.
- Script tab: Apply / Save / Script⇢Hash / Hash⇢Script / Upload to OVE-Directory / New / Help ALL present; with a compiling script both Save and Upload enabled (upload title carries the publish/fix-then-apply guidance); Upload dialog opens with the share-string description.
- One-click Save flow: New (template) -> strip the name header -> Save -> saved as "Empty Name" -> "Give This Preset a Name" dialog opened automatically -> renamed to "Merge Test v713" -> "Preset renamed" toast; test preset removed from localStorage afterwards.
- Directory tab: live listing via the proxy (1 script, sort controls, "Spectrum Bars · LINES · Average: 4.5 · 2 votes", Get button).
- Help panel: bgrot / bgx / bgy / bgzoom rows + example formulas all present.
- What's New dialog: 7.13 "One build, every feature" FIRST with CURRENT badge; 7.12, 7.10.2 in the merged timeline; drift guard silent.
- Responsive: 375x812 no horizontal overflow (scrollWidth 375 = clientWidth), footer pushed to document end (docH 1651); 1280x800 footer sticks to viewport bottom (800 = 800).
- Console: 0 errors, 0 warnings (wake lock degrades silently in headless — no navigator.wakeLock); dev.log 0 errors. Test-browser localStorage cleaned afterwards.
Stage Summary:
- v7.13 shipped: the parallel line is merged — the spectrum 16 kHz cap, the screen wake lock, the respectful Demo button, the one-click Save with auto-naming + rename dialog, the AVS-style background movement family (bgrot/bgx/bgy/bgzoom) and the eleventh Zai-Magic preset "osc-rotations" all run in the same build as the community OVE-Directory, with one clean version timeline (the parallel wake-lock release folded in as 7.10.2). Only three files needed hand-merging; every engine-side change is byte-identical to its validated original.

Task ID: 41
Agent: main (Z.ai Code)
Task: v7.13.1 (user report): in Zai-Magic "Beat Matrix" the rightmost vertical line of dots sat offset +1 upwards -- its bottom dot did not line up with the other columns, and its top dot spilled over onto the next section to the right. Diagnose, explain, fix.
DIAGNOSIS (why the right column was short and a phantom dot spilled):
- The engine's point position i spans 0..1 INCLUSIVE (classic AVS Superscope convention; engine.ts: i = k/(n-1)). Beat Matrix's grid math assumed exclusive i = k/n: col = floor(i * cols) sends the LAST point (i = 1 exactly) to col 16 -- one column past the 16-column wall (x = 0.986/aspect vs the wall edge 0.87/aspect) at row 0 (top), reading getspec(1.0); and column 15 was left with only 9 dots (rows 0-8, no bottom: its lowest dot sat at y = -0.62 while every other column reaches y = -0.81). Verified headlessly before the fix: col 15 = 9 dots rows 0-8, col 16 = 1 dot, bottom-row y spread col 14 vs 15 = 0.19 script units.
- Sweep of all other floor(i*M) uses in the library (62 occurrences): every other one is benign -- angular presets close their loop (bar = bars lands exactly on bar 0's angle: seg*tau/segs with seg = segs = 2pi = 0), Aurora Veil's phantom lands off-screen (x = 1.19 > 1), the megabuf particle presets (Bass Bloom, Supernova) draw their phantom slot at alpha 0 (uninitialized megabuf reads 0), Strobe Lattice/Tunnel Vision/Prism Chandelier hide one endpoint dot in rotating/mirrored chaos, and the converted Winamp classics rendered identically under original AVS (which also uses inclusive i) -- their authors saw and accepted exactly this behavior. Beat Matrix was the only hand-authored ALIGNED grid where the defect is obvious, so it was the only one that needed the fix.
Work Log:
- embedded-presets.ts Beat Matrix [point]: the grid mapping now goes through CELL CENTERS -- cell = i * (cols * rows - 1) + 0.5, col = floor(cell / rows), row = floor(cell - col * rows). Because i = k/(n-1) over n = cols*rows points, cell = k + 0.5 exactly (up to 1-ulp dust), so every floor() sits half a cell away from an integer boundary: the endpoint can never spill and float dust can never shuffle a dot into a neighboring cell. getspec/x/y/hue all read col/row as before (col 0..15, row 0..9; the last point now lands at col 15 row 9, the author's original intent under i = k/n). A 6-line comment in the script documents the why.
- EMBEDDED_SEED_VERSION 7.12 -> 7.13.1 (library re-seed replaces the DB's Beat Matrix; verified in SQLite: seed = 7.13.1, 106 presets, fixed content present, old mapping gone).
- version.ts 7.13.1 + history entry; release-notes.ts 7.13.1 "Beat Matrix grid fixed" (fixed, first-person voice).
HEADLESS VALIDATION (/home/z/tmp-validate/beatmatrix/validate.mts, ALL PASS — REAL parser/compiler, not a re-implementation):
- Regression guard: all 101 embedded presets still compile.
- The fixed Beat Matrix [point] program executed over all 160 points with the engine's exact i = k/(n-1): 160/160 cells occupied, ZERO duplicates, max col 15, max row 9, bottom-right cell (15,9) present, all 16 columns carry their full 10 rows, 16 distinct x symmetric about 0, 10 distinct y rows aligned.
BROWSER E2E (agent-browser + 8-frame max-brightness composite + VLM, ALL PASS):
- Fresh load: title "OVE -- Open Visualization Engine (v7.13.1)"; /api/presets re-seeded on the version gate; Beat Matrix loads (PTS 160 = 16x10) and plays on the demo track (FPS 57-60, BPM 133.5 locked).
- Pixel lattice analysis of an 8-frame composite (captures the treble moments when the high-band columns light): exactly 16 dot columns detected, even 38-39 px gaps; the BOTTOM dot of every one of the 16 columns sits at the SAME pixel row (y = 619, spread 0 px) -- the row-9 position that only exists under the fix (the old code's col-15 lowest dot sat ~80 px higher).
- Phantom-dot check: the old spill position (x ~722, top row) shows ZERO bright pixels across the composite (x 710-750 all 0); the only brightness right of the wall is column 15's own glow decaying monotonically to nothing by x = 710 (175 -> 45 -> 0 bright-pixel counts), i.e. additive-blend glow, not a dot. The fullscreen-overlay icon (x >= 757) is outside the lattice zone.
- VLM on the composite: "16 columns"; bottom row fully lit across all 16 columns at the same height (clean straight bottom edge); no stray dot right of the rightmost column; no alignment defects.
- What's New dialog: 7.13.1 "Beat Matrix grid fixed" first with CURRENT badge; drift guard silent (0 console errors / 0 warnings across the session); dev.log clean (200s only). Test-browser localStorage cleared afterwards.
Stage Summary:
- v7.13.1 shipped: Beat Matrix's wall is whole -- every column carries its full 10 dots, the bottom edge is straight across all 16 columns, and the phantom dot that spilled past the right edge is gone. The fix lives in the preset's grid math (cell-center mapping, immune to the inclusive-endpoint and float dust alike); the engine's AVS-correct i convention is untouched, and the library re-seed delivers the fixed preset to every visitor.

Task ID: 42
Agent: main (Z.ai Code)
Task: v7.14 (user request, preset-revamp session 2): rework "Arctic Rainbow" (Amp Picks, S_KuPeRS stand-in). The old auto-generated version was plain white columns of rain dots sweeping upward. Requested: keep upward motion but slower, then the drops "turn left and right" and fall back down like water sprayed skyward; drop COUNT driven by music intensity (silence = no drops, loud = many); each drop its own RGB color that shifts to the bass hit; a small blur/RGB tail behind each dot ONLY once it starts falling (no blur while rising).
DESIGN (stateless projectile physics, no per-particle memory needed):
- Each of up to 120 droplets is a deterministic parabola: own apex height 1.26..1.88 (apex lands y 0.20..0.82, upper half of screen), own flight time 1.9..3.4 s (rise 0.95..1.7 s -- "a bit more slowly" than the old rain), phase-staggered clock (period P = tf*1.18). y(u) = -1.06 + 4*h*u*(1-u), x(u) = x0 + drift*u + arch*u*u -- drift and arch re-rolled from the cycle index every splash, so each flight arcs a different direction and distance (the "turn left and right"). Dead window a > 1.15*tf lets drops slide off the bottom edge (no pop at wrap; the whole block skips once fully off-screen).
- Music gating in [frame]: volish = min(1, max(vol_att, bass_att*0.9)*1.25), want = clamp((volish-0.06)/0.5, 0, 1), smoothed acts with fast attack 6/s / slow release 1.2/s, actn = floor(acts*drops). Silence (vol_att decays to 0 on idle) -> actn 0 -> zero drops; loud demo track -> 110+ heads; moderate -> ~48.
- Per-drop hue: hue0 = rand(d-seed); every detected beat (env.beats) advances it by a per-drop hshift 0.09..0.26 -- 86 distinct shift amounts across the spray; plus a subtle 0.008/sample gradient along each tail. hsvr/hsvg/hsvb at full saturation; brightness rides vol_att with an exp(-beatage*7) bass flash.
- Falling-only tail, drawn (not smeared): mode lines, persist 0.12 (crisp rise, no ghost). Each drop owns 14 consecutive point slots: slot 0 separator (breaks the pen between drops), slot 1 head, slots 2..13 trail samples at 0.014..0.44 s back along the same parabola. While rising (vy > 0) only head + slot 2 (a ~1-frame shadow, so the head renders as a dot in lines mode) draw; tail gate tgate = smoothstep(0, 0.35, -vy/vy0) fades the 12-sample tapered polyline in exactly as the arch turns downward. Slot map through cell centers (q = i*(n-1)+0.5 -- the v7.13.1 lesson), bijective 1680 -> (120 drops x 14 slots).
- Headless validator iterations fixed two artifacts in the VALIDATOR itself (flight-window spanning splash boundaries; tail-alpha threshold 0.05 above the legitimate fade-in value 0.0225) -- the script needed no changes.
Work Log:
- embedded-presets.ts: Arctic Rainbow entry replaced (new description documenting the revamp, keeps S_KuPeRS credit + originalFile + approx badge); EMBEDDED_SEED_VERSION 7.13.1 -> 7.14; header changelog note added.
- version.ts: APP_VERSION 7.14 + full history entry. release-notes.ts: 7.14 "Arctic Rainbow re-sprayed" (improved, first-person, -- not em-dash).
HEADLESS VALIDATION (/home/z/tmp-validate/arctic/validate.mts, REAL parser/compiler, 28/28 PASS):
- Regression: all 106 presets still compile. n = 1680; slot bijection 1680 unique (d, slot), d<=119, slot<=13, every block starts with its skipped separator.
- Gating: 5 s of silence -> 0 drawn points; loud -> 110 airborne heads; moderate volume -> 48. All drawn |x| <= 1.05, positions finite, colors clamped 0..1.
- Physics: 65 tracked flights, every one rises monotonically to apex then falls; apex heights match the per-drop parabola to max err 0.0000; 28 flights visibly reverse lateral direction (arch).
- Tails: 12,422 rising-drop frames with ZERO tail slots drawn; 14,579 falling-drop frames with monotonically tapering alphas and a full-alpha head.
- Hues: 112/112 airborne drops advanced hue on a beat, 86 distinct per-drop deltas, RGB spreads > 0.4 across the spray. Rise >= 0.95 s to apex for all 120 drops.
BROWSER E2E (agent-browser + VLM, ALL PASS):
- Fresh boot: title "OVE -- Open Visualization Engine (v7.14)"; version gate re-seeded the library (observed in dev.log: deleteMany + 106 inserts + seed upsert); tree 106 presets intact.
- Arctic Rainbow dblclick-loaded from Amp Picks, demo track playing: footer "SRC: DEMO · Demo Track 1 · FPS 51-58 · PTS: 1680 · BPM: 132.5 locked · SCRIPT: Arctic Rainbow"; HUD and footer both read 1680 PTS (VLM had misread the tiny HUD text as 1080).
- VLM on two action captures: dozens of airborne droplets; clear PARABOLIC ARCS (water-spray shape); full rainbow palette (red/orange/yellow/green/cyan/blue/magenta); comet-like streaks -- bright head with a fading, CURVED tail following the trajectory; no UI defects.
- Stop -> SRC: IDLE, BPM: -- (tracker standby); VLM on the silent capture: canvas "essentially pure black -- no colored dots, droplets or streaks" outside the re-appeared audio-source panel. (A naive pixel-strip scan was confounded by that centered panel overlay; crop + VLM resolved it.)
- Script tab: editor carries the new 3457-char v7.14 script (water spray / drops = 120 / tgate all present). What's New dialog: 7.14 "Arctic Rainbow re-sprayed" first with CURRENT badge.
- Console 0 errors / 0 warnings; dev.log clean this session (only ancient EADDRINUSE lines from a pre-session stale start). Responsive: 375x812 no horizontal overflow (footer pushed, docH 3051); 1280x800 footer sticks to viewport bottom (docH 800 = innerH 800).
Stage Summary:
- v7.14 shipped: Arctic Rainbow is now a music-driven water spray -- slow parabolic rises, left/right arching falls, drop count tracking the music's intensity (dry silence), per-drop bass-hit hue shifts, and tapered RGB tails that appear only on the way down. All behavior is stateless script math (deterministic rand-seeded parabolas), so it is fully deterministic and reproducible; the library re-seed delivers it to every visitor, and the old white-rain version is gone.
